I love Persona, but this game just feels super boring and lazy to me. If they had included every Persona game like the other Warriors spinoffs then I would have gotten it day 1 no question, but as it is I'll just wait for it to become dirt cheap first. Also, hopefully they announce Persona 6 this year, since it's the 25th anniversary of the series and Persona 5 came out 5 years ago at this point in Japan!
@@franjaff6919 I know there's more to the game, but at the end of the day all of the Warriors/Musou games are the exact same thing in different packages. Like, Dragon Quest Heroes II has stuff like an overworld that sets it apart from the other Musou games, but it's still just a Musou spinoff of Dragon Quest and nothing more. I just wish that rather than being like "we really wanted to continue the story of Persona 5... with a repetitive Musou spinoff game" they had instead been like "let's celebrate the entire Persona series in one big, fanservicey package" like most of the other Musou games do. The only reason I can think of for doing it this way is pure laziness/cheapness, since it means that they didn't have to make as many new assets for the game. Imagine if we had gotten something like Hyrule Warriors but for Persona... that would have been so awesome.
I love it when it's Kim episode especially when it's about Persona, Johnny next time let kim do the sign off 'Anyways guys till next time" you get to say it all the time. It would be cool to hear Kim say it when she comes on the show. #KimSenpai
I love the Persona series, enough that I played Persona 5 twice (the original release, then platinumed the Royal release), but you're 100% spot on about the dialogue. I found myself skipping a ton of dialogue in my Royal playthrough; it's not just that the conversations are padded, but they often just repeat the same conversations over... and over... and over. The phone / text message chains were the biggest offenders.
I think it's more of a factor of Persona 5 having worse dialogue than the other Persona games. When I replayed Persona 4 to 100% it I absolutely loved re-experiencing the story and every cutscene, but when I tried to 100% 5 I ended up skipping every cutscenes because the dialogue and characters are just not very interesting. I guarantee that if I went back to play Persona 2 or 3 that I'd love reading the dialogue again, but I'd still find 5's dialogue to be a slog.
@@Jordan3DS Yeah, you're probably right. I need to go back and replay Persona 4 Golden now that it's on Steam -- I haven't played it since it's initial release on Vita.
@@jstymie I would highly recommend trying out the PS2 version instead. A used copy is about the same price as Golden on Steam (or you could just buy it digitally on the PS3 store/emulate it), and it's superior to Golden in just about every single way. I think Golden got popular because it was the biggest game on Vita, so it's the only version of Persona 4 that a lot of people have played. The visuals were severely downgraded for Golden and they screwed up the pacing of the story among other things, Golden is just a port that prioritized shoving new things into the game without actually thinking of quality. Also, I highly recommend trying out the PS1 games sometime as well, Eternal Punishment especially is a masterpiece!
@@sabrakt For me it went 4, then 3, then Innocent Sin, then 5 all in early 2017, then 1 and Eternal Punishment in 2018, and yeah, I preferred every other game to 5 by the time I was finished with them all, lol. My three big problems with 5's story is that it doesn't go anywhere, the themes are very hamfisted compared to the previous games, and it rips off elements from every other Persona game but does them worse. Plus I just don't find the characters as memorable or engaging as any other Persona game, especially on a design level. Pretty much, yeah. It's the FFVII effect where there are better games in the series, but people overpraise the hell out of FFVII/P5 and ignore the other, superior games because it's the only game in the series they've played (although I would say that from a design/story standpoint, FFVII is less flawed than P5 is).
