It's the EA playbook: take popular series, buy the studio out, the game quality degrades, sales will fall, EA will close the studio they bought.

Codies still make the game mate
2017 - Broken safety car entire game and slipstream didn’t exist online if someone left
2018 - online desync was hilariously bad for the first few months of release and tyre temps were insane
2019 - Actually decent game, some weird handling issues but meh
2020 - 2019 but better at everything despite removing some classic cars
2021 - Basically recycled 2020, new co-op career was broken for months. All classic cars and alternate tracks gone
22 - First EA game, handling was super difficult which I personally liked but many didn’t, focussed on the wrong things such as F1 Life
23 - Basically 22 handling but traction was 10 times easier and slightly more overall grip, red flags were broken the entire game
      24 - lmao
Calling 2015 a great game is just straight banter.

Ive seen this with every EA franchise they’ve bought:
They force developers to prioritize gimmicks (such as f1 world, supercars, story mode, etc).
Take out old features and readd them as “new” content.
Ignore player base feedback, and release yearly games with countless/familiar bugs and reused assets.
EA is nothing but a bunch of parasites and kill every franchise and developers they buy out. They know you’ll buy it. Especially content creators dedicated to their games. Yall just getting straight abused at this point. Golden era is dead and this is what is left: a wasteland.
They don’t give a flying fuck about the art of gaming. They just want your money. Respect yourselves and the money you earn.

The most frustrating part of their newer features like F1 Life and F1 World is how much development time was spent towards an utterly pointless cause. If they spent that same time working on things people actually cared about like Career, Online, Handling, etc then we wouldn't have these lack luster games. Games pre 22 almost never had features as pointless as they do now. The only thing saving these games right now is the popularity of the sport and the licenses, I guarantee if they didn't have the licence or there was a rival game with it they wouldn't be getting nearly the sales they do with the lack of improvements since 2021. A real shame considering every game between 2015 and 2020 came with noticeable improvement in quality.

Hi. So way back between 2012 to 2017 I was in QA for Codemasters, mainly focusing on the front end experience and pad functionality. Having kept in touch with a lot of the people there it appears that the QA team has dramatically reduced down in terms of headcount and the testing process from a full end to end point of view has been replaced by getting in influencers to “test”. Obviously these people are not trained QAs and would make sense when you mention bugs are not being fully resolved. For me it sounds like influencers are coming in to test the functionality of an unfinished product which is a massive no no and there feedback is then being considered but not necessarily actioned for whatever reason during the development cycle.

Good video, for me Multiplayer needs a lot of work.
    - Massive down time between casual races (loading screens).
    - No option to rent a server with selected rules & track roster to reduce lag against drivers on other side of the world.
    - If we had rented dedicated servers to play on we could return to those servers for something like a level up system? kind of liked ranked but better
    - Host can't even kick more than 1 person at a time if dirty drivers join.
    - Host has to rely on everyone else to ready up to even start the race even if it's an event like scheduled league racing.
    - If you miss out by seconds in joining a lobby loading screen you miss out on the race and have to sit there doing nothing, maybe let them choose between spectating or practicing a track or start them from the pitlane?
    - Very boring damage model and nothing happens to the barrier when you hit it. (Even a downgrade from 2021 damage model)
    - Lack of customization in general, can't make fun rules to race with or change car physics for challenges.
    - We should be able to start a online lobby by ourselves (not need 2 people) so we can do e.g. league racing practice.
These are just some things I've thought of from the top of my head and there's plenty more I've missed

I noticed that if your car gets hit from behind you get a warning for collision with player "X". Why am I getting a warning for collision when the driver behind hit me??. It's the same dumb penalty system from F1 2020. Prolly because they're using the same engine.
None of the things you mentioned will make it to the game unless some changes are made to the engine. It needs a complete overhaul. The game has become like those recycled Madden and FIFA games. Haven't bought a F1 game since F1 2021.

