@littlestraykitten3291 10 mins seems to be a good universal time for mod podge to set. It can depend on temp, climate, and amt. As with most things 😊 If you are not feeling the tacky stage, I'd assess the amount being applied first. It could be applied too thin, which could cause it to dry quickly. If you are applying a good amount ( not where it's running down but you can tell it's a thicker layer) and still not getting the tacky texture, I'd then go off of sight. You'll want to find the sweet spot between drying stages. From the mid dry to right before it turns translucent should be a good working window for application!

@liznicolealbulov I'm using baby powder. It acts to absorb moisture and create a barrier so the gold leaf doesn't stick to the fingers and can be applied to the project easily. 😊

@brochanjow9169 I'm sorry that happened! I've been there before with a few pieces 😅 What I would do is remove the wax. Mineral spirits work great for dissolving the furniture wax. I don't know what color you're starting with. So if it works to create the Caribbean Shabby look, then you may not need to sand off the color. But if it's 2 or 3 coats of the wrong color all together, then I'd sand it off just so you're not left with a piece that looks thick and overdone. Now you'll have a prepped piece that you can create your specific look with! I hope this helps! I know it's a lot of prep work, but it'll be worth it when you're all done and have the piece you truly want!

@carole-x5z I've been there! I would first try to add the wax on top of the touch up areas. And once it dries, buff it in with the original finish. That will usually even it out 😊 If it still looks off, you'll have to remove the wax, even it all out with the paint and then reapply the wax. I usually use mineral spirits because it dissolves the wax pretty quickly. Then I'll do a scuff sand, thin layer of paint and then wax. I hope the first solution works so you don't have to go through all of that though! Hoping for the best! 🙌

@@CoconPelu2023 Depends on where I place it and what kind of look I'm going for. Since you can use both polyurethane and furniture wax to seal gold leaf, you can do the gold leafing before and seal it all together. Hope this helps!

It doesn't, for a huge number of reasons. Firstly, there is very poor adhesion to the metal (drawer handle). Secondly, this type of adhesive stays soft indefinitely and therefore remains vulnerable.

@rodneyreeves9434 That sounds amazing! I love creative ideas like that! You can keep going with the cross hatching and adding layers of paint/color for more depth. I did a simplified version for this tutorial. Also I'd recommend looking at older books with painting techniques. I find all kinds at thrift stores. There is a wealth of knowledge and ideas in those pages that may help you with your denim roller or landing on a technique that's closer to what you're after. If you do get that denim roller to work, I'd for sure patent that! Such a cool idea!

Yes, that will work fine 😊 The finish isn't much of a concern regarding getting the gold leaf to stick. It's more the type of glue. The only time finish matters is when you are applying it as a sealer/ top coat. And then it's just personal preference 😊

Hi there! Great question! The Krylon spray paint should be perfectly fine as a base for your gold foil. However, make sure the spray paint has fully dried. If it's still "sticky dry" the foil will be more difficult to work with. Hope this helps! Thanks for watching 😊

I used a polyurethane top coat. I believe the brand was Varathane. However, any polyurethane top coat will work just fine. You can also use furniture wax as well if you don't like polyurethane 😊 Hope this helps!

Great question! It's a mixture of paint and water. The ratios can differ, affecting the pigment of the wash. You apply it to dried paint, sanded wood, or other surfaces. And as you start to wipe it back, it leaves a light layer of color. It's fun to play around with! You can also use a few different washes to ad depth and interest. Thanks for your question! I'd love to do an updated ombre tutorial! I'm currently in the process of healing a back injury and getting ready to move. There are a few older ones on the channel. A blue chest of drawers and a light pink vanity. You can see the blend better on the blue piece. Unfortunately, the pink one doesn't show up well because I'm blending it with white.

I hope this information finds you in a better head space. 1st, If you were to look up blue prints for building a coffee table and an ottoman, there are a lot of similarities. Also, to your point, some ottomans are structurally unimpressive, just as coffee tables can be. To avoid acquiring such flimsy furniture, I use my experience and knowledge to inspect how the table is crafted. Thankfully, this one is all real wood, has a center stretcher along with strong corner joints. 2nd, I wouldn't put up a video misinforming viewers. I make these videos to help viewers and I literally profit pennies, if that, for doing so. I'm honest when projects are difficult, I'm honest with prices, I have no sponsors, and if a project doesn't work, I'll scrap it. Lastly, I understand viewing a video through a negative perspective can lead to the desire to be... well... negative and further your burning need to prove a point. However, might I suggest a bit of research prior to a comment like this. I mean, if you think you're right, you should back it up with the correct knowledge. I'll go ahead and like and give you a heart because I do appreciate your comment. It allowed me to explain to my viewers and you some valuable information. My coffee table is 25 years old and can easily support 4 adults 😆 I’m excited to try this project! Two years behind but still appreciate the video.

Thank you for watching! 😊 The base paint is a Berh Chalk Paint, and the top coat is a Satin based polyurethane. I've used gold leaf on lots of varieties of paint bases, and they all seem to hold up great. You can use polyurethane or clear furniture wax as a top coat. I haven't had my gold leaf dull when using those products.

Yes! So many uses! Even on smaller DIYs like picture frames and candle stick holders, etc! Mod podge works great! You can use a thin layer as a top coat too! Have fun with your gold leaf 😁✨️

I would use a few coats of polyurethane in satin or semi gloss to keep the shine of the gold leaf while giving it durable protection. Hope this helps!😊

Hi Emily! For this one, I did not sand the jewelry box. I did wait a day for the primer to adhere, which helps when continuing on with paint. You are correct about the process though! I usually sand, clean, prime and paint. 😊 Thanks for the question and watching! ❤️

My guess, gold leaf is the more popular choice. There are some that use silver and other colors. Gold leafing has a history in art and decor and has been elevated in that sense too. For me, it's what I bought to match the colors I have for projects. It would be fun to try other colors out 😊
