How To Drag Large Boulders By Car

  • Two boulder dragging success stories here. We thought there was a slim chance of this going smoothly. Either the boulder wouldn't stay on the sled, or the sled would break, or the lawn would get torn up. But no! This method of moving boulders is 100% legit. We usually like to avoid all modern machinery and do things totally by hand, just as a kind of hobby let's say. And I have proven manual tools and methods for moving large boulders great distances all by myself or with two people, but it takes time and we had too much else to do today. So modern dark magic to the rescue.
    Check out the videos where we pried these two boulders out of the ground with the kids using a special never-seen-elsewhere technique:

    Never attach a rope or strap to a ball hitch. If something comes, loose the ball hitch is now a canon ball. And the woman with the camera was walking behind directly in the line of fire. You should be using a shackle hitch receiver.

      More general tip for anyone reading: always inspect your ball hitch before using. If it somehow came loose with the small forces involved here, it would easily come loose on the highway towing something, which would have much more dire consequences.

    I didn't think those ropes would hold....great job.

      In hindsight I'm surprised too. I've graduated to chains now for such things. :)

    Lookup (Micro shaving, busting boulders with 22 cap.) That's a keeper though! For a rock too large to do anything with.

      LOL thanks for the idea never heard of it. :) First video I saw a guy got a casing fragment embedded in his hand lol but that rock disintegrated.

      @@AytwitEngineering YES I saw that too! Id us a metal plate with a hole then carpet or other over that. Got to be careful. They make pro units that discharge from a distance also.

      Thanks! Check out ua-cam.com/video/flwqPIP1ibk/v-deo.html and ua-cam.com/video/0u09F0mk3aQ/v-deo.html for manual options! Great channel man. You speak so naturally on camera. Ridiculous trails you made! I think your 4-wheeler will handle the boulders.

    can you tell me how much the boulders weigh for each one?

    • @AytwitEngineering
      @AytwitEngineering  3 роки тому +2

      Good question! For the first rock let's say it is about 180 pounds per cubic foot. The size of a box that could contain it would be about 3 feet by 2 feet by 2 foot, so 12 cubic feet. 12 times 180 equals 2160 pounds. Thus I'll say maybe 1000-1500 pounds for the final weight cause it's like a big apple shape. See www.reade.com/reade-resources/reference-educational/reade-reference-chart-particle-property-briefings/26-weight-per-cubic-foot-and-specific-gravity-metals-minerals-organics-inorganics-ceraqmics for weight per cubic foot for various types of rock.

      Second boulder was more towards the 1000 pound side.