    - F1 world

This is why everyone hates EA. Ever since Andrew Wilson took over, their focus has never been about making an experience that is great for gamers; it has been about how to squeeze as much money out of their players. They can't make more money with a Career mode, or Franchise Mode (If you play Madden, FIFA/FC or NHL). So what do they do? They corner the market by signing an exclusive deal with the league that everyone loves, and then they create a gimmick that they think will get them more money after you purchase the base game. Ever since they bought the license to make F1 games, they have been trying to figure out a way to implement a Ultimate Team style mode for F1 to rake in the money just like they do with Madden, FC, and NHL. They don't care about Career mode or making the AI better. Oh heck no. This is what EA does until the majority of players wake up and stop buying their crap.

    • @SdoubleA
      @SdoubleA 2 місяці тому +1

The only problem is that their UT model is near impossible with racing games. Racing in itself is supposed to be fair grounds and merit based. Why would anyone bother racing each other with worse cars? The straight line difference alone is enough to turn people off and make them see the game mode as rigged.
And it's also optimised for the wheel, rather than the pad. F1 games aren't the same as FIFA, where pad players twiddle thumbs with next to no effort and get results. Pad playing F1 is a massive handicap and a chore to learn and it's why the casual player base never sticks around much.

Theres clearly no love or interest from EA theyre doing what every AAA developer does by making "BIG NEW FEATURE" to sell the game and leaving it in a broken state on launch, firing/laying off development teams for underdelivering when theyre crunching to meet rediculous turnaround times, then having to train new teams only to repeat the cycle. The worst thing to come out of the covid pandemic was the level of corporate greed from upper management positions and CEOs of large companies started growing exponentially year on year, and when people stopped having excess money to spend on things they didnt need, the people in power blamed it on the workers for not delivering a good enough product.

Speaking as a competitive player this is the first F1 game I haven’t purchased since 2015 purely because of the handling model. It’s a complete joke it’s still as bad as it is which makes me believe the guy that replaced Greco needs replacing himself.

Don't worry, the decline will continue until they don't make enough money with it in their opinion. Then they either actually make a good game or just stop doing F1 games, it is how it works. And not playing and more importantly not buying the next game until something significantly changes is the only language they understand. Forget feedback and bug reports and all that. They only understand money. As long as enough people give it to them, they won't care. Stop throwing money at this series for christ.

Back in the day what gave you the most money was creating the best possible game but that does not do it anymore. It is important to understand this. If they tried to actually make the best game possible (applies to other developers as well btw) we would have insanely great games nowadays, much better than the ones we currently call the best game out there today.

They can only work with what they are given though and it appears nowadays that is not enough - probably talking about time most importantly. And I bet there are marketing analysis and all that fun stuff (which are not actually fun) that prevent the approach to have a base game and improve on that year after year until you get the best product possible - because that is not the shareholders goal ultimately, so the devs have their hands tied and that will likely never change. It literally cannot change when you have to press out a game yearly. I mean look at FIFA... how's that model supposed to work better in any shape or form for F1 games?

Personally, I'm with many of the comments below that EA shouldn't have the license and another dev should be given the rights to it. The game for console players in my opinion is so boring after the first season and now that PC players have less mods to play with, they're seeing the lack of design and longevity the core game actually offers. I know how great this game COULD be, after how long it's been around - how good it SHOULD be but I do not believe that Codemasters or EA have any idea what people playing this game actually want. The sad thing is, what we generally want isn't even outlandish or overly difficult to implement because they are largely little tweaks and refinements. Too many features have been lost that were good, too many pointless features added to show off irrelevant brand collaborations rather than improving playability or enjoyment.
The bugs that have persisted year after year are mind-numbing. I have gone from someone who would pre-order the new game the day it was announced to not even bothering with this years at all and only getting 2023 when it was 90% off just to see if it was an improvement. I don't trust the company is willing or able to deliver anything I'd consider worthwhile anymore and the game that I once loved is just a distant memory.