I just rewatched an old episode where you talked about skipping home from school to play video games. I don’t know why, but it’s one of my favorite episodes that you did when reminiscing about your past. I tried looking for it in your playlist, but couldn’t find it. I had to go scrolling down every video you had made to find it. Couldn’t believe that that video was 9 years old! I started watching your channel about 6 years ago. Your channel helped inspire me to get back into retro gaming and collecting. I hope sometime you do a Xenogears gaming nostalgia video. Did you know that the guy that composed Chrono Trigger’s soundtrack also did Xenogears’ soundtrack? Also hope you like the Baten Kaitos games for the Game Cube and could do a video on those. Main reason for commenting on here though is that I hope someday you could catalog your episodes by season in the playlist tab. Your channel is over 10 years old, and should be catalogued by season in order for newer viewers and past viewers to check out the older footage, instead of having to scroll down on the videos tab fir a few minutes. Keep up the good work. Love your channel.😎👍
The characters talking... well, I mean, the Persona games are basically Visual Novels with JRPG gameplay in-between. The spinoff games are no exception (dancing, arena, etc..) in that they're still VNs.
Always look forward to seeing your guys' thoughts and impressions, this is definitley one of my favorite UA-cam channels! Persona is a great series, I'm really excited for Strikers! Also, this is a bit random but I think it would be so cool if the Color Scheme for Persona 6 is Purple! I'm really curious about what kind of themes it will deal with and what the story will be like!
Y'all look so amazing and happy. All the best to y'all. I still watch the FFXI episode like every week lol. You should do more backstories like that too and love seeing Kim. Radiant smile and just affable.
I know this has nothing to do with this video, but I watched your FF XI Vid last night and was like wow I can’t believe I missed out on that game. I know you had a crazy addiction to it, but even with that said I could tell you had a lot of fun. I never got into the MMORPG games, but I’m trying out 14 now and I just have no friends that are into those games so it’s a little weird for me so far. Anyway though thanks for your videos I watch religiously, but don’t always comment. An Phantasy Star is the best!
Im working my way through Ys IX and loving the action combat, P5 Strikers seems to have a similar combat style, I'll definately be picking up Strikers. Feb has turned out to be a great month for games.
Keep in mind, Musou games like Persona 5 Strikers are nowhere near the level of depth of a game like Ys IX. Musou games are known for being pretty mindless and repetitive, and people pretty much just play them for the fanservice. You essentially just get dropped into a little area where you have to capture outposts by killing minibosses, then repeating that over and over and over until the game ends. Some games bring something fun and unique to the table (like Dragon Quest Heroes II having an overworld to explore), but other than that Musou games are pretty much "if you've played one, then you've played them all".
When this game was announced I was so happy because I have always wanted to play something in the persona/SMT where the combat was in real time and not turn based. That said my only disappointment was they removed the social links and days mechanics. Nonetheless I hope this becomes its own spin-off series. Its really impressive how they fused the dynasty warriors and persona essence and make it feel justified and not just because.
I love trails of cold steel but the same thing happens in those games...the dialogue goes on and on sometimes. I have to be in the mood to be able to deal with it alot of times.
Ys 9: Monstrum Nox first (phenomenal so far!), a few weeks later Persona 5 Strikers and at the end of January Bravely Default 2...what a month! Even one of those games would be enough for me and now I have like three of them at once. And PlayStation 5 version of Yakuza 7 early in March...it hurts my wallet :D
I bought the Japanese version back when I heard they weren’t releasing it over here. Got through the first boss and couldn’t stand not knowing what everyone was saying and just stopped. Now I can’t wait to get my preorder from GameStop.. oh yeah big stonks haha.
Its a great game I imported the Japanese version of this and it surprised me I hope that the next Musou cross over is Xenoblade Warriors that has tons of potential.
Can anyone confirm if you can choose Japanese audio with English subtitles on the PS4 disc version of the Western release of Strikers? Although the English VA was decent in P5, I always thought the Japanese VA had the edge, especially Morgana's voice. "Yoesh"
Anyone else noticing that Johnny and Kim look like twins in this video, from the glasses, to the bomber jackets, to the game shirts? I’ve heard that can happen when you’re in love and been married awhile; it must be the ultimate testament of love?
