Buying a Semi Load of Small Square Bale Hay/Deer Season Has Arrived in Minnesota

- With the drought in Minnesota, our hay fields suffered, and we were unable to make a single small square bale. We obviously need small squares of hay, so we decided to purchase a semi-load of hay from Leffingwell Farms in Wannamingo, Minnesota. Our hay was brought up on October 20th. The weather made a sudden change though, and we ended up getting over 10 inches of rain this fall. There was no way that we could get the hay unloaded and in the haymow in between rain showers, so our neighbor let us store the hay in his old free-stall barn. We were even able to have a friend help load and unload the hay with their payloader. Come the beginning of November, we were able to get the hay brought home and in the barn. With the coming of November, it also meant the start of deer season in Minnesota. Justin got his first deer this year, and Jen got herself a buck that wasn't the prettiest.

Trinity Dairy was established in 2006, in Minnesota. Alan and Jennifer farm with their 5 children; Jessica, Justin, Jordan, Joshua, and Jason. We milk a mix of 33 Jersey, Holstein, Brown Swiss, Guernsey, and Ayrshire cattle. We also enjoy sharing our family's love of Draft Horses and using them for logging and other farm work. Dairy Farming in Minnesota can be challenging, but it's a lifestyle we really enjoy. Subscribe today to watch our small family dairy farm and family grow while continuing to thank our Lord for the blessings we've been given.
Congratulations On Justin's First Deer. Many More To Come Blessings and Please Be Safe ✌️
Watching your boys tossing bales around reminded me of when I was their age. A bully tried picking a fight with me, and I kept telling him I did not want to fight. He would not stop. I literally picked him up off the ground, threw him down and landed on him. Neither him or any other bully wanted to fight after that. Moral of the story, do not pick a fight with a farm boy. We lift weights daily. I was throwing bales of hay and straw around before I even learned how to ride a bike.
Good for you. Looks can be so deceiving.
I heard of a KY HS football team that kept winning championships. The coach didn't have much money for fancy training, so he got all the non farming kids to agree to work as hay labor for local farmers. Other teams would wear down during the game, but those players never got tired. 60 minutes of game time was nothing compared to 8 hours of hay time!
Pretty slick how that hay was unloaded. Good to have the resources of good neighbors nearby. Be safe out in the hunting lands.
What a nice baling crew.
Congratulations to your wife getting her deer Alan
Looks like some nice hay. Good feeling to get that all mowed away for the winter.
Good to see you folks back again back on! Praying for you as you're dealing with the loss of your grandfather
Sweet truck..... Nice looking hay... This was the first year I've never got small squares either... Pray'n for rain this next June....We'll all make it though....Thanks Allan.
The boys are getting bigger, and will soon be good help with bales.
I love seeing you're boys working on the farm, it's like a breath of fresh air. Farm life is a character building culture........❤
I love your channel and congratulations on those deer. That will be some very good eating.
It's good to have great neighbors. Looks like the ladies are 1 up on the boys😉. Be safe and God bless
Awesome on the deer congratulations
Thank you for sharing. Hay looked awesome! Bet it smells good too. Your boys are tough, looking young men. They did helped pretty good. Please give then a high five. Congratulations on the successful Deer season too. Summer sausage and chili...Its good to hear that there are still neighbors out there who still help out neighbors!!
Thanx for the video,, bought another hoodie and winter hat😊😊😊 from your store,, I’m watching this close to thanksgiving,, god bless to you all
Thank you!
Nice to see young'ns outside instead of sitting around with a phone stuck in their face. Those deer are gonna make some mighty fine eating, Y'all have a good one now.
And I can’t get my kids to clean their rooms. 😂 Congrats on the deer. Rifle starts Saturday here in PA.
Way to go kids on your deers. 🦌 A lot of Deer meat and jerky. Blessings ❤
Wet weather in late fall always a pain nothing drys up in short days and weak sun.
Good buck and good food. Congratulations.
Glad you were able to get the hay home and your kids look like very good and willing helpers. That is such a wonderful thing. And I have a feeling, they would like to try to do more than is good for them, but it is obvious that you have a good handle on what is enough.
Very nice job and God bless y'all All
Congrats on your deer harvest that will make for great dinners.
I remember how tired we would get putting in hay. I helped the neighbor and my grandfather and at home.
That looks like some really nice hay!
Nice looking bales Alan
We saw the family in the parade last night.
Another very interesting video Thank you 😊😊😊😊
Congrats on your deer hunt. Also enjoyed your video
Nice looking hay. Have a Blessed Thanksgiving. God Bless
Congrats on the hunt, First deer is a Big deal! That hay came from 28 miles North of me.
