I started collecting PCH in the 90s & amassed quite a collection. Good thing, because I can’t truly afford them anymore at these current prices! Lmao Anyway, agree 100% on the Gerber guide.
You're welcome!. If you haven't already seen it you might want to check out the 1955 Dean Martin-Jerry Lewis film Artists and Models which deals with the comic book controversy of the time. The horror/sci-fi comic book heroine in the film is called The Bat Lady. The director of the film Frank Tashlin started out as an animator so he knows the material. Dean Martin was an avid comic book reader and his favorite hero was Batman, Jerry Lewis talked about Dean's comic book interest in an interview also saying that Dean would send him out to buy his comic books from the newsstand.
I had a good collection at one time but sadly had to sell most of it. I did keep one, EC Haunt Of Fear 25 CGC graded 5.0. Love those ghastly ingles covers.
Page turned the Gerber books at a local library. Website: Comic Book Plus is where you can read entire issues of Golden , Atomic and Silver age comics from a variety of publishers, except DC and Marvel. The Don Heck cover of Comic Media's War Fury #1 (1952) is the true first appearance of the man with the bullethole in the head who is featured on the classic cover of the precode horror title Horrific # 3 (1953).
mister mystery 6, easily top ten pch. you know it still has a lot of growth potential when u compare the number of copies on the census with the number that you see on the market. 5.5 for a standard is like a 9.2 lol. pretty much why i stay away from ec and harvey anymore - too many copies and too many high grade copies out there. great books from my fav genre!
Great video. Would you invest in a super rare book like Black Cat Mystery #50 in poor condition ? I know it goes againt one of your 3 C rules however. Thanks
Why waste money on grading and getting it back so you can't read the comic afterwards? I mean a plastic baggie w/ ziplock should be enough to store it properly + you can take it out, browse through it and best of all SMELL the comic. All comic got a certain smell when it came out to the newsstand or wherever you bought them back then. I love the old smell as it transport me back to when I was a kid and was able to buy old comics for a very low price. Actually most of my old comics I paid nothing for. I found them at junk yards or got them from people cleaning their attic.
the grading is mostly done for investment purposes. If you want to sell an expensive comic at auction, you'll get the best price for it if it's slabbed. For my personal enjoyment, I read comic books that are not slabbed a lot.
I love the horror covers. The art work is amazing
This was a great video. Thank you!

Great content once again Peter. I learnt a lot. I LOVE pre-code horror, one of the coolest covers in comic history.

I have a big collection. I've bought all of them in the past 5 or so years. I have over 500. Mostly all cheap with patience and persistence
Spine Dredger nice congrats!

that is a classic cover and unless it’s restored, worth investing in
You think atlas was bigger than EC? Perhaps you just didn’t show any of your EC? Does cgc give allowances for the age of these?