I personally never had a problem with long dialogues between characters mainly because I was too captivated with their interactions. I think it is also the fact that I like VNs xD
Meh it was never padded in my mind. I get not expecting it in this game over the normal one but long dialogue is the norm, its charm and why we connect well with the characters.
But that the charm of p5 and I didn't feel any drag Because I love the Characters honestly persona is all about the characters if u don't like the characters then don't play
personally I skipped through a lot of the small talk sections, I watched the nice cutscenes though after finishing a palace and only really paid attention when doing the social links.
@@dustingonzalez8080 Currently playing through P4G, I prefer P5R but I can understand the appeal of P4G. The Investigation team really feels like friends and their dynamic is amazing. Also Kanji almost always makes me laugh.
Dragon Quest Heroes, specifically Dragon Quest Heroes II, since it's the better of the two games. It has the benefit of actually representing the entire Dragon Quest series rather than just one game, and it does a lot of unique things with the Musou framework like including an overworld.
It hurts the heart if you got really attached to, or play it too soon after P5/P5R its like your friends socials dropped back to a 2star in just a few months lol
I have P5 but I didn’t beat it. I did enjoy it though. You guys made me want to revisit it and maybe I will and then go to strikers. You are both awesome!!! 😁
This will be fun. Glad to return to the world of P5. Only downside is the Royal characters not being there. Glad to see all the rpg elements and the style of that game being here for Strikers.
I'm glad they're not there, honestly, it's gotten annoying how Atlus forces in new characters to all of their ports that distract from the main game/story and muck up the pacing.
Have you or Kim ever tried the Dragon Quest Heroes games? How about the new Age of Calamity game? Musou games are a guilty pleasure for me when I need something to just pick up and play for a bit. Lately there have been some great ones. Age of Calamity is a treat to me.
OK, I'm going to trust you guys because you love Persona as much as I do. But I've never been able to get into a Warriors game and ALWAYS quit after getting bored with it. It sounds like there might be enough besides mindless hack n' slash to potentially make it interesting.
Perhaps, but if the game is being made for the PS5 then it might be too much for the Switch to run. Plus I doubt that the Xbox consumerbase would touch anything Persona related with a 10 foot pole, have you seen how they react anytime a Japanese game gets shown off during an Xbox direct?
@@finallyjeremy8217 That's the problem, though, that people associate any game from Japan as a "anime weeb" game, which turns them away from most games from Japan. Some games from Japan are "weeaboo" games, sure, but they're the minority, and as long as people have that prejudice against all Japanese games the Xbox will struggle to sell games like that. It all comes down to sales numbers, and if Xbox fans buy 30 million copies of Call of Duty 34 and 50,000 copies of any given anime game then Japanese developers will be less likely to put those kinds of games on the system.
@@Jordan3DS There's nothing wrong with the name association of anime weeb games. They're great games nonetheless. Like I said, I play them often on Xbox. My original comment was about that Sega, who now owns Atlus, have been saying that they want to make more of their games to be on multiple platformers instead of being exclusive to just one. We are seeing that already with Yakuza 0 and 1-5 already being on Xbox after being exclusive to PlayStation for years.
@@finallyjeremy8217 "Anime weeb games" implies that the games are for the kinds of people who own body pillows and love sexual fanservice, which isn't the case at all with a lot of Japanese games. Like, when I think of weeaboo games I think of stuff like Senran Kagura or Gal Gun or stuff like that, but a lot of western gamers will lump games such as those in with games like Persona or Ys and look down on all Japanese made games because of that, which is why we've gotten to the point where some people see an "anime" art style and scream "ANIME WEEABOO TRASH, FUCK THIS GAME!!!", regardless of what the game is actually like. Not that I'm saying that you're like that of course, but it's a distinct prejudice that's arisen among westerners in recent years. Yeah, it is cool to see Yakuza come to a wider audience, I think its a series that would appeal to the Xbox crowd more than most other Japanese games thanks to its more realistic art style and real world settings. Despite being owned by Sega, though, Atlus is still its own company, so we'll see if that Sega strategy actually carries over to Atlus or not. It would be nice to see, say, a Persona 3 Remake on Switch, or a port of Persona 1 and 2 PS1 on Steam.
