  • I’m a huge fan of the panel sled in the shop vs the traditional cross cut sled. Probably my most often used sled! I wanted just a couple different features on the one that I’ve been using for years so, decided to build a new one and add those features. Quick build for a sled that’s a daily user in my shop!

Nice build, and well explained. When mounting the runner, if you want to avoid putting screws in from the top, double sided carpet tape will stick the hdpe to the base, then you can flip it over and just screw from underneath 🙂

Can you briefly explain how you squared up your miter slot to the fence and blade? Is the fence just sitting directly above the blade to line up with the kerf?

Absolutely. I actually used calipers to line up the miter slot / fence / and Blade long before this video. They were all squared. I set the fence close to the blade to ensure it was as square as could be to the runners. I simply cut off the excess and then aligned the fence from there. Apologies if I didn't cover that that sufficiently in the video.

Simple and effective! I will be trying these runners on the next sled I build.

I agree. Since I made my panel sled my traditional crosscut sled collects a lot of dust. Curious, where would a traditional sled be a better choice?

I still use mine when I need hold downs in the bottom on smaller pieces or when I need a stop block on both sides of the blade.

Thanks for the information…I have been wanting a cross cut sled but now I think I will build a panel sled instead..looks like it’s much more easier to build correctly.
I do have one question..Does the handle stop the stop block from moving closer to the blade side of the sled?

Thanks.. No, the stop slides by. However, if I need the stop to be where the handle is, I need to remove the handle. It's only installed hand tight so, isn't a big deal.

Sorry if I'm missing the obvious. Is there a plan for this one? I did not see it on the website (getting old here - maybe it's too damn simple for a plan). Also is the stop block rail the Rockler listed product on the affil link? Thanks

Hey Vincent, sorry, I didn't do any plans for it since it's fairly simple. If you drop me an email, I'll grab my actual dimensions for you. Kev@kevswoodworks.com. The stop block rail is a rocker item but, not the one in the show notes. This is the one though. www.rockler.com/double-t-track-fence-cap

      22" wide by 28" deep.

That would let you crosscut a good size panel. Thank you. Jake@@KevsWoodworks

Sliding table saw is the best choice

I would disagree. For starters, they tend to be cost prohibitive for many so, you end up with DIY options which are not the best. If I were working with a lot of sheet goods, a slider would definitely be my choice but, I like the options of sleds like this when working furniture projects.
