I miss diesel tech Ron .I learned so much about the 7.3 Rip Ron.
Does he have UA-cam vids still around?
@@FixItNick yes
Absolutely he does and still some of the most informative videos for 73 you'll find
that's very good work 👏 I remember 15 years ago when do the same thing on 2000 f250 7.3 still keeping my truck
That is a FAT exhaust! Sounds absolutely killer man! So good to finally hear that turbo!
Yes sir even tho 4” is better for this truck I love the 5” sound more
Why is 4 better?
@@Diesel_ftw I think it’s pretty negligible. 4 is easier to work with.
She looks so good and now she sounds so good, also. Congrats!
Thanks appreciate it
Sounds great mate, congratulations on a great job 👍
Thank you
Great video. Can't wait to do this to my son's 7.3.
That sounds awesome bro keep up the awesome videos
Thanks bro
I used to have a 2000 Ford F-250 7.3 power stroke 4x4 crew cab the pant job was blue jeans denim it looked beautiful, my dad bought it back in 03 when I was born and dul straight piped it, it was so loud.
Yea these are awesome!
Sweet sound man!
Great video nick
This is the only good install video. Thanks.
Dusty helped me out with my hydra. Great vid. I think i want a 4” soon.
I’ll upload 4” and 5” to hear the difference
FixItNick thanks nick. Add me on fb so we can chat about our trucks lol i have a 99 motor i am building to make 600hp
Love the sound!
Cut old pipe in 4-5 sections comes out easy. Start install with downpipe and continue install from there. Great video and exhaust!
I'm impressed...looks like quality stuff that fits right.
Yup my fav exhaust, I had MBRP before it was ok
@@FixItNick any sounf difference
Like the exhaust tip but think I want a Greta Grunberg “How dare you” decal on the tip.
Sounds real nice, good job 👍😎
Thanks man
I wish I had 5" pipe nature only gave me 3 inch.😮😌
That sounds great love an engine when it when it can just let it out , great video
Yes probably best sounding straight pipe trucks are 7.3s
I also removed the valve and put the power elbow on from banks where you started your exhaust . Covered it with stainless steal insulation so the Cal eco freaks could not tell..
Awesome Straight pipe and 5”!!!..Aloha 🤙🏽
Thanks
Yes the 5" does cool off too quickly for a almost stock 7.3 powers stroke a 5" starts becoming advantageous when you have stayed 3 injectors and are pushing 900 plus horsepower then you need the 5" to keep the EGT temperature down tomorrow I will post a video of my truck with the 4" exhaust Turbo back and the 6" tip
Yea 5” is honestly more than truck needs, I had a 4” before on an F250 7.3 and I love the 5” sound more even tho is prob hurts performance a bit
@@FixItNick I think it'll be ok not that big a deal.
That exhaust is nice
I just uploaded a video asking people if I should go with 4” or 5” and everyone convinced me to do 4” and now you made me want 5” cuz it sounds so good!😭😭😭😂😂 great video bro!
Thx man, 5” sounds better than 4” but with 5” I noticed MPG decreased a little because I think there is not enough back pressure, 5” is actually to big for our trucks unless you start doing turbo upgrades, injectors etc. BUT I still wanted the 5” cuz sounds little better than 4” ... Im gonna upload 4” and 5” difference in 1-2 days to hear the difference
You shouldn’t see any reduction in fuel mileage. 7.3’s don’t require backpressure. That’s the hole point of ditching the crappy 3.5” stock exhaust that isn’t mandrel bent tubing. Any differences from a 5” exhaust is only noticeable after 500+hp. Anything under that, it’s just louder. More than likely your mileage has decreased because your ear and foot are now best friends. Drive it normal and you will likely notice a small gain in mpg.
@@davidshelby4534 this has been my experience as well, back pressure between 4-5 is negligible considering downpipes are both 4 inch anyway.
@@davidshelby4534 So i’m thinking about straight piping my 7.3. is 4” or 5” better?
Sounds awesome 👍👍👍
Thanks man
Definitely louder sounds great
Sounds much better!
FYI, I cut my last section of pipe too close or basically I didn't leave enough sticking out and it soots up my back fender really bad. I learned from my mistake. Didn't want you to make the same mistake I did. Take care, stay safe and I enjoy your videos.
Thanks man, yea good point, I was thinking to dump it after rear end for testing purposes lol
You took it apart the hard way, I used a craftsman reciprocating saw and made 3 or 4 cuts and it came right out. Now you made the up pipe look easy, I wrestled with mine for hours and I hated that clamp. Question thou what was that thing just past the down pipe?? Will you need that for SMOG in Cali??
