As someone who used to be a major pushover growing up in an asian family, I can say for certain that this kind of behavior is conditioned by emotional abuse from a young age. People pleasers become adept at suppressing their own feelings, allowing others to take advantage of them in order to avoid conflict. Over time, they start seeing themselves as inferior, willingly adopting the role of the "one who must be strong" for others' sake. They confuse being passive and obedient with strength, and convince themselves that their tolerance is a sign of maturity when it's really just being neglectful of any kind of self-respect and mental health.
