What about marriage?

Quite a few people have asked me what I think about marriage, divorce, LGBTQ issues, and so forth. Chris and I have been married for four years so we’re still pretty new at it, but we have the example of a lot of couples around us who have been faithfully married for decades. So that’s important and that’s the model of marriage we aspire to. But it’s also very important to me that every person - married, single, or whatever station in life - is treated with dignity, respect, and compassion. At the same time, Jesus' words to us on sex and sexuality, like many of his teachings, require us to renounce things that our human nature often clamors for - things like material possessions, wealth, and fame. That includes sex outside of marriage. When we’re able to give these those things up, no matter how hard that may be, then we come closer to Christ.