Well cutting 3-4 times I didn’t wanna do, my goal is to preserve it because like I said I live in CA lol and she sucks!!
Great video sir
In California they do a visual inspection on our diesel trucks. I remove my tuner and have the cat on mine. My s&b intake is carb compliant. You can either hollow out the cat or sandwich it over the new pipe so it looks like it has a cat.
Yes in CA it’s only fun for 2 years then you figure out plan B lol
Hay, where did you get that chain cutter that worked like a charm?
My goodness that sounds so good
Agree, 7.3 is a pretty sound with straight pipe
14:00 anyone realize a bolt missing??
I did. Figure it had to be out?
The further out the exhaust the more you will be able to hear it and also Fumes won’t stay under the truck when when your not moving
Nice brother I’m torn between the Afe exhaust and the diamond eye 🤦🏽♂️😂 but you making me lean towards the afe 🙌🏽
Get the mbrp. It sounds amazing and is super easy to install
Get the diamond eye in stainless
Love that turbo whine. What kind of interior resonance do you have with the straight pipes?
Think the saggy waggy did the trick or was it the twist and wiggle...🤣😂😂.. 5 inch sounds awesome Nick..... Well done with the installation buddy even though you had to sacrifice some extra time. 👍 That's dedication 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Thanks sir, yes proper tools always get the job done, don’t matter what you call them haha
How close is the new exhaust to your spare tire? I got the same one but it sits really close to my spare and worries me a bit. You have any advise on this or how to get a little more space between the 2?
Sounds bad ass dude
Thanks I can’t drive it normal now lol
You should cut the extra pipe inside the tip, the tip adds a deeper tone but not with the pipe going to the end of the tip.
Yes I was going to cut after I decide exactly how I want tip to be
New tow mirrors are a must now!
Yes I agree lol
Do they have a cab and chassis version of this system? I have a 99 f450 that I wanna do this to
“Just gotta give it a good wiggle” 🤣
Why isn't your sway bar hooked up?
It’s called sway bar disconnected for off-roading lol
Not sure what engine mods you have. I have a Gtp38r with the stock .84ar housing and its incredible lots of low end torque perfect for the 6 speed.
my current 7.3 idi i know its old school but its got a aftermarket turbo and a 3" straight piped still not as loud as my dads used to be he had a cherry bomb on his but i'd lose some power with that.
Man it's weird seeing the same underside as i work on but your truck has never lived on gravel, your truck looks mint under there. i built my own straight 4" and i mean no curves too. side dump.
Dang, it would be fun to build custom one for fun
it sounds very good, it rushes the sound of the turbo more ... in my opinion it would look good with the polished wheels and the bumpers ...regards
Thanks, yes I want to upgrade wheels when can afford them 20s lol
I Dig your Vids Nick, Great Stuff! I went with F550 HD Leaf Springs, a 3” Wulf Suspension Block lift to get a set of 315/60R20 (35x12.50) Toyo Open Country RTs on Fuel D574 Rims w/4.5” Gap, 225mm offset, for my 02’ F350 DRW. Leveled it right up when hooked up to my 5th wheel Toy Hauler, cuz it was saggin quite a bit. Keep up the Great Work, I’m learning a lot from You
If you use a medium sized pair of channel locks it will get the rubber hangers off a lot easier
Thx, will try next time :)
I went the Banks exhaust on my 7.3. Went in like OEM.
How do you like it? Thinking of getting one.
@@vladmirputin7139 I like Banks cost a little but went in easy.
Man. I'm missing the hanger for the axle section. Anyone know if there's a solution on amazon?
Very nice video. I was laughing at you a little cause a extra set of hands would have made it a lot easier for ya, but a great job!
Sounds MEAN!👍👍👍
Yes indeed I love it
The Mirrors on the truck obviously are the older super duty tow mirrors get the square ones of the 2008-2016 model years also the 1999-2016 model years have the same bolt patterns so you can take the front clip off a 2016 and bolt it on a 2001 and it will fit perfectly
What front clip? Nose conversion? Needs custom brackets to do swap to 16 nose. I want new tow mirrors also lol
Coby Sanderson everything from 1999-2016 is interchangeable with slight modifications such as different brackets. There is a guy who puts full 6.7 interiors into 7.3 trucks and he just has to change dashboard mounts and similar stuff.
Raceboy5512YT that’s what I was saying
Can you send me the link of the same exhaust you bought it won’t pop up on the link you posted for the 7.3 afe exhaust ?
If you are ever struggling with a stuck v-band clamp, an air chisel with a blunt tip will free it up.
