Where are our lost talents and disowned powers hiding?
GO DIRECTLY TO THE DREAM INTERPRETATION HERE: 01:04:14
Where is your dark twin hiding? Helps us identify parts of ourselves pushed into the unconscious due to conflicts with our family of origin and misalignment with cultural and family norms. We first encounter shadow by projecting it on others. The despicable traits we cannot stand in others point to similar qualities we refuse to acknowledge in ourselves. Self-confrontation and honest introspection can help us say, “I am the one who hides this terrible flaw inside myself. I am the one who rejects my inner dark twin.” When we can approach reclaiming all parts of ourselves with good humor, patience, and courage, we discover a reservoir of intense energy, talents, and creativity.
Prepare to discover why we dream of figures who hunt and chase us, whether it is safe to face our inner darkness alone, how to identify our most vilified characteristics when it’s the right time to prioritize shadow work, what is pressuring us to accept our inner dark twin, and where this courageous process will lead us…and so much more.

Your podcast is a gift to HUmanity. Thank you all for stepping into the limelight! 🥰
My family had a strong orientation towards seeing the good in everyone. Looking at the brightside. I'm processing shadow emotions and it's all darkness, fear, anger, disgust, tension, terror and caution. It's everything that's not bright. I wish I had been allowed to hold more not knowing and darkness as a child and young person. It's definitely a challenge to allow all of this material to have an energetic life now and let me tell you the energetic nature of these emotions are strong. Really strong. I feel like I'm participating in the emotional Olympics somedays.
Thanks for this podcast. It's really helped me on my healing journey.
I had a similar experience growing up snd I completely agree with you.
🌟⭐🌟⭐🌟
This is my 'go to' channel now. I'm extremely grateful.
Me too!

Thank you so much for this! I always look forward to your videos and this is such a great subject! I remember as a university student studying history and politics first discovering Jung's work from reading Laurens van der Post's book "Jung and the Story of our time" about how if we don't acknowledge and integrate our collective shadow they can rise up and become harmful and I ever since that I now always observe societal and political situations in light of this knowledge... and it helps make more sense of things.
It is very challenging to find a space for male aggression that resolves rather than destroys or results in judgement. Even lap swimming aggressively is often judged and looked down on. I worked in a pre school for a while and noticed very early on the boys were chastised for what I thought was harmless rough housing.
What makes you think that is a modern phenomenon?
As if the person triggering us is an enlarging mirror for what we are hiding from ourselves, and it all appears much bigger than it is in reality, and out of context...
I want Joseph to talk me to sleep 😆 jokes aside, love the podcast and I'm really glad I found the channel and can finally see you guys. Thank you for all your work. I especially had this episode on repeat during my rides along with the one on loneliness.
This watch was one of my favorite episodes to date and worthy of keeping bookmarked for re-watch/reference. Chock full of food for thought. Thank you all so much!
Shadow from the spiritual side of things is what my ancestors call aka cords, the reflection to the average westerner is an attachment in which they carry themselves. These cords can be seen in the astral realm by clairvoyant ones. The cords typically are connected to those you have some type of avairance with...inability to forgive, someone you hate, a person you love. Both good and bad cords keep us connected. ❤ so clean yourself virtuously!
I've been a listener for a long time, but just seeing the new video format for the first time. It's interesting being confronted with an image I have built of what y'all look like with the real deal. Love the show and love being able to see y'alls beautiful faces. Thank you for all the incredible content!
Love this podcast. It was sorely needed
This is timely .
I hate my shadow for being the wanna be agreeable nature opposite of what matters...
Important storms through forgiveness. Thanks for that.
Yep yep, you got it. All parts of us need compassion to work through the burdens they carry.
I really appreciate Deborah’s attention to defining important concepts as the conversation begins. I need to begin by being grounded; it helps me to better understand the evolving definition.
I love all of this its great and so funny and true. However, the part of kids being able to do shadow work I feel is important. And I don't mean deep dive shadow work but the strength to introspect is such a power. I have been doing shadow work for the last 3 years and me and my daughter do introspection work as to why she wants certain things or do certain things and it's just the same as meditation for me. You get to introspect and see why do I do things the way I do. I think if all kids could introspect and see things from other angles the world would be a better place
To a degree. I've been very introspective in my life, but that has led to isolating myself away from others, observing more than participating. I think there is a balance between being introspective and engaging with others as well as being present externally.
In evidence of this just look out at the world acting out our collective shadows. “ Perception is a mirror not a fact. And what I look upon is my state of mind reflected outward.” ACIM. Thank you all so much for this wonderful conversation so grounding 🙏💚x
kiaa ora e te whanau thank you for your mahi and presence in this really powerful realm of exploration of consciousness and understanding human psyche and nature of people. i have been listening for awhile now. this ones a beauty.
Nice talk you three.
Thanks .
Thank you, just discovered your channel cannot stop listening 🙏🙏🙏
This dream interpretation was outstanding. Thank you!
I got an hour in: the tale of the lady who wished she hadn’t been so nice, really nudged something I notice in my mum’s side of the family - where it’s all a lot of, “wait to be offered”, and “always say please and thank you”.
Great starting points to raising well mannered children. But I now, at middle age, recognise a certain subservience to the teachings.
The shadow is something I try to incorporate into my life - knowing that it is actually something I want. Difficult to pin point, but is something I tame by trying to stay as honest as I can, and realising everybody else is equal (almost) to my own needs.
Maybe that’s why I have to perhaps forego my upbringing and encourage the shadow out - else I be swallowed whole by the world 👍
1:02:21 Thank you for that anecdote Joseph. Thank you very much.
Thank you!!! I'm finally starting to get it ...😮
It all came together for me with Lisa's comments at minute 57. Thank you all so much.
An amazing analysis of her dream!
It's not that we can't know about it. But we can't talk about it. We have to wrestle with it alone.
That's why we need psychotherapists.
@14:45, how does it come to pass that someone has never developed a persona? Can you point to some readings or either make an episode specifically on how it happens to have never developed a persona, and then also how to address that problem?
Thanks again for all of your work 🙏🏾
I love your show! I’m learning so much.
Appreciate you lot drilling into this a bit. Very helpful.
great episode thank you 💜💜
Growing up within a cult where ‘worldly’ education and professional success was very much repressed and frowned upon if not indirectly through influence and pressure, ironically my shadow is validated education and professional success - which is a dispossessing reality to live in… where I’m uneasy with integrating and obtaining and benefiting myself despite being extremely learned and knowledgeable in a diffuse, non applied and generalist way… I wonder if that is a shadow I can own, integrate and embrace…
My 5 years in gangs saw my shadow incarnate to the point my light became my shadow
That happens to people that have harmed beings. Their shadow becomes light. I've spoken to people in jail that say similar things. Good Job!
@@losskopein What does this mean? Would u elaborate pls?
Can you just explain what you mean? The gangs made your shadow go light?
Bringing one shadow out into the light of day and using it to bash others is not the way to go. The shadow should be dealt with in-house; not brought to the public square to cause disruption. The psychology of Carl Jung dealt with the shadow and how to reconcile it. In addition to the shadow the lost love is also sought outside rather than being reconciled within. If we reconcile our shadow and find our lost love within ourselves we are totally evolved. God and Satan are reconciled as the Hymn has it. We are finally complete and at peace. The ‘peace that passeth all understanding.’ So, no, don’t bring your shadow to the public square, please, learn to reconcile it within yourself, that is evolution without harm to yourself or to others.
@@ALavin-en1kr The hymn is "God and sinner reconciled" not Satan.

