Hey UA-cam, I'm Tristan, I make videos about my Bedford Rascal micro camper/Romahome. I share the build process as it happens and would also like to share my trips around the UK and maybe even Europe! Learn everything there is to know about living with a camper and #vanlife.
Rust reveal and SOME Prevention Work on Rio the Rascal
In this latest episode, Tristan takes a deeper look at the rust underneath Rio! The Bedford Rascal needs some TLC as you will already know but it will tidy up quick nicely I think.
On to some grinding, sanding and some rust prevention later on in the video and something more major at the end of the video!
Stay tuned by Subscribing and hitting the bell notification! Don't forget to like the video too if you enjoyed it!

New Compressor + More for the Bedford Rascal!
Переглядів 8323 роки тому
I bought a bunch of new tools and things to assist me in the building of the Bedford Rascal, I also named him RIO, as I thought it was a cool name. Still have a few parts yet to arrive and then a lot of work to do, but I hope you will join me in this effort to produce a really nice camper. It will be worth it in the end, but it's the journey which will be the best part! Please subscribe if you ...

It's my Birthday! I turned 30! It's a milestone which came with some perks, I am now able to get my Bedford Rascal done, well hopefully. Keeping it real and trying to keep costs down, I will be doing as much work as I can myself which will mean learning a few things along the way which I will be sharing on the channel in upcoming videos. This is another long video which goes on about what I wan...
Bedford Rascal Money Pit
Переглядів 3,9 тис.3 роки тому
This camper is quickly becoming a money pit. Which is really big problem. In this video I am going to quickly explain why I haven't uploaded content in months and why it is going to be increasingly difficult to do so over the coming months. I am trying to overcome a hurdle which is holding me back. I am certain I will make it, but like everything, it takes time. It's not over by a long shot, bu...
Update on the Rascal Build
Переглядів 2 тис.4 роки тому
Hey guys, welcome back to another video. I'm sorry that it's nothing fresh really, but this is an update video on my progress with everything. As many of you know who currently follow me, I have just moved into a new unit with my business, and I am still upside down with everything, along with another project and work itself and living life in some small amounts of personal time, I have had no ...

Firstly, I want to tell my viewers that I am sorry for not uploading content in the past month, I have been extremely busy with work and also the weather has not been the best for the past few months, I always get rained off whenever I try to do anything. So today, I have finally decided to make a new video, I have had the chance for a change to get one done, but it was still raining slightly e...
Installing a new fuel pump on my Bedford Rascal *Another Nightmare*
Переглядів 3,8 тис.4 роки тому
Welcome to my hell of problems 😂 In this video I am installing my new fuel pump which I have recently purchased from eBay. It cost me £26 and was listed as a Suzuki Carry 1.0 fuel pump, great no problem. It all fit perfectly, although I noticed that the quality of the fuel pump was definitely lacking compared to the old one, not to worry however, as long as it works, it will definitely be an im...
The Bedford Rascal Wiring Nightmare!
Переглядів 2,7 тис.4 роки тому
Hello again guys and gals, in this video I am going to explain what has been happening for the last 3 weeks since the last upload. It's been an awful process but as always, it feels amazing when you get your head around something! I hit a major stumbling block in my understanding with the Bedford Rascal, the wiring. I don't know anything about electrics really, but I have a Haynes manual and pl...
Painting the Bedford Rascal Part 2
Переглядів 4,4 тис.4 роки тому
In this episode, I'm painting lots and lots more. Covering up all that rust that she had all over her and making her look pretty. As you saw in the last video I struggled with masking some areas off in order to paint them, I managed it but it was tough, let's just hope it was all worth it in the end. I also painted the black areas such as the fuel tank, leaf springs, wheel hubs and rear diff an...
Painting my Bedford Rascal with Hammerite Part 1
Переглядів 11 тис.4 роки тому
In todays video, it's time to paint! In the last video I got my Bedford Rascal ready for painting by degreasing all the areas under the body which had been left for many years. This time we are painting some areas with white Hammerite. Why have I chosen to use a brush instead of an aerosol? I chose this method in order to apply a nice thick coat onto the areas I wanted to paint because they are...
Deep Cleaning my Bedford Rascal Frame
Переглядів 6 тис.4 роки тому
In todays episode I am deep cleaning underneath the bed of the Bedford Rascal, so the frame, cables, nuts and bolts, mechanical areas, everything needs a deep clean. There is a huge build up of old oil which has been present for many years it seems which I have been removing with GUNK which is a degreasant and I can tell you, it was a lot of work removing it all. There looks to have been an oil...
Removing the bed from the Bedford Rascal Pickup
Переглядів 9 тис.4 роки тому
In this video, I remove the bed of the Bedford Rascal Pickup. This enables me to get to what's potentially underneath, rust, corrosion, damage, flaking paint, dirt, oil grease..you name it! The point of removing it is so I can get to all of these things and address any issues now, before they turn into something worse. This was just the process of taking the bed off, it was hard work and took m...