Hi can you give me the Exhaust Model Typ Nr? Thanks best Regards Andy
For optimal tip sound, you have to cut the 5" as close as you can to where the tip mounts. No need for a huge tip if the 5" goes through it. Lol.
Where did you get exhaust from?? And how much did you pay for it?? Thanks
nice vid. you said you live in Cali...... so do I and I have to smog my 6.0 every two years, and they do a visual for a catalytic converter. any thought?
Keep your stock system and reinstall it when the time comes
Yea that’s why I’m keeping my stock exhaust if ever need it
What size tires you got on it
looks and sounds great! im not from Cali, will it pass smog test without cats?
I’ll find out in 2 years I guess haha
It won’t pass smog if your sticker under the hood says catalyst.
Less coal rolled w the strait pipe??
The Truck Sounds Good. Keep the Old Exhaust always..
Yes
I took the stock muffler off on my 7.3 and it sounds just like yours. Glad I didn’t buy a new exhaust system😂
Exactly what I was saying lol
Brayden Andrus no you got to hear it in person there is a noticeable difference
@@22KINGCOOL exactly. Stock straight sounds good. But it's missing the choppy sound the 4" and 5" give it
Hey what tool was that you used to cut the exhaust so you could get that pipe out seemed to work like a charm👌
Pretty crazy but it’s called a Pipe cutter
Bout time!!!!
Sorry! Lol
Wood spacers... pretty smart my dude
Thx man, beats having a helper lol
Do the small prices get added or not added by your truck size? My truck is a 2002 f250 extended cab short bed so will it still fit without cutting up the new exhaust
I only had to trim the tip a bit and everything else was fine
So would I have to cut it to fit it into a extended cab short bed
I have AFE diff covers on my Ford didnt know AFE made exhaust
I didn’t know they made coves lol
@@FixItNick first things AFE ever made was differential covers and cold air intakes
U need to do a exhaust back pressure valve delete. Or called warm up valve.
Adam Esterlund no need to delete if it isnt acting up. if he tows he will need it, that valve is where you engine braking comes from. not to mention faster warm up when its cold out.
Good video! Get some 05-07 one piece headlights!
I actually want to do 2016 nose swap
I really think the 99-2003 look better than the newer ones with the Harley 1 pc lights and painted grille and bumper
Wish I could send you a picture of my 2000 F350
Hey it song to my ears
Me too lol
Great content! Perhaps you should follow on the steps of CrisFix - he cuts to the chase and his editing is on point. I like your videos but they could be cut in half.
Yea I agree this vid is a bit long, I been trying to make my new vids shorter and better, and in fact I was thinking to redo this video, thanks for heads up
Also it would be nice to look into twin turbos for dual exhaust at least in my opinion better boost too. If you like this set up 😁
Edit. Hmm it seems not man y people have attempted a twin turbo dual exhaust on a 7.3.. has anyone yet??
There's almost no room for twin turbo
M H there not much room on a trans am but people somehow managed to do it
Very interested in this. I have a system sitting in a box waiting to go in...
4 or 5” ? Hope this vid helps you with install
@@FixItNick 4" Magnaflow
I’d love to have that truck
Buy one?
FixItNick use to own one. They are getting very hard to find around the south east.
Badass MF whistle! Man that’s awesome Nick!
Thank you, MPG testing I quit lol
Best get some mud flaps for the rear. Or that black tip gonna be chipped fast
Brayden Stanley high heat ppf
I still want to buy the Truck but the Torsion Bar Arms look like they don't have bolts. lol
Yeah man I saw it too good eye 👁👁😁😂
The sway bar links? Torsion bars are for chevys.
Yes I disconnected away bars for off-roading lol
You really dont need them on these trucks. They are still I notice no difference on mine at all

i wish i can do this. in CA. D:
U can do a mpg test. But with wut lil u have done it mite hurt u. The 4 inch would have been perfect and got better fuel economy, and please don't put a bigger tip on it. Leave it at 6inch
I read somewhere 4" is better for the 7.3. Than 5" . There's math and science behind it. Said with the 5" the exhaust cools off too quick, resulting in power loss
Yes 5” is to much I agree, but I love the sounds little better than 4” .... I guess I have to turbo and inject her haha
I run stage one and a 1/2 full force injectors and AGT38R ball bearing Turbo and it's perfect for what I do along with the Hydra tune the fuel bill Martin the forage exhaust
The obsession has begun... now time for some tunes 😎
Tell me about it!!!
wooo exelent

Will you heatwrap it at some point?