It's greatly appreciated about the birdie message! I told Ray that Paul looked concerned with all the strings and directions they were going in! Hopefully for both you and everyone including us that a bit more rain comes. Congrats on the deer kill
Great video have a great holiday
That's the way to put hay in, when it's cool and no sweating!!
You are very fortunate to have plenty of corn sileage .
With the price of hay ( $275 per ton) and high grain prices, if you had to purchase corn sileage or feed an all hay forage ( $275 per ton).... milk price would have to be WAAAAAY higher.
The cows should chow that down, looks like some high octane hay.
👀🙄🐾👍Great video A&J
Great video, nice to see Jen & Justin got their deer already.😊
Looks like you've got lots of room in the hay loft.
Once upon a time, the US $ was so good that it made sense to buy some great Canadian Alfalfa in big square bales rather than growing the stuff here, and I bought a few truckloads of it. Cows ate it like candy and milked well on it. Y'all are doing a great job, and I hope you can squeeze (😂) the most value from the hay! Great video 👍
Great video Alan
Awsome video as always.
good stuff, country folk doing awesome country folk stuff, i'll see you in the next one.
Glad to see you got some hay. I was thinking you hadn’t done a square bale video. Thank God y’all getting rain.
Congratulations Justin
Is always fun watching your content. Those of us that are small farmers need to use maximum ingenuity to get the job done, usually not with nice new equipment and we need to be good at keeping it running. Nick, North West Farmer (Oregon)
Great video, also congratulations on the deer 🦌 you and your family have taken, backstraps should taste awesome
Love the square bales but sadly most do not do it around here anymore as big equipment has taken over. When my father was a kid which was 60+ years ago the farm he was raised at did somewhere between 25k-28k squares a year, no kicker an were all piled in the barn. They also hand raked the back swath. Keep up the great work stay safe. 😊 awesome deer ❤
Glad the hay worked out
Nice hay... glad you all got some venison... lord knows you been feeding em enough
Nice meal for the freezer
Hello Alan and family, still love your videos. I've never missed one and you had some good content today with the hey with the hay and putting it up in the hayloft and I was thinking to myself as I was watching you guys do that. You got a lot of room in that hayla for a lot more. Hey, why don't you feel her up? I want to wish you and your family a happy Thanksgiving which is coming up this coming week. Not sure if you have a video out this week since the holiday is on Thursday but if you don't that's okay but we haven't had much for rain here in Central Minnesota. You guys ain't that much further away than I am in. Lucky that you guys even getting it. We haven't gotten hardly anything.
They used to fill it to the peak, but that put a pretty good sway in it floor, so I don't like to go over about half full.
Hey Allen. Good to hear all is going well. Hay in the barn is money in the bank. Are you cobbing any corn this year?
We did a little for a neighbor, but that was it.
Jen you can't eat the horns🤣🤣
I am wondering since you guys have a lot of cornsilage and hay were do the cows get there proteïne from ,overhere in the netherlands we cut grassilage every 4weeks so that is our proteïne source and still we have to buy some extra which is very expensive anyways thanks for the video and have a good day greetings from a Dutch dairyfarmer
We feed a grain mix also, for extra protein.
Congrats on getting your venison anyway
Dont you mean was a fighter...😅
❤ 🚜
can you stack squares all the way to top in that barn good looking barb nice to have good neighbours
They used to fill it to the peak, but the floor was getting a pretty good sway in it, so we don't do that anymore.
Aí fez muita seca ,aqui no sul do Brasil 🇧🇷 muita chuva não conseguem plantar a soja .
You don't realize how much work kids do until you have to.domit yourself. Looks like good feed. How abouta video on the feed you will be feeding the cows this weekend.
Ugg winter I meant
Just hope the meat on that buck is not as tough as he was fighting with his antlers.
Hey, how do you figure how much hay the mow floor can support? I've always wondered that. I guess maybe some people have been loading it up for years so know by many years of experience.
We use to fill this one, all the way to the peak, but the floor is getting a pretty good sway in it, so now we don't go over half full.
Thanks@@trinitydairy
Hello, how much does such a small bundle of hay cost? greetings from Germany
We bought this hay by the ton, and it was $275, a ton.
If i may ask, what did it cost per ton?
275 a ton.
Does your neighbor have hay for sale?
I think he's sold out .
👍👌♥️🇨🇦
It's about time you get those little farm things to work and make them pay off that tractor you bought for them
The amount of work those kids, do around here everyday, more than pays for that tractor.
Nice hay