I went back to f1 23 and just starting a new career mode. F1 24 is just not fun. Ai just follow each other, lack of alternative tyre strategies The way the cars handles and just pretends kerbs don't exist on 24 really kills any sense of reward when your trying to put a good lap together. On 23 when u put a good lap in u feel like u did that and not the systems on the handling manipulating the car
These things are more apparent when you go back to f1 23 and realise how much better it is. I did back to back races at imola on 23 and 24 and 24 had no battles, a huge train. On 23 we had ai being aggressive and overtaking as soon as they had a chance. The battles on 23 are so so fun and bring the race alive.
If you did a blind test on these 2 games im sure most if not all will say 23 is the newer game and 24 is the older one. Which makes u question what are u paying the money for. Being a big f1 fan I will still buy f1 25 and that's the fans ea like to take advantage of. The fans who will buy the game no matter what, same problem with fifa

The handling always felt like I was constantly skating around and I never felt comfortable. I eventually had to put flashback on because I got so frustrated never understanding why my car was spinning out even though I was focusing on my throttle control.
Obviously you can say skill issue for me but it just never felt good to me. I play sports games usually for career mode and it’s just not good tbh. I didn’t bother picking up 24 this year I might pick it up when it hits under $30 bucks.

Preface this with saying I'm still on F1 23, but the one thing that I see the most with the lack of polish is the subtitles. Ever since they bought in the female co-commentator, the subtitles don't match what's being said. Crofty will ask her something, but the subtitles will be asking Anthony a completely different question. If they can't be bothered fixing something as small and simple as that, what hope for anything bigger?
Nevermind that the game menus are a confusing mess, I don't do single races anymore because they've made it so damn hard to. I cannot navigate nor understand what hoops the game wants me to do. Remember when you could just choose 'Single Race' and in one game at least, even decide the grid order so a Minardi was on pole? That was fun! Let me take my MyTeam car into a single race, and just make that a simple thing to do.
People want the ultimate F1 experience, and that's not buying wardrobes, or driving supercars. It's F1. People want F1 cars and tracks, modern and historic. Look at what modders bring to iRacing, the demand is there, but no-one official wants to make that.
Games are supposed to be fun and limited only by your imagination, and I don't see why racing games should be any different. Give us historic tracks and let us put 2024 cars on them if we want! Heck, give us world renowned circuits, that F1 would never go to, like Le Mans or Daytona! Let us choose our dream season of historic and crazy circuits. Make racing games fun again, dammit!
Sorry for the rant, but this has been building for a while.

Alex thank you so much for being another creator using your platform to thoughtfully articulate this franchise's inadequacies. I am a league racer on this game of several years, and a Texan who like many Americans absolutely fell in love with Formula 1 in recent years (even though I'd like to think I was a bit ahead of the curve lol.) Our league was at one point up to SEVEN divisions with full grids of full time drivers and several reserves in every division showing up every single Thursday night to compete against each other on this game. Now it's down to 2 with 15 drivers each race if we're lucky, almost exclusively because of how quickly this game has fallen off. Our lobbies are almost always glitched out every single week with desyncs being a common occurrence even though we have every player pass an internet speed test. Every single week. Not to mention the lack of customizable liveries, racing suits, helmets.. it's like the game is made by some sort of AI developer with massive adhd and zero awareness of what the actual Formula 1 fans and long term players in this franchise want. IMO the writing was on the wall the minute classic cars were stripped. What a massive "fuck you" to anyone who cares about the rich history of this sport or even casual players who want a challenging extra game mode.
This is the official game franchise for, quite literally, the most technologically advanced sport on our planet and it feel's like a step or two above a cheap mobile game. It's fucking sad, honestly. The Formula 1 game, like the teams and drivers, should be an *exceptional* product every single year. We want detail, we want great craftsmanship, we want immersion, we want more. We want an experience with this game. Instead we get mediocrity and a complete lack of respect for our time, resources, and energy from a giant company who seems to just be a shell of what it once was even if the wallets of their executives don't reflect it. I am not exaggerating when I say every time I play this game there is at least always one moment where I wonder if the people who make this game actually despise me. And the wild thing is I know without a doubt a staggering number of other players feel the same.
Keep up the honest critique and we will continue to support you. The world needs a great Formula 1 game made by people who actually give a fuck.

You say it's not EA. As a adamant FIFA player. It is defo EA. They do not care about these smaller bugs like the weather display for example. They use the same code every year this is why you get recurring bugs like the formation lap one or the Equal performance one. I once saw a reddit post from a supposed EA employee who said they space their bugs out into 4 categories
    1. Game-breaking highest priority
    2. quite annoying and costs the company money (I.E. pitcoin purchase glitches or the equal performance bug, forcing players OFF the game meaning they wont spend money while in there)
    3. quite annoying and doesn't cost the company money (i. E. the weather glitch, yes its annoying but it doesn't make you play the game less probably)
    4. minor visual bugs etc
F1 will fall under the same curse as FIFA where itll deteriorate every year until either they close the studio or someone finds a loophole to create a competitor in the F1 games. Only then will we potentially see changes for the better. I absolutely hate that this is what it became too.