Bro when are you going to connect your sway bar link?
Jacob Mouton haha, I disconnected it for off-roading, or when I find bolts
Minten516 I was thinking yes
Some how I believe this is a repost from many years ago, but I could be wrong. I hope I am. You're better off with the 5" pipe, I know some people said 4" is good enough and it cools off to quick but No. I have a 2001 7.3 I bought new and I put a Banks 4" down pipe connected to a Hypermax 5" on it a year later. Even when it was stock that 5" pipe helped get rid of the heat. HEAT KILLS... And you will be very happy when you start putting more upgrades in it. Get a boost gage and pyrometer first. Without details Now I have injectors, afe intake, tunes, forged rods,. Ceramic coated mahle pistons, arp head studs, Hypermax intercooler, air intake, Large turbo, and complete upgraded Tran and torque converter. And more. Your 5" is just fine!! Enjoy the sound.
Why was your swaybar disconnected?
It’s connected now :))
Eres el mejor
Dude. The ole girl sounds. BAD ASS!!!!!!!!!
Buen video
Thank you
And saves diesel as well as sounds cool .
It saves Diesel?
@@FixItNick yup i got three mpg increase.
@@FixItNick if you can stop spooling the turbo .I know it's hard not to lol.
Alan Armstrong dude it’s impossible to not enjoy that stupid turbo sound haha especIally with a manual
@@FixItNick woot woot.
How did you get a 5" pipe from the turbo down? Was there enough room between the firewall and the pipe? Not sure if yours had a heat shield but without mine, can heat did go up.
Yea downpipe is 4” cuz 5” will not fit, will hit everything lol
7.3’s are the way to go if you want a powerstroke. Also that 7.3 purrs like a kitten nice truck. A 7.3 power stroke is on my bucket list for a second car/truck I probably wouldn’t daily drive one but it would be a good work truck. If I had one I would do something similar like what you did on your truck.
Ben Fink
Yes sir.
I have a 2002 F350 Lariat SRW crew long bed in 4x4 with 6” suspension lift.
134k miles.
4” straight pipe
AFE CAI
Hydra chip
Full Force Diesel Single shot 180cc injectors
And gauges
Best truck I ever owned
PERIOD!!!
@jayonez 13 Sounds like you got the truck of all trucks I’m jealous that is something I would probably do if I have enough money how much did it cost for your build?
Ben Fink
I was around $20k
Smoked my Trans back in
Feb 2019.
$6000 for trans build with some billet upgrades and new rear main seal
I am now at $26k.
But in my mind still more reliable and cheaper than a newer 6.7.
What’s really going to hurt is next year I have to pull the engine and do the oil pan.
Oil pan Is shot.
When I pull the engine I’ll do some other stuff.
New exhaust manifolds
38R turbo
And bellowed up pipes.
I will be at around $30K after that.
Then I will be done for while.
jayonez 13 yeah you should probably slow down when you spend money on your truck. But hey like you said at least it’s cheaper then a new Powerstroke. Also what kind of engine you got in your truck?
Ben Fink
🤔
7.3L dude.
I said in my OP that it’s a 2002.
And I really don’t understand what you mean when you say I should probably slow down when I spend money on my truck.
I really don’t know what that means.
Working on my truck is basically A hobby of mine.
When things break I fix them.
If you don’t fix and Maintain things you will not have a reliable truck.
This Truck is not a daily driver Although it could be.
I have a company truck that I take home. My 7.3L is my weekend Hunting/fishing/camping/racing truck.
It hauls my 39’ RV all over the place.
It hauls my race trailer.
At a moments notice I could sell it and pretty much get back 95-100% of my investment.
I’ve been offered $30k cash for it from friends.
My Mechanic Harasses me to sell it to him all the time.
I had strangers following me into gas stations and parking lots to inquire about it all the time.
Not that I would ever sell it.
What size is your down pipe
Downpipe 4” is biggest that will fit there
Wonder if they would help me I need custom exhaust for my v10
@rcwildman123 I would love my v10 to sound just like that love the aggression
@rcwildman123 I want my exhaust to come out on both side right next to the tow hitch one on each side of the tow hitch is there any way I can email you and get some info from you on the things you got for your exhaust mine will be running Gibson headers like what size pipe you used thanks for your time wildman and information
@rcwildman123 what high performance cat did you use and did you keep it a 3 inch pipe and do you have the exact info on the flowmaster super 10 muffler style you used
They only do diesel trucks but I’m sure they can still get stuff for V10s
@@FixItNick if they only do diesels probably not
Now all you need is a tuner
I liked
Thanks
