    Beautiful canoe !!! If I can make a suggestion, it might've been a good idea to test the position by clamping the yoke with a few c-clamps and testing different balance points before drilling. But nice work, young man.

    Very nice! Will be in the water soon. You can draw half a template and then flip it to get two identical sides.

      Tom's Dreamshop Worx thanks! Yeah should be ready soon - the last couple videos are taking a while to write cause there's so many weird details. I thought about the half template mirror thing but I wanted to adjust my curves as I was drawing and it was hard to visualize the whole yoke by only drawing half of that makes sense. If I would have had a sample yoke I probably would have gone with your idea. Thanks for the comment!!!

    Quick question.
    Can you stain the cedar planks(Before all the glue and epoxy) to get darker and lighter planks to create a pattern? If this isn't an option, what wood would you recommend I use along with the cedar to make my canoe look more appealing ?

      hp23 hp23 I wouldn't try to stain them cause you have to sand it down after it's built and that would discolor it further. You can pretty much use anything for decorative strips - I used walnut and white ash.

      Thanks!
      The fact that you replied within 10 minutes just shows how dedicated you are to your channel and viewers. Now it's time to start hunting for wood on craigslist again :)

    Nice looking canoe ! What design is it, if I may ask ?

      Jim Dodd thanks Jim! It's a 15" bobs special. It's a little small as far as two person canoes go but it's about as big as I can fit in my garage. Do you have a go to design? I'm assuming you've done many different ones

      Yeah. I've built, and still have a lot of strippers. I really like solo boats, as I can go any time "I" want to.
      As for a design, North West Canoe has several, that you can download for free. Dennis at NWC, is a great guy. Most of mine I've modified over the years, but Dennis has some good ones. Keep up the great work. But PLEASE ! don't take a sledge hammer to this one !

      Jim Dodd haha thanks Jim! Appreciate the info! I'd like to do a solo in the future cause it would be nice to just go whenever I want to. It's always nice hearing from other boat builders and yeah not planning on destroying this one! It was fun but def a one time thing😅

      Really thinking about building one. I had everything planned out years ago to make one.. Then had to move from Washington to Oregon. Now I have got a new house with a shop I'm putting together as a wood shop only! Have a garage for "Garage ". So hopefully I will have my wood shop together soon... My first real project I want to be my cedar strip canoe. I really liked you series, it was really informative and explained things... Thanks Ray

      OrygonBowhunter right on - I’m in Oregon too (Medford). If you’re ever down here let me know and we could meet up and talk shop

      Medford, interesting. I live in Klamath Falls. My son lives in Medford. when you made your strongback did you have any problems with making and keeping it level? Living over here we have big swings in humidity, would it be better to use OSB board or plywood to use on the strongback frame?

      @AGuyDoingStuffAdam  7 років тому

      OrygonBowhunter I didn’t have any issues w my strongback - you can see in the videos I kind of made a big narrow box. I’d def use plywood just to be safe
