Granted that tonight was not one of Ronaldo's best performances, but what this panel failed to mention is that he had absolutely no support up front in the match. Sir Alex was obviously playing with an uncharacteristic defensive mindset which did not let Ronaldo showcase his understanding of the game. And considering the "dives", every single time he went to ground there was some sort of physical contact, and not to critique the referee, but I will say that he protected Barca far more.

Messi is the best player in the world but it was alot easier for him tonight to show his talents cos he was given the ball on a plate for the whole first half. If ronaldo had been given that much ball the scoreline would have been different. Dunphy complained about ronaldos antics..if ronaldo hadnt been complaining..dunphy would be saying 'he went missing, he was afraid or didnt show an interest' either way ronaldo would have got slated by him due to his personal hatred for him

In my opinion i think Ronaldo should win it because he was the best player "LAST YEAR". I love football and have followed it for most of my life and loved to watch R9 on italian football saturday when he played Inter or Zidane playing for Juve or Real. Those guys possessed natural talent far beyond anyone i've seen. I don't know, your going round in circles here. I said ronaldo deserved last year because he played that extra bit better than everyone else.. even the god Messi.

It's not about Ronaldo scoring a lot of goals, because everyone knows he can score. It's about his attitude that rubs people the wrong way. He dives, cheats, begs the ref for cards, cries to the media about 'how everybody is against him' while most of the time he lets himself fall on the ground. Last match against Chelsea, he was on for 4 seconds before starting to grab and push Ballack. Ballack wrestles himself free and Cron waves him arms in the air begging for a card. That's a disgrace.
Someone said, "diving"? Why, Ronaldo can't even compare with the "great" Pippo Inzaghi! Yes, Ronaldo had an off night tonight - in my opinion, it was all because of the missed penalty early on. you are right it was the team that lifted portugal to the semi's, but Ronaldo was not the top scorer, he only scored one goal in the world cup, and penalties to decide a match at the end don't get counted as a goal.

doesnt matter how good he plays and how much he scores with his attitude and diving skills no1 will ever like him except the united fans. kids are meant to look up to the guy but he isnt a good influence. ive never heard negative comments on messi and kakas behaviours. messi is my favourite kaka isnt but i still like him cause he is good and a nice guy with a positive attitude.
Yeah, Kaka did an amazing job helping AC Milan to 5th place this year. Kaka couldn't tie Paul Scholes shoelaces, and was not even a scratch on Ronaldo this season.

I disagree.. us(fans of the game) are over-hyping him. Noone stood out on this night, and they always criticize Ronaldo.. why???? they said " he has FLAWS' EVERY SINGLE PLAYER IN THE WORLD HAS FLAWS!!! No matter who it is. Don't be blaming united for ronaldo's mental state, Ronaldo is a latin boy, he loves the hype and attention while players like rooney and scholes play football because it means alot to be sucessful to them. Ronaldo was magnificent last year but he soured me with the summer where it should of been a glorious one but it was the ronaldo show , thats disrespectful to his team mates and us supporters to keep us in limbo like that. He could be great but miles away from being a united great just yet.

This guy is a disgrace. It's ridiculous how the double standard is against players who aren't English when it comes to the Premiere League. Gerrard gets away with AWFUL diving all the time and doesn't get called out on it nearly as much as Ronaldo. He has a target on his back, and is getting hacked CONSTANTLY. Iniesta dived and complained about not getting fouls in this same match, but no one even comments on it.

i think ronaldo is a brilliant player under no obligation to act nice or by the rules but at the same time I buy the point that he's not an all time great just yet. He needs to dominate games more. But the again modern football is so tactical its impossible for an individual to be allowed stand out anymore.

he does show up 'in' big games.. all CL ames are big ones, and he stood out more than Rooney or any other United player. Although Scholes did great, he truly did not cause as much damage as Ronaldo.. A player could have a fl;awless game and not lose the ball and not miss any passes, but unless your passes are 'deadl'y and threatning ones, it doesn't matter. Ronaldo everytime he touched the ball looked like he was gunna create sumthing big.
k he scored game winners more than torres and drogba this season.. tha means more than anything.. every game counts, to win the title, or win the CL Cup. I agree with mohammertime, he is right. The fact is that Ronaldo is being hyped to be the greatest player in the world and he's so obviously not, that it has to be forcefully emphasised. Messi wasnt diving and throwing his arms in the air in disgust. Cause he's a proper player. Rooney is far and away a better all round player than Ronaldo

As a United fan, it was very frustrating to watch Ronaldo's little tantrums. He should have spent less time bitching, especially when he started it against our own players.
HOWEVER, did these guys miss the fact that Barca were playing horribly?? They played dirty, and every three minutes, Deco was on the floor, rolling around like a little bitch.

first of all.. being outplayed by Barca is untrue.. they had 65% control and possesion but didn't do shit with it.. therefore.. Barca's STAR TEAM .. noen of them showed up and produced.. where as the 35% that Man Utd had which is about 32 mins of the game, was pretty attacking and Ronaldo stood out when he got the ball.. 3 goals in 2 games vs Dynamo Kiev, 1 goal vs Roma... and Dynamo kiev he did stand otu alot.. Roma.. he had 1 game vs them and got injured, so I'd say he did well...

Zidane wasn't that good for the 3 years leading to his final world cup as part of the real madrid team that won nothing in its longest drought in half a century. He has previously admitted being doped up at Juventus. Zidane is a once in a generation player however, no doubt were judging ronaldo by the highest possible standards here when we use his name. Ronaldo is not close to finishing his career, there are many twists and turns yet.

There are many talented players out there that never became great beacuse some coaches/managers make them play so conservatively. Even Dunphy often makes the point that youth football would be better off without coaching. People from the slums of Brazil never learnt tactics and look how good they turned out as a nation. I do think the way a coach believes in playing a game often matters more than individuals, thats why 'great' individuals are a dimz a dozen, not 4 lack of talent like thou.
