    I have been building a 1980 k20 didn’t go as far down as you have . Your videos have helped me a lot and I have been purchasing ORD parts a little bit at a time because of these videos . Thanks .

      Glad they helped. ORD makes some good products. I would have used more but I have a limited budget for the build.

    Thanks for the informative video. Now I know how to install my brace.

      Just remember I have fixed my cracked frame from the inside. Most people do it from the outside.

    I like that brace. I think I'm going to get one for the '84 K10. I don't believe it's cracked yet.

      I am starting to think this truck was taken off-road a lot. I thought the underside damage was from the junk yard but not so sure now. I need to get one for the 70 too.

    very clean work! I'm glad you got that truck and are giving it a new life. I've noticed the outside wall of my frame flexes when you turn the wheels on my 2006 GMC Yukon. I was checking the suspension and had my boy turning the wheels and noticed that. It's a lot of stress turning when not moving.

      If I can make it through the restoration it will be cool. You would probably be surprised at what flexes while you go down the road. The frames are a lot better now but they still flex. I have seen the frames on our semi's and dump trucks flex on uneven ground.

    Is the brace really necessary if you weld in the plate on the frame, or is it just added support?

      @mossman381  Рік тому

      I talked to the guys at OffRoad Design and they say you still need the support, so it doesn't crack again.

      I have had so many black trucks you are going to have to be more specific.

    On the 70 I would suggest doing the plate. Even if you put it on the outside as intended I think it would look something like say an HD model. I mean you have the body mounts and other types of bracing on frames already. Some nice clean welds and a little paint and I think it would look just fine.

      I really don't think you need to plate the frame unless it has cracked. Once these braces are in place it's not going to move. These braces are heavy duty and probably overkill really. If you were really going to beat on the truck and install 35-38" tires, I can see plating the frame. I am not going to beat on the 70. I only have 33" tires on the 70 and plan to do the same on this 80.

      @@mossman381 You are probably right. Myself I would probably do it for piece of mind and that I would already be there pulling stuff apart anyway. You definitely got a couple of nice finds there bud.

      @@garyg4139 I am not going to take the 70 truck apart again for awhile. I am going to enjoy it for awhile then work on the body later. I can ask the guys at OffRoad Design if they recommend the plate if the frame isn't cracked.

      @garyg4139 Рік тому

      @@mossman381 Oh I understand not taking it apart again or if you don't have to. If your plan for the truck is for just cruising it around and not being a work truck at all I agree with you not doing it. For myself I have had to many of those should of moments with my truck. I am in a spot now actually. Do you know of any place to get replacement bump stop mounts? Not the rubber parts, I got the Super Springs like you did, but the steal frame part. I have an 04 2500 HD and didn't know how bad they were until I mounted my new to me 8'6" Western Pro Plus plow. At nearly 900 pounds with the mount it sags a bit in the front.

      @mossman381  Рік тому

      @@garyg4139 Not sure about the mounts. I can't even remember what they look like at the moment. They are bent that bad?
