The sixth and final phase of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy radio series, The Hexagonal Phase, was notable for being the first phase of the Hitchhiker's Guide radio series (aside from the Primary and Secondary Phase, which originated most of the story elements seen in the first two H2G2 books) to not be based on a Douglas Adams novel, being instead based on the sixth book in the series "And Another Thing..." by Eoin Colfer.
When Dirk Maggs, the man behind the Tertiary and Q phases of the radio series, was finally able to get the sixth phase off the ground, he decided that he'd only do it if he could rework as much scrapped Douglas Adams material into it as possible. So, he tasked Kevin Jon Davies with searching through the unused writings of DNA which could be reworked into the radio phase.
The following video (split into 4 parts to avoid copyright issues), compares the original material of Douglas Adams to how it was reworked into the Hexagonal Phase, sourced from the deleted radio scenes present in Neil Gaiman's Don't Panic, and the deleted chapters and sections of the H2G2 book series present in Jem Robert's The Frood. Enjoy!
Note: This video is much more of a direct comparison between the scrapped DNA material and how it was adapted into the radio series. This isn't quite an much of an analysis or deep dive into the history of the projects like my other "Groovy Jake" videos. This was just meant to be a (relatively) quick little comparison video.
My next Groovy Jake upload, however, is likely gonna be my longest and most ambitious video yet!