Fair play buddy and I 100% no what you mean ! For me it was fear of not having anything or anyone but there’s always something that will come to you as a blessing! Honestly relationships ruin a man , changes a man , pushes everything we love to do away ! I think as men it’s better to live apart from a lover rather than together in each other’s pockets as that’s when shit don’t work , glad to see you got your business all sorted and hope your well buddy 👍🏻 Nick
Hi Tristan , how hard was it to remove the pod ? Was it only the bolts to worry about or is anything else connected? Cheers buddy
Hi mate love your vids but i was wondering have you come across the wiring un the steering wheel if so could you tell me were the blue wire goes ?my ignition lights went out on tracing the problem blue wire was very loose and connector just fell off heres hoping you can help cheers David.
@TheThedon33 hello, I'm afraid I don't have a clue, however, if you are able to take a couple of pictures and upload them to the Rascal Facebook group, there are many knowledgeable individuals on there that will get your problem solved.
having no toilet isn't a bad thing, if you are staying in a camping, or a place where a toilet is nearby. if you are off grid you're going to need a tent with a toilet and shower.
You don’t need to buy now you got the equipment! Just do content with the stuff you have 😀 great work buddy
Have you given up ?
No, just everything is on hold at the moment
Congratulations for getting as far as you have ! Content don’t mean spending money 👍🏻
Interesting, thank you
Do you have any idea how much the detachable body weighs?
I don't actually know how much it weighs, but i used a forklift to move it around the unit. you cannot pick it up by hand with the accessories in it. totally empty fiberglass shell, weighs considerably less though.
I know that Bambi's weigh nearly 1.5t 800kg more than the panel van and such steady old things but don't complain.
@@jaggass the idea is definitely to keep the weight down as much as possible.
That's the Romahome is the better option in some ways.
@@jaggass I agree
oh man i had the same phone back in the day, specially lg g2 and g3 rocked!
Still have it today, but don't use it anymore, upgraded many times since. I am currently on the S22 Ultra from Samsung.
Im from Yorkshire and i know im going to get bullied for my accent 😂 ❤
You won't be bullied for your accent, it makes you who you are.
So what happened. Have you still got it. This was 2 years ago. Am thinking of buying one.
The project came to a halt and no more progress was made on it unfortunately. I did buy some custom things for it though, but no work has been done to it since, i was going to make a video about the lack of progress to update everyone. If you want one, you should defintely get one.
Hi trist how are you buddy been 3 years do you still have the van ? Iv just got a little one just the same on F reg 😃
@@moonlight8973 nice one, I hope you enjoy it, do not take it apart 😂
@@tristan7734 I did buy one 😂😭😭 but need to remove the pod as wanting to change timing belt …. 😔 only hanynes to rely on 😂 but I just want to no if the pod remove is easy just the 4 bolts and no wires hidden to worry about ? I really need to put her in my garage you see but only the truck will fit without the pod and I want her to be warm and dry during winter 🥶 👍🏻
@moonlight8973 there was a wiring harness connected to the leisure battery in the pod, you must disconnect that if you have one and pull the wires through, otherwise you will have difficulty removing the pod. Other than that, 4 bolts and it is detached, be careful though as it is very heavy, you need to jack up the pod away from the pickup and try to drive it out before lowering the pod down to the ground, that's how I did it. Mine is stood on pallets in my storage unit. However, I have access to a forklift which makes it very easy.
Iv a problem with the carburetor have you any ideas no one wants or knows what to do thanks kev
I hope you managed to get this sorted.
Thanks, Tristan!!!
I had a Honda acty motorhome that I inherited from my brother and the lift up part of the floor gave access to the engine compartment. It was a ROMAHOME just like yours. They do make good little homes which there is a great following so check on line.
Ffs I just said out loud at the tv “why’s he using yoghurt??” at 0:25 🫣
it did look like yoghurt! Haha
Hi I have a rascal camper n was wondering if u no how to wire up leisure barriers to it ?
Hi Dan, generally speaking you need all your electrics going to a fuse box, and from there to a positive and negative terminal on the leisure battery. There are many diagrams and also videos on UA-cam of how to do this. You apply the knowledge to your setup.
Great video. I deal with bad social anxiety and low confidence. This is a great inspirational video for ppl like me who want to start vlogging and too scared to do it.😊
Time moves on and things change, you look back and think, how and why was i like that. These days, i pick up the phone and speak to customers without a second thought, which is basically the same process as this video. I don't make videos at the moment, but the best advice i can give you, is to record yourself to your phone every day and just review it back, you don't need to post it to the world. hold yourself accountable first, then when you feel comfortable enough, begin to upload and hold yourself accountable with that, there are a huge amount of people who feel the same as you do.
just showed him painting no idea what paint he was using or anything about it
Hammerite.
Sort of MPG does it get?
Around 30mpg with the pod on the back. a lot more without all the weight.
Its a fuel cut off solenoid at the carb. The one you're not sure of.
thanks for pointing that out.
what work did you do to the engine ? you did,nt say
just a full tune up, replacing all the parts which had worn, things like the points and fuel pipes ect.
What does that whole camper van rig weigh?
i don't know, i have never had it weighed.
I've got a similar issue. Pump used to make a noise for around 10 secs, (the buzzing0, then once fuel is through would stop. Now it buzzes or ticks but now won't start. Any thoughts?
it may have been air in the system, did you manage to get it sorted?
Maybe the float is stuck so it’s not shutting off the fuel when the float bowl is full
Tristan I am alive and well, where are you?
👋 I am still alive too, Rio the Rascal is in the corner still, things have been up and down since then, a lot has changed, for the better. I have plans to get Rio Fully built, but someone else will be doing the work, and it will probably be next year. When things begin to happen again I will begin to document again. Thanks for your support!
1 word flawless
i loved the car also.
Hello. I also own a left hand drive bedford rascal pickup truck. I am looking for a camper for it.
Amazing! Thanks
You're welcome.
what ever happened to this little camper? did it ever get finished?
No it got to where it currently is in the last video around a year ago, I got to a part with welding, and couldn't move past it, I tried lots of attempts at the welding on sheet metal away from the vehicle but couldn't master it, as I didn't have the right equipment and ran out of money, the camper is still sat in my unit, dry stored inside a tent inside the unit, with all the other parts. I'm hoping things will change later on this year, and it will be back on the channel..
You just inspired me to achieve my goals even more, i am terrified of filming at all just because I don't know what people would say about my videos i would make, I'm scared very scared but thank you so much Tristian for this video I'm going to do the same and try and film my videos its like you said you never know if you don't try
This is totally true! I need to get back into filming, I feel so much more comfortable now with it, I have a load of content to make for my business so i have no excuse, my channel on the other hand has stopped for the last year, something I need to get back into, it can be a lot of fun, especially when you look back and see where you have come from and what you have done! Hang in there, give it a try and have fun, with the right mindset you will only grow and you will achieve things you only dreamed of!,
@@tristan7734 Thank You so much for your response Tristan ! I will try my best to keep going and I look forward to your content too !
Linda merece uma reforma!
You can easily fit a Thetford portable loo, between the two bunks. You can make a fabric cover for it, and pop a cusion on top, for extra seating.
brilliant idea.
I'm also trying to overcome my fear of putting myself out there. You facing your fear is a giant encouragement for me. Much gratitude.
i am glad that i could help, i hope you have had some success from the point you left this comment.
Hello, can the beast pull 70mph on a level road?!
Yes it can, I have actually done it, although it felt a little bit dangerous haha
Perfect
Hey Tristan. How is the work coming out? I'm actually just looking to buy a Rascal as well and probably will need some restoration such like yours, but I quite like that part and the satisfaction of doing things yourself and make it look like it is yours! Good luck and hope you manage to finish soon! I will be doing the same this year and hope to hit the road afterwards! 🤞🏽
Congratulations! I hope you have a great time doing it, and a great journey afterwards. Mine is stuck in the corner of the warehouse waiting for welding to be done, I did have a go, but it definitely wasn't as easy as I thought, some areas that need doing are structural, so it's worth getting the professionals to do it, I have larger priorities than this at the moment which is why it's on the back burner..
28/12/2021 - coming from Graham Stephan's video right here :D ... keep doing the good work.
why spend money on painting the gaff and all that water system when u could be spending it on the camper and therefore making content ?
It's my place of work, I don't pay for the unit and its contents, the business does