Persona 5 was my first of the series (still chipping away at it). You just have to realize that sometimes, if you have only 1-2 hours to play, all you are going to do is read text and click through for your whole session.
This game looks so great. I'm pretty new to Persona 5- I played the Royal version when it came out, and I just want to get Strikers ASAP. I love Musou, and Persona 5, perfect combo for me.
@@DaakkuuYRS Huh, what'd you prefer about 5? Personally, I found 5 to be the weakest game in the Persona series. It's still great, but most of the plotlines are ripped off directly from the other Persona games, it has the weakest cast in the series, some of the dungeons and Mementos are horrible, the ending feels rushed beyond belief, the social links were handled poorly, and the two twists in the game are so obvious that they can be guessed from the beginning of the game. It feels like a case where people love it because it puts style so far over substance, and most of its fanbase has never played another Persona game. I feel like I could write an essay on how well Persona 4 handles its plot, themes, characters, and villain, whereas 5 feels very generically black and white with hamfisted themes and poor villains.
@@Jordan3DSI prefered mostly the dugeons in P5. In 4 they are radnomized if I recall right. In 5 they have more puzzles which is nice. And also while the characters in 4 are great, I prefered P5. Mostly with Sojiro that was better father figure for me than Dojima.
@@DaakkuuYRS It depended for me. I liked 3 and 4's randomized floors, personally, especially since in 4 each dungeon as unique randomized elements that make them feel unique. I guess it all comes down to how much you enjoy dungeon crawlers, though. A lot of the dungeons in 5 felt gimmicky to me, ESPECIALLY Okumura's dungeon... the only puzzle I liked in that place was the very last one with the airlocks, and by that point I was so finished with the dungeon mentally that I couldn't even enjoy it. I just think that randomized dungeons are more replayable, since you're always having to figure out the proper path and finding new chests and items on every run, whereas 5's dungeons are always the same exact thing. I'm the opposite, I love 4's cast but I found 5's to be the most boring cast of party members in the Persona series. Later on in the game half of them just stopped talking and Ryuji, Ann, and Makoto carry every conversation. Dojima just has so much more depth to me than Sojiro, as well, and you actually see him grow as a character throughout the game and his social link. He goes from a man who neglects his daughter due to blaming her for the death of his wife to a loving father who realizes that he needs to look towards the future, not be stuck in the past. Sojiro just kind of goes from grumpy old guy to tsundere grumpy old guy, there's not really any development or interesting character to him. I liked him well enough, he just suffers from the simplistic writing of Persona 5 compared to the previous games.
That's how I've been feeling about Ys IX as well, the beginning of the game lets you do a tiny bit of gameplay then forces you through a 5 minute cutscene every two seconds
@@IrieIslandGaming You'll really enjoy it! After the Japanese release I heard people say that it was really mediocre which made me nervous, but upon playing it myself it's fantastic. I don't know if you'll like it as much as Ys VIII (I personally find them to be pretty equal), but it's definitely one of the top 5 best Ys games nonetheless!
Is there any special reward like skins if you got a Persona 5 Royal save file in your system when you play Strikers? I want to get this game on PC to help show to ATLUS that the PC gaming crowd wants more Persona but i cant deny the allure of rewards from having played the main game hehehe
I play Persona 5 for 30 hours over a few weeks, then get bored, put it down for 4 months and pick it up again, its been 9 months and im 90 hours in. It just hooks me instantly, but after a few palaces, it gets a bit repetitive.

You guys are awesome! Great review!
You 2 were made for each other. You compliment each other very well ❤️
I love it when it's Kim episode especially when it's about Persona, Johnny next time let kim do the sign off 'Anyways guys till next time" you get to say it all the time.
