Wow that’s a really interesting question! I’m not sure that is coming up soon bc a lot of the gatekeeping jobs have really strong unions and I think they’d be hard to get rid of (like, arguably a computer could do those jobs now). But I am honestly kinda divided on if it would be better or worse. More consistent decisions might make it harder to appeal or push back on the decisions.
I can relate, had similar problems getting help in the UK.
In some ways, it seems like the level of public vitriol toward people using social services is more explicit in the UK
