Oslo Travel Guide: Downhill sledding at Korketrekkeren

- Опубліковано 16 вер 2024
- Korketrekkeren is a 2 km (1.3 miles) long toboggan track in Oslo. This is a fun winter activity that you can do in Oslo as a tourist. It is enjoyable for children as well as for adults.
To get to Korketrekkeren you have to take T-bane 1 (Metro) to Frognerseteren, which is the last stop. There, you can rent a sled and helmet, costing between 50 and 150 NOK. Currently the selection is between a wooden sled, a wooden family sled, and a metal adult sled. If you want to go fast, I recommend the metal sled.
The track starts right by the rental house, and continues 2 km down from there. There are both flat and steep parties, but you won’t have to walk much. The track is prepared every night, but the conditions depend heavily on weather. If it has been snowing recently, the track should be in good condition. If there is a lot of ice, it can be dangerous. In that case, the sled rental will be closed. If unsure, check the website of akeforeningen.no/ which are responsible for the track.
You also need at least a day pass for public transportation because you are going to have to take the metro from where the track ends, at Midtstuen, back up to Frognerseteren.
Korketrekkeren literally means “the corkscrew”. At summer time Korketrekkeren is used by daredevils for downhill cycling.

Omg looks so fun!!😍😍 and scary😬
I lived in Oslo for 6 months and of you are there over winter I highly recommend doing this activity! It’s 30 min from the city by T- bane and you can keep riding the train back once you’ve gone down the hill! It’s so so fun!
We were there in early February of 2019 and the conditions were about the same. VERY bumpy in some spots. I went down the trail four times, even though the train was down which added a considerable amount of time to each round. We finished the trail at Midtstuen, rode the train to Holmenkollen, then walked up the hill to a completely full bus which drove EVERYONE to Frognersteren. Even with that, it was definitely one of the highlights of the trip.
Jeg elsker Norge.
for a moment I thought I was watching an old noir film, because of the wonderful grey and white scenery! by the way my friend next time don't forget to get a pillow to sit on while sledding!
Best video of Korketrekkeren. It was so informative and I'm glad he didn't know how to sled because I was in two minds about going since I don't know how, but noe I definitely will go😅
First, this would be awesome to do. Second, I LOVE your videos, this is one of the most hilarious tour guide videos I've ever seen... My partner and I have almost gone through all your videos and we highly appreciate them. Thank you for making such fun and involved videos of Oslo. You seriously need your own travel TV show.
Another great reason to visit Norway in the winter. Good fun. Thank you!
We did this on a trip to Oslo a few years ago with much less snow , but brilliant icy conditions. I'm sure we were doing 25 MPH plus in places especially on the later runs as the Temp dropped. I only fell off a few times and the sprung toboggans are amazing. Definitely recommend it!!
Thanks Jonas: not my speciality winter sports but you present it with such style.
Aw man this looks great, Oslo just looks better and better the more I learn about it. I really hope I get to move there after college!
I would love to visit Norway someday, really appreciate you showing us around through your videos. takk.
Great video! Thanks for all the tips. Looking forward to sledding soon there.
Thanks for all your great and funny vids! My gf and I will be in Oslo soon. We’ll be using your guides to help explore the city.
Such a nice comment :) Oslo is one of those cities that are a lot more pleasant if you know where to go.
how beautiful is Norway! I hope to visit again next year
Very informative. I am from Southeast asia, so never experience any winter sport in my life. Great video
I'm glad you liked the video! You can go to Oslo and do this in the winter. Around December to February is the best time.
By the way, I live in SE Asia now, Thailand. That's why I haven't made any new videos lately.
@@OsloProJonas สวัสดีค่ะ คนไทยเองค่ะ
Hope you have a nice stay in Thailand
Thanks for the video, definitely going to check it out next time! Greetings from Germany :)
Hey there, thank you for your videos. I am coming to Oslo this weekend, your videos help me alot.
Thanks for good videos 👍👍
It's difficult to play this sled while taking a video. Thank you very much for making this interesting video. I've seen the summer and winter in Oslo. They're both enjoyable.😘
When the pandemic ends im gonna go to norway probably. I would have alot of fun on that mountain!
Covid (restrictions) officially ended yesterday, Saturday, the 25th of June. www.regjeringen.no/no/aktuelt/norge-gar-over-til-en-normal-hverdag-med-okt-beredskap/id2872539/
@@OsloProJonas does that mean you can now move to norway?
@@uselessguy1 I don't know much about visas to Norway because it's not something I ever have to deal with. As for entering the country, I think it's best to check the official website: www.fhi.no/en/op/novel-coronavirus-facts-advice/facts-and-general-advice/entry-quarantine-travel-covid19/
Best of luck!
Awesome man, thanks a lot for the video, will try that out ;)
Thanks for the video. We don't really have much snow in Louisiana where I live, maybe one every 2 or 3 years we get a tiny bit. Never enough for sledding, so I have to live vicariously through people like you, haha. Looks like fun!