@@Jordan3DS Or maybe let people like whatever they want and stop forcing your opinion all the time? Just saying...
I rarely comment but I always love when you have Kim with you on the videos! 🤗 and Strikers are gonna be day one purchase for me I am so excitted 😁
Aww, that little fast-forward moment was super cute!
This transition to sideview seems to feel like Nier: Automata, which would be awesome!
Great vid as always, thx Johnny and Kim! I'm so hyped! 😁
Ya , I honestly like that aspect . Never annoyed me
This video got me so hyped for this game! Loved hearing your guys thoughts on it 🤓
Hey Johnny get on that Ys 9 video ! I can't' wait to see what you think of the story (spoiler free ofc!).
I always enjoy this channel, but it’s even better when they are both in the episode.
Thanks. Added to my list to play some day.
Great video great view great playing game. Great show
i LOVE the constant talking
I know this has nothing to do with this video, but I watched your FF XI Vid last night and was like wow I can’t believe I missed out on that game. I know you had a crazy addiction to it, but even with that said I could tell you had a lot of fun. I never got into the MMORPG games, but I’m trying out 14 now and I just have no friends that are into those games so it’s a little weird for me so far. Anyway though thanks for your videos I watch religiously, but don’t always comment. An Phantasy Star is the best!
I was curious nice to see your positive thoughts
When I first heard the title "Persona 5 Strikers" I thought it was going to be a football game.
I was lucky enough to get a new copy at best buy for $ 39.99 U.S. dollars. A steal. The graphics are amazing
I've got the switch version of persona 5 strikers and loved it
Can’t wait for this to come in next week! The Japanese demo on Switch was enough to sell me on the concept last year.
🙄 greedy Atlus we don't have an english demo
I been thinking about playing this one soon.
Can’t wait to play this! Great video.
It was worse in the sky games since their is no voice acting.
Same I'm sometimes not in the mood for reading or listening to all the talking and just want to get into the action.
Exactly 💯💯
Maybe I'll pick it up. Huge Persona 2-5 fan. :)
Very cute u two......,happier than two happy console gamers in a pod....
Well, Persona is 50% visual novel 50% rpg so it's a lot of text.
Yep. People are forgetting that game base.
Yup, and I love it.
Is there good replay value and good action only if you don’t care for story?
I enjoy the characters interacting it helps you understand them better
This is my first Persona Game and I love it. I actually like the long dialoges and the combat system is a blast.
You gotta play persona 5 or 5 royal
The dragged out dialogue was the only fault in persona 5. Felt like they were holding your hand.
I love persona 5 but I’m more of a fan persona 4
@@dustingonzalez8080 Currently playing through P4G, I prefer P5R but I can understand the appeal of P4G. The Investigation team really feels like friends and their dynamic is amazing. Also Kanji almost always makes me laugh.
@@immortalslime2908 The PT's don't feel like friends?
I'm glad they took the year to dub this because I hate having to read dialogue while taking out mobs. Which did it better, this or Dragon Quest Heros?
Dragon Quest Heroes, specifically Dragon Quest Heroes II, since it's the better of the two games. It has the benefit of actually representing the entire Dragon Quest series rather than just one game, and it does a lot of unique things with the Musou framework like including an overworld.
Such a great couple! Wish you both nothing but pure happiness with your child.
It hurts the heart if you got really attached to, or play it too soon after P5/P5R
its like your friends socials dropped back to a 2star in just a few months lol
Bought the JP Switch version last year and loved it. Looking forward to playing the US release on the PS5. More musou games!
I have P5 but I didn’t beat it. I did enjoy it though. You guys made me want to revisit it and maybe I will and then go to strikers.
