Another thing i been thinking about. I would not put it past Duke of having these stories being planted in friendly contacts in the news media about Tommy being a puppet of Rocky . Fueling his frustrations and inner demons
It foreshadows that Duke has found the perfect person to manipulate and use this person to mess with Rocky since Union Cane is not that angry like Tommy Gunn. It’s like Duke as Palpatine, Union Cane as Count Dooku, Tommy Gunn as Anakin Skywalker and Rocky as Obi Wan Kenobi. I understand him as well. The press and the media in this film really don't get the criticisms they deserve. Theyre the real villains along with Duke. They're the ones to blame for putting out things about how Tommy is just Rockys 'robot' or 'clone' and making out like he's stuck in Rockys shadow. It's easy to see why Tommy wanted to break away and fight for the title to prove he's not just Rockys robot. And the press and interviewers at the post fight conference were extremely unfair to Tommy for his quick win over Caine. Tommy didn't chose who to fight for the title. Caine was the guy who held the title at the time. You can only fight who's in front of you. And how they said he's nothing like Rocky made it so much worse.
