oops..! I've only came off my MTBs a few of times really, and twice for the same reason, and it was the only time on my eMTB - last year i was riding down a field and not going that quick - around 13mph... i was riding down some tractor lines, and decided i wanted to be in the other line... i hopped over, except my front wheel never hopped and the divert was deeper than i thought haha... i went flying over the handle bars, but was ok..!!
last time the same happened it was back in the 90s, i was bunny hopping between similar kind of lines but came a cropper haha..

Looks like the front fork took a big compression just as you were entering the turn and the front ran away with it, over steered the front wheel. Then it acts sorta like a brake and throws your momentum the opposite direction. That's the best explanation I can come up with for what happened. You can reproduce the effect on your bike even when stationary. Just turn the handle bars enough and you'll cross a threshold where the front wheel wants to roll backwards. I'd recommend increasing the fork compression or air pressure, add a token too maybe. Looks like a lot of travel was consumed for that turn, but that said I cant see the terrain.
I love roots so I'm always playing around with suspension and techniques and oddly my favourite is tackling roots on my hardtail. Anyway, back on the horse ASAP and let's be seeing you railing that bold turn next time

Thanks a million Brendan for that detailed explanation. It makes a lot of sense and since then I have added more air and a token as well and the bike feels much better. Your explanation about the momentum being thrown is really good and something that I would not have realised but makes complete sense. Thanks so much again and thank you for watching too! 🙌

Roots are awesome, they turn simple flat turns into a whole other thing. You might like them if you play around with technique, like unweighting the bike, mini manuals, bunny hops. Too many riders rely on the unbelievably good capabilities of modern forks and shocks and neglect the human suspension of legs and arms. I rode hardtail with mates all on plush top end full sussers and it taught me loads. Outran a good few full sussers too, but failed miserably on gnarly trails, there are limits 😁
Some good videos on tackling rooty sections on GMBN you might enjoy watching. Take care