You are both awesome!!! 😁
just a small tip, try to cover up the conversations in the game when showing the clips if you really want to do a spoiler-free review
Im over here freaking out about King Of Fighters 2002 UM currently, but this looks like a great slasher game with reeeeaaaally good animation
Kim's reaction to the Persona gimmick of every single character having to weigh in to every situation is me everytime i play! "I DONT CARE!" lolol
Yay, Kim video :)
OK, I'm going to trust you guys because you love Persona as much as I do. But I've never been able to get into a Warriors game and ALWAYS quit after getting bored with it. It sounds like there might be enough besides mindless hack n' slash to potentially make it interesting.
I don’t mind dialogue if it’s good.
I envy you! In my country that game is far from coming. However enjoy the game and I enjoyed your video.
I’ve got it ordered and arriving Tuesday
I got a feeling Persona 6 will be the first multiplatform main numbered Persona release (PS5, Switch,PC, Xbox Series X)
@@Jordan3DS those are only the vocal minority. I have an Xbox One and play lots of anime weeb games on it
@@finallyjeremy8217 That's the problem, though, that people associate any game from Japan as a "anime weeb" game, which turns them away from most games from Japan.
Do you two play cooperative games? How do you play Strikers? Individually or taking turns?
You are a great guy John
And behind every great man, is a great woman
Well done both on coming through tough times
Persona 5 was my first of the series (still chipping away at it). You just have to realize that sometimes, if you have only 1-2 hours to play, all you are going to do is read text and click through for your whole session.
I enjoyed all the talking in Persona 5
Had this bad boy on pre-order for a while now. Patiently waiting to jump back in the meta verse.
This game looks so great. I'm pretty new to Persona 5- I played the Royal version when it came out, and I just want to get Strikers ASAP. I love Musou, and Persona 5, perfect combo for me.
You should try out the PS2 versions of Persona 3 and 4 sometime, they're like 5 but better and I'm sure you'd love them!
@@Jordan3DS I played P4. It was good, nothing wrong about it. but I prefered 5.
I played the japanese demo and omg the talking too haha I just want to get back in the action! Can't wait for the full game in english!
That's how I've been feeling about Ys IX as well, the beginning of the game lets you do a tiny bit of gameplay then forces you through a 5 minute cutscene every two seconds
@@Jordan3DS haha for an action rpg that def is a struggle lol. I've been really looking forward to Ys IX! I loved VIII and Origins on the switch.
Ok, you've just convinced me to preorder! I was hoping for a ps5 version but I'm sure I'll live lmao. Thanks for the enthusiasm and video in general!
Love Persona 5, love Musou. Pre ordered. Simple as.
Reasons I love Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne because you are not bogged down in talking.
What is the post game like? Is there lots of cool grindy stuff to do?
I got the Platinum for Persona 5 Royal..I am so looking forward to Strikers.
That's how I felt with Persona 5 in terms of dialogue. It would often feel like a visual novel.
Persona 3-5 in general are pretty much visual novel RPGs
Holy fuck its almost here, cannot wait to play strikers
Love everything Persona.
How would you rank the games?
Personally, I'd say 3 = 4 > 2 EP > 1 > 2 IS = 5
Is there any special reward like skins if you got a Persona 5 Royal save file in your system when you play Strikers? I want to get this game on PC to help show to ATLUS that the PC gaming crowd wants more Persona but i cant deny the allure of rewards from having played the main game hehehe
I play Persona 5 for 30 hours over a few weeks, then get bored, put it down for 4 months and pick it up again, its been 9 months and im 90 hours in. It just hooks me instantly, but after a few palaces, it gets a bit repetitive.
I didn't even know this came out in the west, what a pleasant surprise!
Feb 23rd is the official release date for NA
Keep up the good work crew! 🤓
LOVE THE PERSONA T-SHIRT!!!
The dual bomber jackets is adorbs. Has Kim considered getting her own channel? She is very genuine when talking about games. Feel like there could be more genuine female UA-camrs talking about games.
she is going to take everything
I’m going to absolutely eat up all of that talking. Persona 5/Royal is my favorite game of all time so any new information with these characters is something I’ve been waiting for! Have it all preordered!
