I switched from my DIY mobile miter saw stand to this miter saw station built out of modular garage cabinets. The added shop storage and organization is a huge benefit and now I actually save some space in my workshop. Woodworking projects need a lot of room to build sometimes and clearing out that footprint in my shop gives me some valuable project area or a place to add more tools.

I built these cabinets several years ago. I am now removing all of them from the wall to install the ez levelers and remove the bolts for adjustments. Sooo much better. I am removing the middle cabinet to install a shelf for the miter saw. I have to say, I have loved everything, but the bolt levelers, about these cabinets since I found your plans.
Well you certainly are precise and specific. Maybe that's why your projects and workshop always looks so good. Mine...um...not so much. Someday I'll have patience. I can't wait. 😅
Just a thought....might have been a possibility to install the wall outlet 'below' the shelf to keep the cord entanglements to a minimum. While you're there just continue the wall board cutout down the wall and install another outlet above the countertop to the right side of the miter saw? Great video and thanks for the ideas!
My Snapmaker just arrived, it's a 3D printer, laser etcher, and CNC machine all rolled into one. So I would for sure be interested in any 3D printing you might feature.
That sounds crazy!
@@Fixthisbuildthat It is a very cool machine, I will be posting a video featuring it this Thursday!
been using 3d printed adapters for my shop vac dust collection for about a year. Works fantastic.
Great to hear!
Hello Fellow Saw Duster, I have seen some of your project vids and I like your style.
However, with this project, an AWESOME workbench, I wonder why you chose to permanently install your Miter Saw.
It seems to me that if your workbench could accept multiple, mobile tool stands like the one your miter saw was on to begin with, your workbench could be even more awesome.
These mobile tool stands could have flippable tops and hold tools like jointers, routers and planers that would benefit from your workbench's excellent fencing system & work piece support.
The tool stands need to fit into the workbench and require stabilization during use, but that could be easily done.
An easy way to stabilize the tool stands might be to add multiple heavy duty drawer guides to your workbench and have matching hardware on each of the tool stands. That way, when you need to swap tools, you can just slide one out and slide another one in.
THANKS AGAIN for your GREAT content! It all makes me want to make more saw dust!
I'm in the process of creating a vid about my miter saw dust collection shroud and combing through YT to see how other Makers are building their stations. As always, Brad, great presentation and beautiful work! Thanks for sharing!
I’m rewatching this as I’m finally setting out to do my miter saw station and I have loved your set up ever since you shared it. Also while watching this, seeing your stop block made me think “tell me you’re an engineer without telling me you’re an engineer”…Brad, “here’s my stop block”. 😂
I modified my build of your Miter Saw Station. Instead of putting the cleats in with a shelf, I built a cart to allow me to roll the Miter Saw in that is level with the station. I will be making another cart for my Kreg router table. If I get a the DeWalt Plainer, I'll do the same. By making carts for these machines that are level with the station, I can take more advantage of this large work space. I didn't put cabinets or drawers below my miter station in order to store my rolling work bench on one side. The other side I store my pancake compressor. Your build is great and offers a great deal of versatility.
Looks great I bought plans for the mobile station but am thinking of doing the inset t-track stop from this build
that'd be a great option too! One reason I do like the physical fence though is that it lets me use a 10" spacer to get cuts under 13" where the stop block can't reach
I’ve got 4 different 3D printers. 2 FDM and 2 Resin. I’ve printed things like pegboard hooks, socket wrench organizers, paper towel holders, magnetized label plates for drawers, threaded fastener size/gage testers... finding stuff is easy. Modeling something you can’t find is a bit more difficult in my opinion and I would love to see that.
yes, the modeling is a challenge, but rewarding!
Dude. I'm usually pretty quick. But Your explanation is so captivating. The "shocking" caught up to my brain like 3 seconds later. You crazy 🤣🤣🤣 always a pleasure watching your vids. They give me inspiration and motivation for my flooring channel. (Which is how I found you). Alright bro catch ya on the next one👍
The slow burn jokes are the best :) Glad you're digging the content!
The T-track with a stop-block, what a genious idea !
you should buy the bosch 12" dual bevel sliding miter saw. it should fit in your opening. highly recommend it!
if I was going to go with a slider I would probably do that one
dude your cuts are so clean. I have some learning to do. It's hard to fight splintering on my cuts.
