2015 Yamaha MT-09 (FZ-09) Test Ride & Review

  • My normal ride is an 09 R1 and I also ride a 2014 Street triple. Riding this bike in comparison to these two bike made me realize what good value for money the MT 09 is! If you are thinking about getting one of these bikes, definitely take one for a test ride!
    Unfortunately I didn't have enough time to get it out in to the twisties to give it a real test ride :)

    I've had r1's,ninjas,the lot and I've bought one of these and its the only bike I look forward to jumping on.it's got loads of power,loves to wheelie,and eats the bends.a mode is the bollocks.if anyone is thinking of buying one then go for it,you won't be dissapointed.100% fun.

    The lunacy of this over the R1 is the heart of the beast. Triple engines have character! Plain and simple!

    Good review mate, that's a bike I'd been interested in test riding one day. 20-30 minutes is not nearly enough time!

    These bikes are growing on me. I love the street triple but this is cheaper and more powerful.

    • @RidingPhilCollins

      +Robert Greenwood Yeh its kind of a no brainier. You get a little bit more quality with the street triple, but that also (here in New Zealand at least) come with expensive parts and accessories. You can get so many aftermarket parts for the MT 09 for a fraction of the price.

    Dream bike at the moment, amazing looking bike and so comfy and torquey

    • @RidingPhilCollins
      @RidingPhilCollins  8 років тому

      Yeh man. I'm riding the street triple now. did seriously consider trading it for an mt09 but I just don't know if I can justify it. I still think the Mt 09 is a much more fun bike than the street triple and more comfortable

    • @skuxxdiabetic

      Riding PhilCollins I personally haven't given the street triple a go, yet ;)

    I liked this bike but ended up with a CB1000R as it was way more comfortable. Great bike though. Naked's are so much better than sport bikes IMO. You get most of the power without being in an uncomfortable seating position and more practicality. Just ask yourself what you're losing by switching from the R1 to the MT-09...a little bit of horsepower that you probably don't use very often anyways? And what are you gaining with the MT-09? Comfort that you'll feel from the time you get on until you get off, probably some extra fuel economy, better luggage hauler, easier ride in traffic and city streets.

      +Forever Lost Your comment is totally on point! Exactly the thoughts running through my head! I have briefly looked at the cb100r. May have to check one out.

      +Riding PhilCollins The CB1000R is more grunty but heavier. Real comfy and feel solid as anything on the road. It will do everything well and is very well made being Honda but it wont be real exciting & you might just want more. I'm sure I'm faster on my street triple now.

    • @MultiKnuckleSandwich
      @MultiKnuckleSandwich 8 років тому +1

      +Adam Green It definitely feels a little bigger and is heavier. If my commute wasn't 140 miles round trip I probably would have taken a harder look at the MT-09, but comfort was a high priority for me. RPC, I'd wait for the 2016 Speed Triple R, personally. I'll probably trade the CB1000R in for one of those at some point.

    • @lindsaywood2509
      @lindsaywood2509 2 роки тому

      Yep. I dailied a tuned k8 GSXR1000 for years. Stupid fast. Eventually I got tired of feeling bent over it (I'm tall) every time I went for a ride. Now I'm wanting something a bit more upright, comfortable and pokey. Copped some flack for looking at the "midrange" super nakeds like this. People lose sight of things, a 130 hp bike is still really, really fast. And the super nakeds tend to be stronger through the midrange where you're actually using it on the street.
      Maybe I'm getting old, but I'll take something a bit slower if I enjoy it more now.

    Is this a 125cc bike? Would it be suitable for a learner bike i.e. post CBT course, and learning as you ride on the road?

    If you had to choose between a Triumph Street Triple and the Yamaha MT09 which one would it be and why ?

    • @RidingPhilCollins
      @RidingPhilCollins  8 років тому

      Daniel King ..I would probably go mt09. I'm riding a 2014 street triple r at the moment and I just don't seem to be able to bond with it. Parts/accessories for the street triple are so expensive in New Zealand compared to the mt09 and I think the way the mt09 delivers it's power is much more fun and exciting. I would have traded the striple for an mt09 but it's my wife's bike and I want to live haha.

    Test rode with a semi intention to buy. Because yeah, everyone says good things about it. And is was bloody brilliant. Unfortunately I have, for lack of a better word, an emotional connection with my current bike.
    Also, having a bike in the Takapuna area sucks balls if you want to go for a good ride on some twisties. By the time you get anywhere decent you have already navigated an hour of shitty motorway and terrible drivers and really are not in a good mindset to have fun. Pretty average for short test rides too.

    • @RidingPhilCollins
      @RidingPhilCollins  8 років тому

      +SaustheBoss Yeh I know what you mean with emotional connections. I really don't want to get rid of my R1! Yeh Its a mission from there. You need at least an hour or an hour and a half to get some decent roads in from Takapuna

    its a great bike on very smooth straight roads...BUT..!!!!! its a bit of a handful on the twistys...very bouncy and loose feeling and I'm afraid that all that torque is very scary with such a bouncy bike ....it totally lacks composure in and out of corners ...the standard street triple might not be much better but the street triple R is in another league...i suppose it depends on where you ride on motorways and dual carriageways the MT09 is quicker (slightly)...or on real rider roads..????..i know I've had both bikes in the last year and done 7000 kms on both...

      No i'm trying to resit buying one because I am riding a street triple now. It is hard because I love to power of the mt09 and how cheap aftermarket parts are etc. but I can't justify the swap atm. I probably would rather the mt 09 over the street triple if I was to start over.

      +mohammed nawas Think I'm going to have to say on that short ride I like the MT more. It is more of a fun bike to ride with more character and power. The bars are a bit higher and there seems to be more leg room so it is more comfortable. I can feel from how soft the suspension was under breaking that the street triple would be a lot better and more stable though the corners however and is probable a better quality bike all round. But the MT puts a bigger smile on my face personally.

      I think I was getting a bit excited and comparing it to standard mode on the r1. the r1 is of corse faster but the way the Mt 09 delivers it's power is just so much more addictive and fun. it just wants to lift that front wheel with out even trying.

      Ha Ha fair enough! Yes it's a lightweight machine for sure. I'm liking the look of the XSR900, just waiting for it to hit the UK showrooms.

    • @RidingPhilCollins
      @RidingPhilCollins  8 років тому

      Yeh I've been riding for about 5 years. I probably wouldn't recommend this for a new rider even though it's easy to ride. The power could probably catch a new rider out.