Me and my mate have played two-player career weekly, almost without fail, since F1 22. We both hop online every tuesday and do the next race on the calendar. It's fun. With F1 22 & 23, we would both play independently during the week in our single player career, time trial, whatever, and that would sort of keep us sharp and act as practice for when we raced. It's been a blast. But 24 is the first time that we both admitted last week that we haven't actually been playing outside of our two-player career this year. I thought it was just me but it turned out he's done the exact same. We don't want to stop our two-player career, but we absolutely wish there was another option than just F1 to do this in. I think if it wasn't for us both genuinely just having fun playing the game with each other, we would have both stopped playing a while ago. I just don't like the feeling of this year's game (for context, we're not hardcore sim racers, just regular controller guys having a good time taking our seasons semi-serious without going overboard), and it's sad. What makes it worse is that each time we play, we both know there is a chance on any given Tuesday that the game will just break, sometimes completely screwing up several hours into our race weekend session and we've had to literally skip races before because they've become broken and unfinishable. For whatever reason, if a race breaks for us once, it's almost guaranteed to break the same way again on a retry, even if we come back another day. Like it's baked into the scripting of that race somehow.

Only thing that might really help is buying a buttkicker to feel the rear. I have it under my seat and increased sensitivity which helps. Maybe this years game was focused on how hard they really are to drive?

Diminishing returns that you get with annual releases. Each yearly purchase of a full price game is essentially a software update. Same game new lick of paint.
    F1 manager has better graphics.
Features added then taken away e.g. classic cars.

also the dev teams are split between the years, one team does one year while the other team works on the other
that tied with their spaghetti code is why we keep seeing bugs swing back around because they don't know how to manage their source control and publishing, its basic fundamental software engineering stuff that they fail at
it's also why we end up with braking point every other year
only expect this to get far worse as the business side tries to cut corners by putting in more AI based dev processes to save money
i've got very low hope for 25 because its the 23 / 21 team doing it

Yep it's what happened with fifa, more and more bugs each year because the devs who made the original game it's based from (fifa 17) don't work there anymore and they don't even understand the game themselves. And live updates always come with random glitches because of it

I am gonna start with, I DO apreciate this vid.😂
Anyway, here are my points of details they should do for next year atleast!
    1. Bring back the handling of F1 23 in the slow corners except for the rear locking meta.
    2. Keep the new ERS management system but bring back the deployment/recharge features the previous f1 games had.
    3. Get rid of F1 World thus you have more time to upgrade the other game modes.
    4. Listen to the community more often! But that is probs everyones point as well😂

I love how the poll result from 9 years ago still pretty much exactly agrees with what you said today.
And you're absolutely right. I've been playing the F1 games since 2015 (even though I played F1 2012 in 2015, don't ask) and have spend thousands of hours over the years. Since then I pretty much bought the game every year, sometimes even getting the premium editions in pre-order. Yet, I haven't bought the last three games...

I can't help but draw parrallel with the Forza situation. Both tried to go for "headline features" but due to lack of focus (probably derived from time and ressources constrains) couldn't get the fundamentals right. Yes, I like added features that give some spice, but the core experience done right is what makes people go back and play again. Else, the game looks like a Potemkine village with a lot of flash but little substance.
I'd take Gran Turismo rather than Forza because even with half the cars, no "builders cup", no car-RPG system, it still does the fundamentals better, it feels polished and you feel like you're immersed in a car with lots of coherent details made by passionnate people. I'd have more fun playing ACC than F1 even without a career mode or "F1 World" because once again, the fundamentals of driving and immersion are done better. Doesn't need to be exactly "more realistic" (hence my GT, hardly a full-sim, example), it just need to be a more cohesive experience.

