Golden age horror just crushes everything from silverage thru now. The artists did amazing covers. LB cole, bill everett, frazetta, Elias, wood. These guys were in a different level 70 years ago.

Sometimes it amazes me that Harvey was so big in the horror comics genre. Today Harvey is much better known for publishing the adventures of Casper the Friendly Ghost, Richie Rich the Poor Little Rich Boy, Wendy the Good Little Witch, Hot Stuff the Little Devil, Little Dot, Sad Sack etc. Thank you for the video. It was informative and enjoyable.

Another great video. I appreciate the variety of books you show in these highlight videos. That is the beautiful thing about golden age collecting. It’s a whole new world and there are just so many great books to discover.

Unlike silver age books, I don’t think these books have been reproduced; so, the only way to see the interiors is if they are raw. Fantastic art! Thanks.

A great bunch of pre code goodness, Cowboy. That Astonishing 32 is indeed a werewolf. It corresponds to a werewolf story inside. I suspect that the cover was lettered while the cover art was black and white. Without the brown color, the werewolf could be mistaken for a vampire. Thanks for another wonderful pch video!

    hello comic cowboy,
good video,..........i agree with you about sometimes preferring the raw books, I never really supported the slabbing idea to begin with but thats another story. heh.
Raw books allow us to read the comic and that was what it was all about to begin with,....for sure. those ps artbooks are good for that.
Yes, I know that smell you speak of too,....maybe we could market some incense that smells like it to fanboys at cons, huh?..... lol. ..hmmm.
I think, and Im sure you know, that you should maybe mention the artist assoc. w/covers if known.. some who want to start collecting might appreciate the extra info?,.....
you mention subgenres/cover motifs w/in pch,....ex. scuba cvr, de-cap cvr, chess cvrs, skull cvr, etc. and I see you have some atlas books in this video, ...ok.
how bout this for an atlas subgenre?:
ATLAS GREYS,? is this a subgenre?,.... it has been for me for some time
........when choosing color palettes for comic jobs in the 50s, only stan lee / Atlas regularly used grey as a dominant color,.... there's about 70 ex in my file now,.....
i believe that the cover artist for that out of the shadows comic is AC Hollingsworth, Im sure you know about him but yes, he definitely did a a lot of graphic work/ad work and fine art illustration,....as you assumed.
enjoyed your video,...sorry for bending your ear,.....

You really need to suggest possible prices so us beginners can learn! Putting out prices can set us on the right path. We are all so helpless. Prices for suspense #22 are all over the place so what does my pal do? I love reading but he wants to sell. It’s what you say is raw. Should he slab it
, look at me with these terms.l

Hello, amazing video! Please continue to discuss PCH. Would you consider selling the mystic 28?

What heck is a "raw" or "slav" comic? Never heard these terms. Thanks.

Black Cat was the star feature for the first 29 issues (I believe) of the comic. After that the focus changed to reflect the switch from super-heroes westerns and horror comics.
