Thank you Matt Sweeney for bringing back ‘GTR Moves’. Marcus King is incredible. Keep doing the long format style. It’s great to listen to these just talk and play.
Keep Marcus safe at all costs..so grateful to have a country boy who stands so gracefully at the intersection of soul, indie rock, and country, but giving a big nod to jazz guitar 👌🏼
I saw a video of Marcus years ago and it gave me a bad impression of him. I've been seeing him pop up more lately, so when this video came out I decided to give him a another chance. I'm glad I did.
Probably one of the best guitar players alive at this moment in time don’t care what anybody says and can write songs and can sing with the best of them
I do hope they bring back those intro's where they show some shots of the surroundings in the beginning. That really added to the atmosphere in the older episodes imo.
Planning on going to see him in concert next year in Detroit. Found out about Marcus King last week while watching BB King videos. It would be my first concert in over 10 years and my first Country/Jazz concert ever.
I hope Matt is doing this show till the end of days. It's such a treasure to have all those great Guitar Players on video just do what they love and have fun.
When he is leaned over looking at his hands with that smile... He loves the instrument. There is the smile of pure joy. I love having those moments. Glad one of them was captured here. MK is one of my favorites.
Gotta say that to have Matt back doing this service for us is inspirational. Guitar moves was a staple of my learning guitar as a high schooler and now, as a twenty-something who listens to GBV and Slint thanks to this guy, returning to this earnest love of music is something I’m very thankful for.
Roger Fisher was the lead guitar player, who also wrote, in Heart untill about 1980. He was a founding member of the band before either of the Wilson sisters joined. Ha also wrote on of my all-time favorite Heart songs, 'Love Alive.'
This is gonna be a stellar one coming with Marcus…. Matt it was really exciting to meet you the other night at the queen of the Stone Age show in Lauderdale…. Keep up the greatness.
I had the honor of seeing Marcus King live. You can't help but feel like you are in the presence of greatness. Amazing player and singer. If you get the opportunity I highly recommend you see him.
glad this show is finally back. the season finale episode needs to be someone asking Matt about his guitar parts in Chavez. he downplays it but those were some SERIOUS parts that he played and sang simultaneously. and understated beast in his own right
Love this session for sure. I think the thing to be noted is - kids, let it ring. He doesn't mute out strings and let's it sing and fade off organically. Very technical and precise.
I am so happy that this series is back and with the most important guitar slayer/player/singer/ songwriter. Mr Marcus King. Hell Yeah! Mr Marcus King! King by name King by nature! I have never been so inspired as a or by a guitarist. This man is a legend in the making.
Love that this series is back. Do me a massive favour though and chill with the soft focus. Trying to watch those fingers at places is tricky for my old eyes. Can't wait to see who/what's coming next.
Marcus King is da man ! Fantastic guitarist and one of the best songwriters of our time. Makes me so happy to see that there are people like him who keep the blues and all that classic rock stuff fresh and alive
Hell yeah, back with the best guitar show on UA-cam. So happy to see this. Great first episode for the new season. Sweeney squinting and looking baffled as Marcus shreds is all of us. So relatable
HOLY SHI…. This is amazing. This is one of my favourite guitar players of all time and one of my favourite shows. And Matt sweeneys playing an es330 and they’re talking about Duane and M.T band ?? .. man being a guitar enthusiast in this day and age rules. I love that this show is back. Much love ❤️ also love the bands echo session (I am obsessed with the music, and slow it down to try absorb all the licks+chords)
Marcus is, for me, the most inspiring guitar player to come along in a long time. Thanks for doing this one Matt, I could tell you were inspired as well. Seems like that was a great hang too. Shangri La...wow!
What a fantastic episode! Marcus is so down to earth and I loved hearing his stories. Especially the one about the pinky 😂 Thanks for putting this together Matt! 👏🏻
This was inspiring dude didn’t really know of Marcus until this, learned a lot in a short space of time, great episode. This guy is really about it, can tell his respect, knowledge and love for the history of music is firmly placed. Thanks mate this show will always be legendary
Theory is imported to learn. Learning the relative minor opens up a lot of freedom in soloing. Gives you a lot of opportunities to explore the entire fretboard. All 5 positions of the pentatonic scales gives you a lot of flexibility to explore the neck. Thanks for sharing I have seen Marcus King a couple times and he is amazing.
So glad to see Matt and Guitar Moves make a comeback - what a special (and necessary) show for us guitar dorks!
Thank you Matt Sweeney for bringing back ‘GTR Moves’. Marcus King is incredible. Keep doing the long format style. It’s great to listen to these just talk and play.
Doug Martsch needs a guitar moves ep

Keep Marcus safe at all costs..so grateful to have a country boy who stands so gracefully at the intersection of soul, indie rock, and country, but giving a big nod to jazz guitar 👌🏼
Marcus’ tone and playing……dudes a freakin monster
And he’s actually a damn good teacher too it seems, I could listen to him talk all day!
Damn you using proper grammar 😮
I love how Marcus interviews himself, and asks himself all the pertinent questions
Marcus seems so humble and down to earth, plus I love how genuinely excited and curious Matt is in all these videos
I saw a video of Marcus years ago and it gave me a bad impression of him. I've been seeing him pop up more lately, so when this video came out I decided to give him a another chance. I'm glad I did.
The telecaster is the original play station, ahhhhhhhh. I love that. 😊😊😊
Esquire, hell yeah
Marcus King is the real deal - so talented. Imagine getting a private lesson from him. Wow.
Probably one of the best guitar players alive at this moment in time don’t care what anybody says and can write songs and can sing with the best of them
I know they’re basically playing on two different fields, but I’d love to see him do a collab with Billy Strings personally!
@@trapjudas1631 they've done some stuff together that is worth checking out
@@trapjudas1631 there's a carter vintage guitars video of them playing together.
So glad this show is back!
I do hope they bring back those intro's where they show some shots of the surroundings in the beginning. That really added to the atmosphere in the older episodes imo.

The riff Rolodex of Marcus is just incredible. Inspires me to get my butt in gear and lock in!!
Never heard of Marcus, but man, what an inspirational player. So many cool insights and ideas. Matt was obviously getting his mind blown too.
Didnt know who Marcus King was before this. Instant fan. One of those people you can’t help but love