That stop lock track is low key impressive!
Nice timing! I just finished my mobile miter saw stand based heavily on your plans (Drew Fisher's ideas are mixed in there too.) I guess it is time for a bonfire!
I jammed a vacuum and a Dust Deputy into the back of the cabinet.
I love the idea of the seperator but it just kills performance too much for my liking
I've been thinking about a 3D printer so I'd love to hear about yours and see how the process works. Thanks for the vid!
thanks for the feedback!
Awesome work, Brad! One of these days I might get a miter saw...but until then...I'm still on the Four Eyes team. "Big Miter" cant recover from their last video hahaha
😂 😂 😂 My alternate title was Chris Salamone is Wrong
Nicely done.
Love the level of detail, and your aversion to dust....SUBSCRIBED!!!
Nice! My miter saw station uses a vertical stop block and I hate it. It's always getting hung up. Going to make a new one with the t-track in the countertop like this.
Hey Brad, nice addition to the shop. I'm planning to do something similar soon. I have a question about your dust collection: Do you have a bag in the shop vac? How often do you empty vac, or clean it out? I was thinking about putting a separator under the counter space but I know that it will take up valuable space.
Thanks, Josh
Hey, Josh. I run a bag and a Hepa filter in there. I switch it out like every 6 months or so. A separator would be nice if I had the space, though it does reduce performance
Brad, great video! Have loved your content. A tip for drywall that was shared to me: Use a sawzall, take old/used blade and snap them short so that the length of the exposed/cutting blade from the surface stop plate is the depth of the drywall gyp (1/2 inch usually, 5/8 for type X). That way you can't cut past the back of the drywall and can make an easy continuous cut. Hope this helps!
His way is how I do it and I’ve done over 10,000 repairs so his way actually works really well.
I've done what you did to my garage wall 25 yrs ago. The next time I needed to add receptacles I opted to use molded conduit. You use extended boxes and attach the conduit between them., Doesn't look bad either.
just rewatching this after being in my space more and I wonder if you can address why you chose to subsurface mount the t-track instead of a fence? Now that you've had this installed for a few years, what changes have you made or would want to make?
Always amazing work, Brad!
That was amazing what you printed. Please show that process. Very cool 😎
Hi how did the original inspection get through as putting cables across studs and the putting a pasteboard sheet on is not only dangerous but illegal in case someone puts a nail or screw through the pasteboard and straight into the cable. You did your extension correctly but looking at the cables that had been put them would worry me a lot and I would have probably taken the plasterboard off and redo his work. I hope you and your family have a great Christmas and hopefully an even better New Year
Well done!
nice build!
just a suggestion, make a few more flip stops. that way you could "save" measurements on a big project with lots of different cuts
I typically cut all my boards the same length at same time 👍
I stumbled upon your channel by accident a while ago. You’re so good a producing content while simply explaining why it is what you’re doing. I’ve always been pretty decent with my hands and have been wanting to expand my woodworking skills for a really long time now, but I live in an apartment and don’t have any space to do such things. Been living vicariously through your content. 🤣 Any chance you could do a video on building a garden arbor? Wanting to build one for my wedding this summer.
I just started learning how to route dados with that same router. Holy cow the dust is out of control!
yes, it's insane
Hi there - lovely work and build. Great delivery too! I am in the process of setting up my shop and envision something similar to take my miter / planer and joiner. Can you share how you square the saw fence to the counters? Thank you for your time. Regards, TL
I hate dust too, but sucking up a big pile of it is another level of zen!
Yeah, had to leave that shot in there unencumbered by voice over 😀
Hey Brad
Wanted to reach to tell you I enjoy your channel and look forward to the next bid.
Your process of your projects is real. Like the rest of us, you make mistakes.
Then you find workarounds....
just like the rest of us.
I like that and how you acknowledge woodworking is a blood sport no matter how careful we are! keep the vids coming.
I put my miter saw on a drawer slider shelf so that it could pull out a bit more than the cabinet depth, not sure if that would work for you.
Very nice saw station beautiful!
Thanks!
