I bought a mute a view weeks ago, i love it, it is better for my ear and help me that my bow i less shaking. But it also helped with the view on the bow and bridge because i see it more clear then only a thin bridge (i hope you understand what i wrote here above) ☺️

I actually brought up this topic to my violin teacher previously regarding my difficulty to do full bows, especially when performing multiple crochets in a row (best I can do is up to 3/4 of a whole bow). And I was told that I should still try to aim toward full bows if I can because it 'provides more options' which I also kind of get. But I think I do a decent job of not letting my up-bow be overly crooked or anything, though mine could definitely see improvement.
Your tip of starting the bow near the balance point is something I'll try from now on at home, given the heaviness my usual starting position of bow feels whenever I start a scale.
Also I do have a mirror in my room, admittedly I don't make enough use of it during practice >