Honestly as a not only a F1 fan as a racing fan in general seeing this downfall of most racing games is sad EA bought Codemasters and they destroyed all their hard work they did codies were goated the Dirt rally series the old ones collling mcrae the F1 2012 F1 2013 F1 2018 F1 2020 all those games are goated in they own respective way bcs codemasters made them for the fans for the experience of the fans it was not just a cash grab like it is right now with EA they are doing the same with Need for Speed series the only good NFS game they made in the last 10 years in my opinion is Heat and it had flaws before that most of the other NFS games were utterly terrible they stopped making games for the sake of fans it's all just a fking cash grab and that is sad in the day where the technology is at it's peak where racing games should be thriving they are falling off big time

The issue with the handling is that ea or Codies doesn’t know how a balanced handling works or can’t make one a f1 car has arguably the most downforce from any racing car so it’s unbelievable to me that the car doesn’t turn in at all or straight up understeer from entry to exit iracing brings out the merc from 21 and 22 and I instantly see that the car turns in and response Like what a f1 car should do …. And imo what’s a complete no go is changing the handling 3 times and also tweaking the assist . Using assist should never help no assist user gaining lap time or be able to get close to there no assist time … assist should punish a player 0.7 at least casual players I believe wouldn’t be annoyed but you seriously can’t cry about it if you compete in league racing with assist against no assist users and they smash you in quali by 0.7 and in the race best you by 30sec … its seriously time we get the changes we want simple this is f1 and not Ea Fc 24 you need to put effort in to make better sells and more money and not add pitcoins add a Store with random stuff because people don’t care if the handling is good and there are nearly no bugs (like f1 2018) the game is fine and the sells are good win/win situation

  • @captaincajun3439

This is what EA does. They take good games and suck them dry. Sims 4 & Madden are prime examples. EA ignores their fan base and pumps out new features, While ignoring bugs and gameplay issues with the game. This isn't a new thing. EA does this because they know the fanbase will keep buying the game regardless. While It's the same with sims 4. They keep releasing expansion packs and other DLC, but never fix the bugs. The game is so broken that it is impossible to fix now. With Madden it is the same game each year just reskinned. F1 is experiencing the same thing.
Honestly, I don't see the F1 series dying out completely...It will suffer the same fate as Madden and other EA games. There will be just enough diehard fans that will keep buying the game to keep it alive. The fans wanting an F1 experience will keep it going. Unless F1 Manager gives EA enough competition there is really no motivation to make better games if they can keep money flowing without having to spend more money on making a better game.

F1 24 released way too early in the year, these games should be released no earlier than mid-June - just look at the AI issues, the handling model, the tire model (realistic to an extent, but still) and the ERS systems which the AI can't even use to their fullest.
F1 25 needs to be a big step forward for the series.

Unless there is some sort of massive rule or technical change, there is almost no reason to be putting out these yearly releases. Make them every 2 years with a discounted upgrade / patch / DLC in the off year to account for driver / team / livery changes. That way they can spend the time to make each full release new, FULLY COMPLETED and with unique modes / scenarios

Your next video should be about the pattern of even numbered F1 games being awful…and that ERS system needs reverting for the next game, it doesn’t even work like that IRL, that & the excessive understeer in the dirty air of other cars contribute to the worst F1 game since 2015 imo. i’ve gone back to playing 23 & will only come back to 24 for the new F2 cars in a few months & then bin it again.

They do have 2 different teams working on the odd and even games, but I don't think it's fair to say one is inferior to the other, especially as certain things don't have that split, like handling. Codemasters have always tended to over react every other year as well, it predates the 2 separate development teams

EA absolutely destroys anything good they touch. They should see this video and try to actually change instead of continuing on their ruinous course.
Make the handling as realistic as possible. Fix basic bugs. Stop adding stupid “features” to try to sell the game - and actually just make the core mechanics better.

I loved playing ranked as a change up from career, ranked has ruined the fun of this game for me, sit at a waiting screen for a lobby for a couple of mins at bronze and the start of silver but I got into the top tier silver level and suddenly it became impossible to find a lobby, so it meant I fell all the way down the table on points unless I spent hours on end waiting at loading screens then eventually playing a noob bronze lobby because apparently no one is playing at my level when theirs players gaining points above me ??? Then after one noob lobby race I’m back to sitting at screens telling me i can’t find a lobby, I miss pre ea f1 games so badly, and I’ve been playing since 2015