I would love to see more about 3D printing!....Maybe a 3D printing and Epoxy resin project!
That sounds fun!
This is great! I'd love to have the shop space to do that long of countertop space for a miter saw area. I was also thinking that keeping (and possibly needing to lower) your cart without the wings, and just sliding in between the cabinets would be pretty cool too.
A man who admits his mistakes is a man that is well respected.Great job.
Perfect upgrade to the shop - would love to see more 3D printing maybe even how you designed the dust collector connector for the miter saw - as you say there is NO common sizing which is a pain
thanks for the feedback!
I like that you made your own stop block! Care to share your thoughts about not putting a track on the right?
I literally never used the stop block on the right side of my mobile cart, so decided to just kill it
Despite being right handed, I almost always use the right so I was curious.
Hey Brad, what are your plans for the old mobile miter stand? (I’d like to see some woodworking jig builds from the 3D printer)
Undecided at the moment as I have a few things in the works. But yes, 3D printed jigs is a great idea
Nice job ! I was just watching your video again, how come you didn’t use your old stop block off your old station? I need one of those it looks nice I love ypur shop
do you think there could have been a way to integrate the mobile unit into the wall design as a way to pull it out from the wall and have the mobile unit available still?
Lets see some 3d printing vids!!!! I think they are very essential for shops...just like how you used yours! I am curious, which printer did you go with?
I went with this one from Anycubic amzn.to/2JaFWvo
Love it! Blunders and all. Such is life. Definitely more 3D printing! I just got an Ender 3 in July and I do that exact kind of thing with odd job pieces! Has already made itself worth the purchase!
Heck yeah, 3D printers are awesome
Maybe I'm just lazy, but I would have just installed a wall-mounted power strip instead of a wiring in another outlet and have all those additional outlets. Definitely not a criticism. I've been brainstorming how i'd do something like this, but I still want to be able to use the slide part of my miter saw. I haven't built work benches yet, so maybe i can work something integral into it.
This is the way to go. Or if you're cutting out drywall you might as well add several two-gang outlets along the entire wall.
OR just go with exposed conduit. But I'm weird and I like the look of emt in a shop.
yes to more 3d printing in your videos... including both the design part and the usage!
Thx for the feedback
I second that! I've been into 3d printing for a long time now, but am just starting to get more into woodworking. I've already printed a runout gauge for my table saw, shop vac adapters, and a few other things. I'd love to see how you combine the two tools to make things!
I would love some more 3D printing for woodworking! YT has a ton of resources for 3D printing but not many applications for woodworking
Great video. I would LOVE to see any and all 3D Printed tools and accessories, etc!
Couple of questions. #1 why didn’t you drop the outlet down below with you shop vac? #2 you have a 3D printer now. You should of made a stop block with it.
Oh and great build! Been looking forward to this one
Glad you enjoyed it! My garage sits below my house so there's a sill plate in the way, that's why I left it up.
I hate to be that guy, but this is actually brilliant! I've been binge watching your videos because as the weather is getting warmer I have to get into my garage and start cleaning and organizing. Thanks for your inspiration bro.
Hi, i really love your builds. Would it be possible to make metric versions of your plans? Think the market for that might be a bit bigger😁
Great video with lots of incredible tips. I am just finishing a similar miter saw station and really like your stop block. What are the dimensions of the wooden block and how far behind the face of the miter saw fence did you place your t track?
Id have added one at each stud over both sides. Then you could set any table top tool on it at almost any spot or used a hand held tool down the length of the top
And never wanted an extra outlet.
Now this might not meet code but what the chance you have 5 tools all running on it at any one time? The most might be 2. How many outlets are on a strip plug ive seen 24. At one end you could add a gfci or breaker thats lower then the panels breaker. In a kitchen how often do you need to go looking for a spot to plug in? Most houses all the time.
Here's the deal you'll never pull more then 15amps or 20 amps depending how the house is wired. At most youll trip a breaker.
Then you have drill chargers phone chargers a place to plug in a sander or drill press router .
my intentions are to put small part storage there so the outlets would be covered up if I did that. But if you wanted to use for small tools that would be great
Was there just no way to make the opening the right width and then make the cart the right height to just slot the cart into place between the cabinets and then lock it in place with cleats or a few screws to allow you to keep the mobility?