And it seems there should be an aspect of Shadow that is good for us. Or at least essential even if it doesn't feel good.
In other words can our unconscious contain positive experiences that we forgot?
I'm gonna have to listen to this one a few times. Been feeling stuck in a pattern, and I'm wondering if it all originates from the shadow
Could it be your EGO that makes you stuck?
You will always get the same result with the same behavior.
If you want another result, you have to change your behavior...,you have to do something different..🙂
Why are you stuck?
Or what is making you stuck?
I'm all of it and none of it.... non-duality embraces all and enables one to hold the tensions between who we think we are and who we really are - I feel shame and no shame and every shade of grey on the shame scale. We are not here to be validated or not validated....
Non duality doesnt remove archetype issues and shadows. It requires transparent heart and willingness to look within. When we say its in us , the next is integrate it neither deny nor bypass it as done in non duality non sense.
So my understanding of a dream is like this: unconscious wanted to bury guilt with the cat symbol and stop wasting energy on repressing. Vulture supposed to end that by eating guilt and shame (a cat), by destroying the symbol ultimately. Unconscious asks her if she is ready to end that - when mother asks her what could have happened to the cat, she also gives clues that the cat is probably dead and eaten. Only way to do this is to admit that cat is dead and let go (orb). You can also make excuses by diverting attention to unimportant things and keep repressing the obvious. The cat may be a symbol of guilt and shame related to mother’s death in reality. Parent figures supposed to guide her through the whole process making her feel like they are ok with this.
Don’t take it serious, though. I’m just being creative here.
When I act like somebody, do I possess the quality ?

