As a website, UA-cam launched in February 2005. The first upload, Jawed Karim’s “Me at the Zoo” was published on April 23rd, 2005. From there, people would create accounts, and upload videos for the world wide web to see. According to the blogger Nandroid, by June 16th, 2005 there were at least 169 UA-cam uploads on the site. Several have been lost to history over time, but others have been pre...

Damn, George is spot on with his predictions here. They were already in motion, but post covid its getting even closer to his prediction
Very much so. People have made a lot of videos about how it feels like there aren’t as many “mid-budget” film releases, and how streaming series feel highly serialized these days and like watching an 8-10 hour movie. Well I think it could be argued that when streaming took off in the mid to late 2010’s, ideas that could have been greenlit by studios as mid-budget films started to become greenlit as season long streaming shows that are incredibly serialized, and perhaps that might not have had the best plan to continue should they succeed and the streamer want to renew them. I recommend the videos on Netflix by the UA-camr Captain Midnight to describe that criticism of streaming series if you want a more thorough explanation. Streaming changed a lot about the entertainment industry, and I don’t know if George Lucas realized just how spot on what he said in this interview in 2013 would prove to be one day. Also, when Spielberg mentioned that there would be a lot of mega budget film flops, he summed up 2023 in 2013 perfectly.

Not bad, though mercado del Albert kuyp and Pandas at the San Diego Zoo have been found full length with no mirrored reuploads from the 20 oldest videos on UA-cam.
I didn’t realize there was more to those two than what I saw. Either way, thank you for checking out the upload of the videos. It would be cool if Dr J. Reincarnated by kaizenamazen, or more uploads from the initial founders Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim could be found someday. But for now what you see here might be the oldest 100 UA-cam videos that can be watched.

They are right, except that instead of saying "television" they mean streaming!
Streaming was just becoming mainstream in 2013 when this aired, and has arguably gradually overtook linear television (broadcast and cable alike) over the past half decade. Even if there are some good programs on linear television, they end up on streaming shortly after being broadcast on television, and there are arguably very few unique experiences on linear television left aside from live news and sporting events.
@@fortynights1513 Streaming was already mainstream then. Netflix's Starz deal in 2008 made that a reality. By 2010 streaming viewership was outpacing satellite/cable with the exception of sports holdouts. Don't forget Apple's huge misstep in 2007 that created Hulu.

George predicts everything.
What George Lucas essentially argues here is that theaters would prioritize major franchise films, with everything that isn’t that caliber of box office attraction migrating to cable television or streaming. And in some ways, ten years later he was right.
One other thing: I think it could be argued that some streaming programs that have seasons that have been described as a ten hour movie could have been envisioned as mid budget films but greenlit by studios as seasons of streaming programs. What do you think?

Don't worry good to see commercials from GSN
They’ve had quite a few interesting ones over their history
i remember this
There are more like the voiceover when a show ends because they are privated or deleted
There are plenty of uploads of up next segments that have been taken down over the years. Fortunate that I was able to assemble a short compilation of every variant I could think of and that this has lasted as long as it has.
The green and blue one from 2:25 is the one i like the most. That's from my favorite era of Game Show Network. I remember seeing those on TV when i was 11 & 12 years old.
It’s neat to see what GSN was like before I moved to America much less before I started watching it (pre-1999), when I was watching it religiously (1999-2003), the disaster of the 2004 rebrand, when I got back into the network (2005-2009). and when I lost interest and ultimately gave up watching (2010-present). I’ll give GSN one thing: their originals are exclusively studio game shows instead of reality shows. We have Buzzr for the classic game show fix, but it’s not perfect.
It's definitely interesting to contrast all of the different eras of the channel in one video graphically and in terms of the composition of GSN's lineup. The first roughly two and a half years featured a smooth jazz theme and the channel was dominated by older game shows (black and white and panel in particular). The channel's promos had a more colorful palate in the late 90's and early 2000's (orange, blue and green being most prominent). During which point we see a number of originals (Lingo and Whammy most notably), as well as more shows that weren't from Goodson-Todman shown more prominently (due to the brief dark period, a number of Barry-Enright and Chuck Barris properties that otherwise wouldn't be as prominent got airtime), as well as Let's Make A Deal, The Price is Right, Press Your Luck, and Pyramid. After the 2004 rebrand, most of the graphics of the channel were black and blue, and this period had the best idents in my opinion (the falling house of cards and conveyor belt being my two favorites personally). There had been a couple of reality shows on the channel before the rebrand, but those shows were advertised more prominently in 2004 and earlier 2005. Interestingly though, for as much as the reality shows were advertised, you could still find older game shows from the 70's and 80's in the daytime (I vividly remember the lineup including Match Game PM, Body Language, Dawson's Feud, Blockbusters, Password Plus, and the $100,000 Pyramid for a good period), and black and white shows in the late night slots (Black & White Overnight as they called it). The reality shows occupied an hour or two in primetime most weeks, but the lineup from 04-08 was still arguably well rounded as a collective. We also got a number of specials as well. The black and blue era is the channel I grew up watching personally, and while the reality shows may not have fit the tone the channel had set for itself, the channel was still very interesting in my opinion. Then the logo becomes nine boxes in mid 2008, and the black and white shows lost their place (I don't recall many black and white game shows being reran from that point on), and reruns of more contemporary shows became more prominent on the lineup. It's understandable to try and update your lineup, but for me, a lot of the older shows left the network, and I started to tune out. Though I will say that Catch 21 should be considered a solid re-imagining of Gambit. Then in 2012 or so, they started spamming Steve Harvey's Family Feud. A fine show in my opinion, but airing one show for several hours on end can get very repetitive. Haven't paid much attention since, but last time I checked their schedule it looked ok (and to their credit, no show looked particularly overexposed), but nothing compared to their first 15 years. Thank you for checking out the compilation!
4:24 I remember these too. We saw Chuck and Shandi, but for most of those bumpers, the models wore the fashion that’s representative of the decade the program aired. Around 2006, GSN’s programming was heading back into studio based game shows after the reality shows flopped.
If you look back at the promos from 2004 and very early 05, the reality shows were airing in Primetime, and were heavily promoted. After that, really only the casino night shows stuck around longer (High Stakes Poker most notably). In retrospect, I would probably take the GSN of 2004-05 over the GSN of 2012-2018 or so. Say what you want about the reality and casino shows, but they never came close to taking over the entire lineup like Steve Harvey’s Family Feud often did in the 2010’s. Even in 2004 and 05 (let alone later in the black and blue period), older game shows could still be found throughout their daytime lineups, and black and white overnight was still a thing in late night as well. At least that’s what I think. What do you think?
Thanks for crediting!! You're the first in my two years of archiving to do so.
You are very welcome! Out of curiosity, do you have any footage of the special itself? Or any other promos for it?
@@fortynights1513 No sadly, the tape this was on only consisted of Brady Bunch episodes.
2:34 to 3:03 the bumpers I grew up with.
We had "Sirloin and Brew", I'm sure. Is my memory correct?
Sounds like a tasty dish. I never actually went to a Steak & Ale. I just came across their ads, thought they looked and sounded cool (the smooth jazz music from the Houston ads from 1986, and the two with Whitney Houston in particular), and would make for a good compilation.
