Great job on the piccup. I have the plans, and am completing the sail rig for a sailing canoe I am converting. I am sorely tempted to bang a piccup together too. I love the simplicity and versatility of this boat.
Paul, that's pretty funny about the TSCA. I just found out about them, so I may go over and take a look at the boats that will be there. I'll keep my mouth shut though. LOL. Ramps : Somers Point at JFK Park. This lets you sail all of the bay around the Garden State Parkway bridge. You will need an incoming tide though, as it can get shallow. West Atlantic City (Rt 40) : Lakes Bay. One of the best windsurfing spots, and the bay is huge, but a bit shallow. High tide is needed here.
Paul, are you going to be bringing this boat to the TSCA Messabout this coming weekend at Union Lake in Millville? I would love to see this boat in person, so if Millville isn't on your agenda, bring it to Margate or Ocean City one day, and put it to the test in the bay.
I like the shape of this boat a lot. I would go with more earth toned colors like hunter green and varnished wood but that bright color looks quite fine! I wouldn't do the mizzen sail as I would just like a single unstayed gaff sail up front.
I use the boat for extended week long trips. So it needs to be able to reef, and reef fast. The mizzen is more of a safety feature then anything intended for speed. I can sheet in the mizzen and point straight into the wind. With the jiffy reefs in the balanced lug I can reef in less then 30 seconds and be sailing again. I'm a huge fan of the yawl rig. It works great.
If you got the caulk from MAB, AKA Sherwin Williams, it is not paintable; they lie. The best paintable caulk I have used which is also Silicon based, is Alex Plus, from DAP. It really is paintable.
@doyle007 I did not know about the messabout. I was removed from the email list of the TSCA for being a loud mouthed liberal. lol. so i am not welcome there anymore from the powers that be. but I would love to put her in at margate or ocean city. do you know what a good ramp for me to use would be? please email me or respond back and I will set something up and you could come and take her for a sail if you wish.
jim michalak really is an amazing designer. I have his mixer 2 design and I love it.
Very nice little boat , good job !

Paul could you share the dimensions for the mizzen you added? She looks great, I hope mine will turn as well. Thanks

do we get to see it on the water??
Nice job, great details. I'm gonna steal your paint scheme. Why did you choose "Piccup" over "Piccup Squared"? Is that "boomkin" removable?
A dandy dinghy.