I wonder how experiencing tragedy/death/funerals at an early age could impact both the ego development and the shadow. I wonder because I had multiple family members die (grandparents, uncles, cousins), starting at 4-5 years old, up until I was about 10. As I've gotten older, I've been curious about what sort of impact it had without my being conscious of it.
My first thought was..,how do you connect with other people?
Do you connect with a partner on a really deep level?
Or do you keep it more on a surface-level?
Because if you only keep it on a surface-level and dont let other people really close to you...,I would say that is your way of trying to protecting yourself from grief and sad emotions...,but that you also expect that other people is going to leave you..
This could be ways that your childhood has had an impact on you and in your life..
What are your own thoughts on this topic?
Is late 20's too young to do shadow work? How to build the ego muscle to prepare for shadow work?
I love this podcast so much! Dream og becoming also a Jungian analyst! I am training as a transpersonal therapist which has a big component of Jungian analysis, and for a couple of years doing my own personal shadow work! Recently starting to decode it! The only thing is that I am almost 50 years old and most of your examples (in other podcasts) for some reason are about kids at university or high school which really is a far away period in most people's lives, so it feels a little decontextualized. I love what all of you, in your experience bring to the discussions as humans and now therapists and obviously what you may have encountered in therapeutic work but the university kids examples are not very interesting. Sorry, maybe it serves a purpose and I just do not get it! ❤

Parenting happens in the realm of duality:
they offer one value. They can not offer it’s opposite. They can only offer one, for example “be modest”. Once you chose one, you un-chose the other options.
Our lives trajectory is to find the other parts/options that have not been offered, evaluate them and then choose. Now we have choice.
We don’t even need to resent our parents, it feels powerless and like waisted energy.
I come here at 85. But not too late to learn.
I wonder how all these terms have become pop & trendy jargon all over the western world in all languages! Projection, inner child, shadow work, mirroring, narcisism, empathic, attachment, toxic, etc... everybody is now a psychologist... I wonder what you think about that...
Nowadays almost everybody has access to knowledge through Internet. And those topics aroused because people in the modern world feel trapped and started after blaming the outside world and nothing changed to work inside to be capable to live, rather than die. So, people want to feel better so they put their energy into healing unhealthy behaviours.
@@eyelovetheskyandthesea You are 100% right! Thank you for your answer.♥️♥️♥️
Instead of being judgmental and trying to portray these topics as something stupid..., educate yourself on these things and take a look at yourself instead.., because you have all of it inside yourself,- we all have it!
Every single human being on this earth have an inner child, - weather you like it or not.
The inner child is a part of that voice you have in your head..,and your inner child holds the feelings that hurts you most of all and that you want to avoid at any cost..!
The inner child is a part of YOUR voice in your head and your inner child have a big impact on how you treat yourself and how you treat other people.
When you start to talk to your inner child and stop ignorering that part of yourself...,that is when your life changes. I speak from experience. 🙂
PS: all the info you need or want is free of charge on the internet!
So there is actually no excuse,to be so uninformed or to have so little knowledge on these topics nowadays.
Everybody have a mobile,so you dont need a computer.
All you have to do is not use Facebook/Instagram/TikTok/Snap/OnlyFans/X/WhatsApp/Pinterest/UA-cam/etc..,for 1 hour and check out these things instead.
And if you have kids..,then you really should do this for your children.
Sometimes I would hear voices and panic and when I start to panic there's a female voice that would say "I'm just joking with you".
Hahaha, that's wild. I think that's the trickster archetype. Let me send you a video. There is a shadow side to that as well. Also have a conversation with that part of you too. See why it does that. 😊
I understand that the Jains leave their dead on elevated areas - where they are eaten by vultures etc. The completion - and continuation - of the cycle of life

I don't understand. I thought archetypes were those things that develop from the womb and early development that manifest in similar symbols worldwide. Yet Joseph says Shadow develops and consists of repressed items? Yet it is an archetype and/or a construct in the psyche. This seems contradictory to what I thought an archetype is, according to Jung.
my brother is a Jungian therapist. He is the most avoidant personality I have ever known. weird
Lol 😂 maybe he'd be EVEN WORSE of he weren't an analyst????!
..and what are you then?
Maybe he is just avoiding you?😏
Maybe he is different around other people..?
I assume you are not following him around 24/7,so how do you know how he is with other people?
What does your therapist brother have to say about you..?
Why dont you do some shadow-work on yourself instead and start a conversation with your inner child?
We all need to work on ourselves.
How do you know you’re not the dark twin, how do you know one is not a natural animal and the other a product of conditioning. What if there’s good and “” bad, and each one? You don’t know which one you are, though, lol
You’re projecting the fact of your darkness on to something else. Trust me, any bruising is on you, as was me is me whatever. Integration process trauma, Thruway of id with tempted projection.
Do you think Joseph gets thirst tweets for his voice 😅❔ sorry!
On a serious note, I ALWAYS question why someone is grating me the wrong way and it is ALWAYS something within me unresolved. Now, the rest of the world needs to do this and war would be abolished 👍🏻
What do you mean by "thirst" ?
