Have you heard Disencumbrance or Broken Flesh? Disencumbrance was a Texas band, I don't think they ever got signed but their demos are sick. Broken Flesh is brutal deathmetal and they opened up for Cannibal Corpse at one point.
Out of the ones you mentioned, I agree, Soul Embraced is my favorite. “This is My Blood” will probably be my favorite release of theirs, followed by “Dead Alive” and “Mythos”. I liked “Immune” for maybe one listen, but overall that is my least favorite of theirs.
Becoming The Archetype is probably considered more of a metalcore band but they brought some old school death metal heat on their debut Terminate Damnation. Still my overall favorite as far as "modern" is concerned, along with Extol
Perfect!! 5 bands I had never heard prior, so now I have these to explore. Thanks, Daniel! Although I was baptized as an adult in the mid-90's, I didn't really get into heavier music until the early 2000's and that amazing metalcore scene that sprung up. Gonna make a Spotify mix of the selections here and enjoy while at work this week, but looking forward to next weeks upload.
I would love to see a list of your top 5 or 10 Christian Nu-Metal bands. I've got my list ready to go. Christian Nu-Metal was what I grew up on in the 90's and was my literal gateway to all things metal.
Got out of work on a Friday night in 1994.... drove to Sparta, Michigan to the Michigan Mosh Festival (also known that year as the Michigan Mosh Slam Jam Hardcore Spring Thing)...and walked straight into my one and only time seeing Crimson Thorn live. Brutal.
Can't say anything Rocky Gray and Lance Garvin have gotten involved with has ever disappointed my ears... Thanks for highlighting some of the smaller, lesser known, death metal bands (other than Mortification and Living Sacrifice)! Having heard some of the secular music of the era, these bands still stand out as equal if not better musically. I remember back in high school in the 90's, they were even respected by my friends who generally only listened to the secular death metal.
Good shouts on all the bands, including the honorable mentions! In the off chance you're not familiar with them, check out Woe Of Tyrants. Not a "Christian" band in the strictest sense of the term, but more of a faith focus in a lot of the lyrics. Their album Kingdom Of Might absolutely slays as a melodic death metal record. Also, though they only have 1 album so far, don't pass on Tortured Conscience. Totally relentless, heavy stuff.
Solid list. I’ve never even heard of Aletheian before. Love Crimson Thorn and Sacrificium though. I’ll also throw Krig into the ring, they’ve got a solid discography
Sorry, that just turned my brain inside out learning that My Tourniquet was originally a death metal song. Fascinating video; can't wait for the metalcore sequel.
My favorite death metal albums so far: Nonexistent - Living Sacrifice Scrolls of the megilloth - Mortification Undeceived - Extol Escaping the stupor - Sacrificium
That's a solid list! I still remember the first time I saw Crutch. They were playing a Living Sacrifice song on the grass, back when generator "stages" were not on stages. Blew my mind.
Sacrificium are legendary! Revulsed would definitely be up there for me although perhaps technically not explicitly "Christian" dm. Broken Flesh would be there for me too if you would put them in the dm category
no Metanoia?! hey, do you remember when some hxc website leaked a Soul Embraced song from Immune claiming it was a new Zao song? early 00s christian music scene was a trip.
Yeah I could never get into Metanoia. But yeah I could see that Soul Embraced thing ha ha, Chads vocals sounded alot like Dan's on Immune. I mean not really, but back then that vocal style was always 100% synonymous with Dan.
My Top 5 are Mortification Scrolls of the megilloth Sacrificium Escaping the stupor Crimson Thorn Unearthed Paramaecium Exumed of the earth Extol Burial And my Top 5 Demos are Disencumbrance Oblation Obliteration Deracination Embodyment (From Australia) Greetings from Germany
You should check out the Chords of The Grave Compilation (ua-cam.com/video/avy-vuyaDeU/v-deo.html) It has a bunch of Old School Christian Death Metal bands from the mid 90s, mostly from Texas, I think you'd like them.
He totally could, dude's been in so many bands. Mortification, Paramaecium, Horde, Deliverance, Inexordium, Revulsed. Probably more I dont remember right now.
i was enjoying getting into Seventh Angel until i looked at their lyrics, i dont mind christian spirituality but when the band starts singing about being anti abortion and earnestly warning the listener to repent or go to hell, thats when i check out. eugh
That one man project 🫨 Extra slimey just like I like! Dude you've given me some great stuff to check out! I'm curious about super doomy deathy sludgey Christian stuff! Loving your entries in this list 👍👍

@@cizmar1972 yes to both. I heard Disencumbrance on the Chords of the Grave Comp years ago. And yeah Broken Flesh is as brutal as they come.
@@dft9000 Disencumbrance is probably my favorite Christian Deathmetal band, even though they only put out demos.

Check out the band Broken Flesh - Warbound . The full album is on UA-cam.
@@jg7923 I love Broken Flesh
@@dft9000 Cool. They are Really heavy.
Excellent inclusion of Soul Embraced and a special mention of Thy Pain! Both bands definitely deserve recognition.

Awesome. Soul embraced is my favorite!!!
For over a decade I've been loving the 1 album from Indwelling. It makes me think of cryptopsy with old school Nile vocals.
@@dwilcox3309 that Indwelling record is fantastic. Unique too. The vocals are out of this world.
