In a way, the film was a critique on the act of Kamikaze. It was very culturally Japanese. You the the duty and honor in them. Very much a nationalist movie. So enjoyable. Also, we got to see how many times the hero fell.
No! it's not a Nationalistic movie. Godzilla is an allegory about the horrors of the atomic bomb regardless who drops it. Especially in these modern times when the WW3 is being discussed. And regarding the Kamikazi aspect; it's about the value of choosing Life. A lot of people who are not Japanese can relate to that.

Loved this movie! Only criticism is that that lever in the plane should not have been explained or told to the hero, the mechanic should have just told him it activated the bomb, and then tied the same escape lever to it. So that when the pilot/anguished hero would be surprised that he had been forgiven, redeemed when he pulled it. Would have been a great emotional moment. Otherwise, awesome!
The German air force also had a kamikaze attack! It's true! In 1944, German engineers made a pilot escape device for the first time in the world! That's true! In 1944, two Japanese submarines took a secret design from a German military port to a Japanese military port. This is true! we learned Japanese design of jet engine and V2 rocket, but I ended up in a test flight. I think there was also a pilot escape device!
