A good podcast Chris - It's always enjoyable to hear Lofty talk. Much of it I know, which is understandable considering my father Terry and Lofty's time together in the regiment (they were best of friends and our families are today) so it's a job to know what to say. Ha, at my dads funeral Lofty said, "Jick could talk but couldn't walk and I could walk but couldn't talk." Their partying was legend as was ours later. When my brother Paul and I got heavily into the drugs and started bringing it back home guess who mum got to kick us out? That's right, Lofty. All of a sudden the man from the anti terror wing appeared to deal with terrorists in the home. I can remember we weren't going to argue and that was it; we were on the street surviving. In my upcoming book I say that he would have done well to instruct us before hand. But nah, survival was instinctive. Well, good going. Love Lofty and always will. Mark
The two of you should have a weekly pod,it sure would knock youtube out, what agreat show with Lofty, Chris, cheers a lot from Sweden from another virgo ,also born on sep 21.
Excellent interview with Lofty.. Such a humble person for what he has achieved but he doesn’t suffer fools.. You both bounced off each other so well. Top draw stuff mate💪👍
I think it's brilliant that you both recognise the role of the support branches. S&S in the Navy (supply and secretariat) I was a cook and yes we took a lot of shit but the role is pivotal. In the end it comes down to teamwork.
Fascinating Chris, thanks for sharing.I can't remember Lofty mentioning his military career much. Very humble as usual. Blaming the Rupert's for the lack of V.C's😂
I did a course with Eddie Mcgee who did a similar role to Lofty. He told great stories around a campfire of his time with indigenous tribes around the world.
We had a brilliant Cook NCO who was a wizard with a No1 Burner, his name was Cpl Roy Sturgeon, brilliant bloke and a Master Chef as far as we were concerned. It would be nice to think that Big Roy is out there somewhere still knocking up top notch scran !
Never forget Chris, you saying about the cooks, we went down to Breaky one morning (Scoff).. And I was loading up me plate with sausage, bacon beans, a fried egg, and I wanted a second freid egg, then I heard a voice FACKIN PUT IT BACK, I put it on me plate anyway, next minite chef was there with his soup ladel saying PUT IT BACK, okay so that was that.. My point being Never underestimate a chef with a ladel... 🤣👍
Chris / Lofty, gleaned this off a site flogging the book "The Phoney Major". Aristocrat, gambler, innovator and special forces legend, the life of David Stirling should need no retelli
"Who Dares Grins." Life in a nut-shell. If you can't take a joke, you shouldn't have joined. Meanwhile, you're in now, so refer to the manual titled 'Who Dares Grins'.

I thought Lofty was dead. He is looking remarkably well on it.

Nice bloke, I didn’t realise he was still with us. I remember him in the 1970’s, and I thought he was an old man then 😁