Awesome as usual, Brad! Just love your subtle humor ("with a few million operations..." lol), and your willingness to show the mistakes is completely relatable! You realize your shop vac cubby is screaming for a door, right? :)
Yeah, I was considering a door and will probably do that later 👍
Love this. I especially like the stop block. Thanks for the video
You need one of those Bosh saws that uses an arm instead of a slide. Having the ability to cut wide material is much nicer. I got rid of my plain chop saw last year and have no regrets.
not a fan of sliders and I prefer to cut wide pieces on the table saw. works well for me, but I know a lot of folks love the Bosch.
I got a 3D printer for the exact same reason. Would love to see more about how you’re using it!
Absolutely!
thanks for the feedback!
I don’t see the little metal detector in the tool links. Also some vids about 3d printing or Cnc work would be cool!
Here it is! Added to the description too. amzn.to/2KLrDxR
very nice.
thanks, Keith!
I like how you extend your pinky when measuring ... shows class :)
Can you tell me where did you get the external filter for your shop vac? The one so that dust doesn’t come blowing back out. Thanks, awesome work!
That's actually a muffler. It has an internal Hepa filter
A muffler...from what application?
Great video like always thanks 👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Would love a video on your 3D printing techniques, Thanks
Noted!
Nice work
Thanks!
Wow, you are extremely good at what you do. I really like your video's & woodwork.
Brad, Running that router through the table top without hitting screws or brad nails is like playing minesweeper! Hahaha! I see you like to live dangerously! Great video, as always!
Did I miss the "Why I switched" part? There was a small abstract comment about needing space. Was that the case? Nice vid. Thx.
I talked about it specifically for over a minute here 4:10 😀
When you talk about counter sinking screws your drill/impact has a specific large attachment on it. What is that? Some sort of custom chuck?
It's a non-marring countersink bit - made by Amana Tool if I remember correctly.
It's this Countersink bit.ly/ftbtcountersink
@@Fixthisbuildthat Awesome! Thank you! Another item added to my Amazon woodworking list!
Great as usual.
Thanks again!
Thanks for sharing that, well done!
Thx!
Wish I had more outlets in my garage. The joys of townhomes with detached garages.
ugh, detached garages are tough
What do you think a beginner woodworker/diy'er (I don't if there is any word like that🤣) should buy first as his power tools?
Nice to see your miter saw station coming along nicely. I couldn’t be as efficient without mine. Cool video.
I would enjoy seeing more on 3D printing! I have one on order.
Thx!
Absolutely! So many uses for a woodworker. I need to design a custom cabinet for my printer (and future printers haha)
You did a great job! I’m glad you do everything you can to keep your workplace as clean as possible! I myself am crazy about vacuuming and using big shop vacs! I have the same standard of cleanliness when I do projects on my house! For example, I have been repainting my house. When I finish for the day, I always finish with a thorough vacuuming! Good job on your miter saw station!!
I also got a 3d printed adapter for my circular saw.
great usage!
@@Fixthisbuildthat i got it ordered from a local 3d print shop, but it sold me on the idea of getting my own printer. Some practical 3d printing videos would be cool to watch. Most 3d printig videos are about demo pieces or some out of reach projects. Some real life applications would be great to see.
Nice build and very professional looking, but obviously you don't foresee a need to crosscut/miter material that's longer on one end (or both) than the left or right lengths of your counter top on either side of your miter saw. These fixed configurations for any tool only seem suitable in large shops with essentially unlimited "wall" space, which most people don't have. What do you do when you want to cut a precision bevel or miter or cross cut on one end of a 12-ft. piece of trim, or even an 8-ft. length? Or for that matter, cut a long piece in half? I know! Roll out your FTBT mobile miter saw station!
I mount my "stationary" tools on mobile bases for this reason - also to enable storing out of the way in limited space, e.g., planer, jointer, band saw. Don't have a drill press but would "mobilize" one of those as well. The tool most analogous to a miter saw, of course, is my radial arm saw, and it too is on a mobile base to enable maneuvering, which I've done hundreds of times to enable cross cutting longer material, trim boards, etc. Still have it but obviously the miter saw has taken over many of those duties.