Bedford in UK?
I have just came across this video as I am on the look out for a little camper like this. I remember my dad having a Bedford Rascal for work years ago. It was a great little pick up and it never once went wrong in all the time he had it. I will subscribe to the channel so I can catch up with more videos. I’d you come across any decent little ones like this for sale please let me know 👍
Great job, down to the bare bones of the vehicle, the place to start, Your approach is right because looking at all the jobs to be overcome is daunting but considering one at a time and chipping away is best, take it from me a past old type 2 VW camper owner. Have you considered a composite or legal bull bar for the front of the Rascal?
Tristan, are you oké?
Toilet is easy and cheap. Get a simple 5 gallon bucket (or whatever metric equivalent) at a hardware store. Find a lid. Add rubber grommets to that lid so it can be airtight and water tight. Use plastic bags to line the bucket and just toss that plastic bag whenever you see a trashcan, just like you'd throw away dog poop. When moving, secure the bucket so it doesn't topple over or spill its contents, much like the propane tank you have. Cheap, easy, effective, takes very little space.
Sounds familiar.
Go on where have you gone?
I think you are an absolutely a genius hard starting though a very versatile vehicle great 👍
Rio must be done by now
Have you finished the Bambi???????
Is it possible to add toilet and shower on it?
Bellissimo:)...where are u from?