Hi Jonas, we are staying in Oslo at the 23th may. We want to see the city, go shopping, visit the ski jumping area and drinking beer in some bars and pubs. It would be great to see you and doing some small talk :) Maybe you can show us some hot spots? We also can drink a beer togehter ;) greets from Germany✌
Thank you Jonas for the realy realy nice meeting with us. We are realy enjoined the time with you. You show us some great places in Olso. We are realy enjoined! Thank you very much!!! Greets from Germany Hannover Vikings✌
Han her er drit morsom haha elsker kanalen din man😂
«I thik i figuerd out how to steer it» *crashes*
Looks like tons of fun!! Should invest in a helmet-mount for the camera.
Hi! What's the best place to safely do some sledding with my 2 year old toddler (he's almost 3). Thanks!
Most people would probably just go to one of the many local slopes with a toddler. But then you need your own sled or something to slide on. You can buy them at any sports shop. Doesn't have to be fancy.
Here's an overview of slopes in Oslo:
www.aktivioslo.no/guide/aking/akebakker/
You can also go to Korketrekkeren as I did in the video to rent a sled. Just go when there are not too many people like weekdays and use your feet to break and you'll be fine.
superb
Lucky to go last year. Hire the wooden sleds if possible. Just keep your feet down to steer and go early for a smooth ride.
That path on video, that starts at 5:55, is short one from metro station to the starting point if i am not wrong. It can be terribly fast if you dont use "brakes" :D
Hi, where have you been ?, i really enjoyed watching your videos before going to Oslo last summer. Oslo is great but so expensive , i'd like to go back there someday. You're lucky to live there.
jeg likt videon tusen takk
Great video! Such fun once you get the hang of it. You never did this as a child?
Thanks! It was a fun day. Like most kids in Norway, I had a sled, and I used it every winter. But it was made of plastic with a steering wheel.
wow looks so fun! what else can do you in winter?! also, what the people are eating at the back, at the end of the video?
Various types of skiing, snowboarding, or ice skating. The people in the background were barbecuing hotdogs.
Thank you for this absolutely good and helpful information! very entertaining vlog. I wish this channel would have hit me this year before my stay in Oslo! hope you continue to film (did you stop?). I hope for more oslopro productions.
Thank you for the nice comment! I've been living abroad for the last year. That's why I haven't been filming :(
understand, that explains the break. yes, then I just keep subscribing to you and wait until you're back in beautiful norway. all the best and nice greetings from germany black forest
dude yur hilarious lol ask a kid how to do it, they are flying ... i never done sledding B4
Nice video, I guess you forgot your gloves behind while shooting the video.
Thanks! I don't remember losing my gloves that day. Maybe I took them off to handle the camera and audio recorder buttons.
Which is the best place to countdown during New Year 2019?
NYE in Norway is very much celebrated with families or at home parties. Most bars are closed, but there are some that have costly events. Stratos rooftop bar is well known for this. There are public fireworks in the fjord. Akershus castle is a good place to watch from. On the other side of town in Vigelandsparken people usually gather to drink an shoot up fireworks. Especially by the Monolith. I would just get some beer from the shop (closes at 6pm) and gather at any park in the center and crash a party.
Hi Jonas, I'm visiting Oslo this weekend and want to Cross Country Ski. I saw some skiers in the background of this video -- Where is the best place to rent skis and use them?
You can rent all kinds of skis including cross country skis at Oslo Vinterpark. It's right above Korketrekkeren. Take T-bane line 1 towards Frognerseteren and get of at the second last stop, Voksenkollen. Book online at www.oslovinterpark.no/oslo-winterpark
OsloPro Thank you so much!
miss your videos. publish something please
Thanks! I can't, because I'm not living in Norway. I haven't been there since last year because of Covid. I'm stuck in Asia. If I go home, that would be a one-way ticket.
@@OsloProJonas when you return to Norway you are invited and welcomed to Serbia
walking up that hill is no picnic ..u should explain that at the beginning ..
Great work Jonas! Love the self directed tour videos of Oslo. Would you available to answer a few tourist related questions via email?
It isn’t as easy as it looks 😂
I drove a sled since i was 7
And i know how to PROPERLY steer
You need to put your foot sideways into the snow and it will make a snow pile witch will turn you left or right
Thanks for the guidance. Next time I will give it a try!
@@OsloProJonas no problem also where is this place ???

Do you have Instagram 😊 and I'm looking forward to seeing your new video
I have been there in Oslo 4 times but i did go this place
You're not alone, this was actually my first time in Korketrekkeren. I've lived here for 12 years. It was really fun.
Rechts bremsen = rechts fahren
Links bremsen = links fahren.
verry cool video i make I also do sledding videos :)
That looks like fun! I see you are a tad more skilled than me at downhill sledding. 😄|
that guys must be the only one nthat don't know how to slide...
I wish had good friend to show me around I am from London UK
😂😂😂
😂
I am trying to learn Norwegian 😊