This is why I used your plans for the mobile miter saw station, with modifications, to enable, um.... "mobility" within my shop (it's also movable/transportable to location of project). Even my table saw (cabinet saw) is on a mobile base, including the 5-ft. table extension, which I have moved around hundreds of time to accommodate ripping or forming longer boards, even up to 14 feet long. That means 28 feet of length plus the saw blade. It's awkward - I have to use the full diagonal of my shop and open a door to run material outside, lol.
I would just suggest that one consider the likely application or use of a tool before "fixing" a permanent base.
Definitely good things to think about!
Fantastic work, Brad! Nicely done! 😃
I wish I had the space... But I'm going with a mobile station. What can I do? This is the way. 😊
Anyway, happy holidays! And stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thanks! And the mobile solution served me well for 5 years. I have nothing but love for it!
Insulation cotton candy is my favorite flavor.
pairs well with a good sauvignon blanc
Just finished doing a bloody animation exam plate. Perfect timing for another video upload to relax
Hope it helped you chill out :)
Can you do a video building a plate rack please @Fix This Build That .... all the way from Trinidad an Tobago and I admire your work and I have learnt a lot from your video’s
yes to the 3d printing side of things
thanks for the feedback!
Hell yeah lets see some more 3D printing! What printer do you use?
Using an Anycubic i3 Mega S
Nice! Thanks for showing your mistakes it helps some of us from feeling completely hopeless. :)
I built the mobile miter saw stand and thinking about the same move as you did, but my issue is that I upgraded the saw to DWS-780, which with pushed back fully makes the front of the saw fence around 21.5", which means that I either need a deeper cabinet or some other solution. Most of the time I will probably cut 4x2, 8x2 or 10x2, so I'm thinking about a 24" deep cabinet so 2x4 can rest and make a 8" extension board that I can install when I cut wider pieces.
What would be your suggested solution, I might be missing something obvious.
What brand of 3D printer do you use? And please show more about 3D printing.
I haven't been able to find a link to the wood storage supports you use. Those are very cool. Where can I find them?
I just noticed the muffler on the vacuum at the beginning of the video. Does it quiet the noise of the vacuum or just stops the blow back?
it does both!
Where’d you get that drill press?
Really interested to see your updates - as a long time watcher, your mobile cart was one of the first projects I did when I got into woodworking and discovered the world of UA-cam -- hard to believe that was five years ago. From that time until now, I've had the same Craftsman 10" compound miter saw on the stand and always thought when I upgraded the saw, it would be a height only adjustment. This winter, I finally decided to upgrade and got a new Bosch saw....it's waaaay bigger and won't fit on the stand (height and width are both issues, I think depth will be OK) and I wanted to reach out to see if you've come across this situation before and have any suggestions of how you would recommend updating the cart for a lager saw. setup
My current thinking is that I'll make some kind of top addition that will interface with the original top and hold the wings and accommodate the larger saw with out me having to disassemble the whole cart...I haven't started designing yet though. :-)
Finally, 3D printing has been my "COVID project" and I went from experimentation with an Ender 3 a year ago to building two open-source printers from scratch and upgrading my Ender with the skills and components I learned about on those builds -- I'd love to see how you incorporate 3d printing into your workflow and other practical prints you've incorporated around the house. I find mine printing almost daily and I've made countless things over the last year and a half and taught myself to be proficient in Fusion 360.
Thanks again for all and Happy New Year!
Yeah, sliders are monsters! Honestly the best approach would probably be to disassemble and make new shelves and back. Unless you glued it. Then I'd consider repurpusoing the carcass and rebuilding and using the wings and side supports. And thanks for the 3d printing feedback!
Brad, great video as always. Can u drop a link for the dust hose attachment you use that has a red dial or connection “thingamajigger” on it???
it's the standard hose on the Fein Turbo amzn.to/37GQax5
Great video.
Good content, excellent production quality and very informative.
Also, as someone else who is into woodworking AND 3d printing, I would LOVE to see more videos about using 3dprinting to enhance your shop.
thanks for sharing.
Shocking! Good one!
What's the plywood that you used for the frame? I'm new to the hobby and that plywood looks beautiful!
nice job!
Thanks!
I love the indicator!
More 3D prints please :)
