Funny how good defensive teams always have good goalies. You can’t have good goalies with nurse and ceci out there. Then even the forwards not helping out.
Yeah, it isn't just a random occurrence that Ullmark went from Vezina to sub .900 goalie in the blink of an eye. It's that Boston started to pass the puck to the Florida forwards in their own zone, cough up the puck to forechecking and give up inside shots like they hadn't done all season.
On the Draisaitl point, he gets 6 goals on 9 shots (66%) in the first two games, but ONE assist on 11 shots for the next 4 games. So I feel like good teams just trumps good players every time. How many times do we get scoring leaders and season MVPs actually winning championships? Makar might be an exception, goalies might make it an exception, but for the most part, putting any one (or two) players above the rest just isn't usually a good plan.
Oh boo hoo....Dubas miscalculated on so many levels it's incredible. Leafs have no prospects, no picks, and 10 UFA's. He got paid millions, and now his ego is bruised. That would tell me he doesn't have the stones to do the job, and never did. All his Soo safety blankets have backfired. The Woke Generation GM needs some mental time......oh boo hoo......Leaf fans deserve better....or maybe they don't
I watched loads of hockey over my life time the Stanley Cup playoffs is the toughest championship to win, I look at teams like the early 80's Oilers full of talent but needed to learn how to win in the playoffs, I sat and thought , this team as it stands needs to stay together as much as it can , sadly in the hard cap NHL that may not be possible perfect world signing Ryan O'reilly Acari and Schen , it would mean players like Kerfoot Kemp Hall gutsfasson would not be resigned you want to keep the character players, then try to resign Matthews but if Matthews does not sign a new contract by July 1 then the painful descion of trading Matthews which would be a really blow to this team , but if that does happen I think LA KIngs would be a team that would be interested and could offer a decent package of picks prospects a current top player lets hope the Leafs get his new contract done, keep the core allow the UFA's I mention to walk , freeing up cap space, this team is hurting they know they missed a big chance , but I think these players want to win , see what happens
Cool. Scoring just 2 goals in SEVEN STRAIGHT GAMES isn't close to enough. They don't leave themselves nearly enough of their cap for anyone better, and you can't be certain that a guy like Woll or Hill will be a playoff performer when they have zero playoff experience. It's not the same as the regular season, and treating it as such is erroneous. O'Reilly, Matthews, Marner, and Tavares went from 13 goals and 21 assists to 1 goal and 6 assists between the first and second round. And that's not how their goalies played. That's how they approached the series. We can talk about Bobrovsky all we want, but 6x more goals and 3.5x more assists isn't how Vasilevskiy played. Like, your suggestion is the goalies cost them every game, when the series was very competitive (4-1, with 2 OT losses).
@@BurtTurbo Gudas was holding the stick and he should of got 2 for snowing Woll but I do think Woll was tracking the puck and caught the release, aside from snow in the face. Either way, should have been a penalty.
In life some of the greatest strides you will make are from failure. Greater strides will be gained from humiliating failure. You take people like Dubas and Keefe, relatively young and certainly inexperienced in a very tough business, and let them at it. Isn't it adding to the failure, by ignoring the investment made in their development and now firing them. If they were not smart enough to learn, I'd say let em go. But a knee jerk reaction to a humiliation is never smart.
Because he now wants to move away from his original hypothesis of weighing down the cap holistically with 4 forwards.....that overwhelming offensive power can win a Stanley Cup.....that's why he should be given another chance? This is someone who perhaps has some deep seeded issue w/what it takes in play off hockey.....grit and physicality knocked Dubas from playing the game, correct? Look at some of the best TEAMS....I would point out the Islanders of the 80s, the Oilers of the 80's and that Anaheim team that won it. You need some western CAD toughness....you need grit and you can't add it at the trade line with someone on the back 9. Dubas was given a team w/some really nice young pieces....you can see how emotional he is in the press box. He is probably just as emotional when he is dealing w/player contracts. MOVE ON TORONTO....and study history to see the needed elements to win a CUP--not the Presidents Trophy
For the Flames (best case scenario for Canadian teams that missed the playoffs), it's getting a piece that takes them away from 'consolation prize' hockey. Like, they won 4 less games than the Panthers but had one more point. Just 76 points on wins. 17 OT or shootout losses. Get two of those guys turning the corner, a goalie rebound, maybe one more solid D-man, and I personally think Calgary could pretty easily do a 2nd or 3rd round next year. Missing the playoffs is a huge hit and a big chip on your shoulders. And for those guys, it'll be both interesting to see how they respond and shocking if it's not drastically better.
Toronto needs to get tough and find players that plays hard. Schenn, Achiari, Laferty are a good start. Replace Holl, Kerfoot, Rees, May be Bunting as well. Geordano is showing his age. Need bigger D-men. re-evaluate Murray and buy him out or trade him or put him on LTIR.
You get value for Nylander...marner, I just don't know. I don't want to go through crap with his father again and being taken for every penny. Extend matthews for what he's currently getting, no raise. Tavares stays we'll never attract another huge free agent plus his contract was always about the first 5-6 years.
Could be that Shanny is not doing press because he's not going to represent this franchise going forward. Dubas may get his job. Move up Pridham to GM. Shanny could take a GM job in Detroit. That won't change what's on the ice, but we'll see where that goes.
Yzerman wouldn't give up GM for Shanny lmfao... Honestly Yzerman is tight, knit and he has his guys already. I don't think Shanahan comes to Detroit. Also Shanahan is like the least troubling thing about the leafs.
Keep Nylander. He performs in the playoffs. Marner doesn't, he is too lightweight and too easily neutralized in tight checking playoffs. Try to get a power forward like a Josh Anderson.
