This lens is simply superb. It does very nice portraits and is great for copy work.
The images have a kind of presence. I have admit the 110 inspires me more to shoot portraits, but that’s because the F2.0 is fun. But it’s really hard to choose between a Lamborghini and a Ferrari. I have been shooting medium format since the middle 1960s and the 120 is about the best I’ve seen. The 110 is a much more specific tool. The only lens I have seen to compare to the 120 is the schneider 110mm f/5.6 super-symmar xl, a simply dazzling view camera lens. The fact that one can put these two on the pedestal is kind of like both one gold at the Olympics. And a real tribute to Fuji that they have caught up to and equaled German optics. I hope how long this comment is makes clear just how impressed I am with this lens.
If you can only pick one, the 120 is the one.

Hey Marshall, thanks a lot for this awesome presentation about this glass. Currently, I own the GF 110mm, but this year I want to get this lens for my product photography...

Thank you for the kind words. I really like the GF 120mm for product photography. I really wish I could afford both lenses I think they are very good at different things even though their focal lengths are so close.

The only thing is missing in this lens is a collar mount in case you want to attached on tripod.

Thank you for the comment! Totally agree, a collar mount would b very helpful. I do use this lens on a tripod, but the weight distribution is a little awkward, and the tripod is very beefy to hold the weight.

I can't speak to shooting with this lens, but I have had my portrait taken with it and, to be honest, it made me look really beautiful. :)

Great video! This is a lens I want to get my hands on for film scanning (mainly large format) and for general macro usage. How do you find the accuracy/speed of autofocus with and without the focus limiter?

Thank you for the kind words. I have not personally used this lens yet for film scanning, but I do want to since I have a lot of old 6X7 cm that I would love to scan. Personally, I think the autofocus on this lens is awesome. I will clarify that I am taking into consideration that it is a medium format camera. It is definitely not fast like a Canon 1Dx series, or something like that, but I find it quite snappy. I have used this lens on the GFX 50s for quite a few weddings/events and really like how the autofocus. The focus limiter definitely helps. I think the biggest feature of this lens is the image stabilization. It is really helpful for slower shutter speeds and it really makes a difference for handheld macro type shots. One caution, make sure you turn off the IS on this lens if you use it is on a tripod (all lenses, but this one more so) because I forgot to one time and the IS hunts and the images are soft if there isn't any motion. Hope this answers your questions.

@@marshalljvanderhoofphoto It was very helpful, thank you. Funnily, I am actually moving FROM a 1DX III to the GFX system. I'm glad to hear that the focus limiter helps, as macro lenses can be quite brutally slow sometimes. I appreciate you taking the time to reply, and I have your 32-64 review queued up to watch at lunch later. Subscribed!

@@Shaka1277 The rear screen is so good on the GFX system, I use manual focus and zoom in to my subject when I'm shooting subjects up close.
Congrats on the new system! I still have a 1DX II that I use specifically for wildlife and fast moving subjects. I think the 2 systems (1DX and GFX) compliment each other well.

@@marshalljvanderhoofphoto I'd like to be able to keep the 1DX III but can't justify both systems, and I don't really do much sports/action photography anymore. Is it okay if I drop you a message if I have any specific questions once I get my hands on the kit? :)

@@Shaka1277 Totally understand not being able to justify both systems. I think it is more important to ensure you have have the funds to go shoot than just collect gear. Definitely reach out if you have questions.

I would like to see a comparison with the new 110 TS Macro lens…

The new TS 110 Macro lens looks really amazing. It would be really interesting to compare these lenses especially for macro work. With that said, I will say that the 110 TS and the 120 are kinda in different leagues especially when it comes to price , but also the the ability to tilt/shift gives the lens a huge potential advantage.
I would really like to have the opportunity to test them side by side though for sure. Thank you for the comment.
