The two things I love the most are my two sons. Well, actually its bikes and tech, but that's just between us.
I've owned, ridden, raced and crashed bikes since I was 16 and have never been able to break the cycle. Now, I have a few of bikes that give me almost everything I need for my riding and travelling. Motorcycles used to be such a singular experience, shared only in recollection down the pub or at the cafe, but technology is my other passion and sharing these experiences has always been a goal.
Two decades before the drones we see on the market today, I made my on quad-copter out of balsa wood, electric motors and type 'D' batteries. It never really worked, I bought a 30 RC copter but although that worked I couldn't fly it. Now technology has caught up with my aspirations, I'm fully embracing and learning it.
My first experience of joining tech and bikes was getting a mate to film my DT175 with my silent 8mm movie camera. Let's see if I can do a bit better this time...

TZR 250 Rebuild Supercut - The Movie - 2+ Hours, No Ad Breaks
This full length movie represents a years work on my TZR 250. The scene is set from a desire to get a 2 stroke motorcycle after 30 years of four stroke bikes. I found a TZR and brought it back in 2020, but the bike had all sorts of issues. I took steps on the slippery slope as I fixed one thing then another. I was now too invested in my bike to give up and after 3 years it paid off and I had a working TZR 250 3XV.
Now this story starts with the first motorcycle crash I've had this century. What seemed like a slow speed crash that would easily be repaired it turned out the problems just kept coming. After one terrible twist of fortune I was beaten. I nearly did give up. BUT this was MY bike, and it needed to live again.

Just came across your channel well I do see Yamaha 350 ypvs in the background I’ve just got me a very nice Kawasaki s3a 400 p plate 1975 I’m in the process of recommissioning it
Bit of story behind the RD. I had one as my 2T pride and joy but about 8 years ago I had to sell it. Only got £1800 for it and I was gutted. Some years later a realised how much of a mistake that was and got the TZR. Now after I’d crashed the TZR and the fork straightening had failed to fix it I was going to throw in the towel. It was then I saw the RD advertised, just like my old one. Rode it 250 miles home, never selling the RD or TZR now! Will be great to see your S3a when it’s up and running! Rare indeed!
@@mototoki thanks mate for the reply

Brought back fond memories ripping around on my old TZR 125 (2RK) in the late 90's. Rebuilt the engine twice (failed oil pump then later crank bearing failure) and regret not keeping it going but had to put her to rest in the end. Hope you have better luck ❤
Thanks! 🤩 I hope at least the crank will be ok, I got the SP crank, but an engine rebuild is almost a certainty with these! The 125 shares so much with the 3XV, my screen is a TZR 125 - what a blast it must have been in the 90’s. I was on a GSX 250 back then - very boring in comparison
@mototoki I bought mine for £700 very, very used and can't have spent much more than the same again on repairs and parts in the 4 years it was running but it was my only transport as a skint student and I rode it everywhere... amazed at the cost of them now 😱
@Alienargg I agree, the prices are insane these days. Mate of mine sold a TZR for over £10k a few months ago - admittedly it was 100% original but mad for a 40bhp restricted bike!! I had an RG500 back in the day, those are £20k+ now. £700 was a bargain 👍
How tall are you? I tried my mates 3XV & 3MA and found the 3MA bit more roomy for me at 6ft tall.
@@bryansuperduke1290r 5’11” and the 3XV is a squeeze with the restrictions of full leathers. My RD 350 feels like a comfy armchair in comparison! I did a 250 mile ride on the RD, I’d not make 50 on the TZR!
@@mototoki Yes, I’ve found the 3MA and KR1S fit me a lot better than the 3XV. I’m looking getting another 2 stroke after having LCs, and hopefully finally get a 3MA.
@bryansuperduke1290r 3MA Would be excellent. The decade of development between the RD and the TZR really shows in the quality of the handling. A TZR that’s rideable for more than 50 miles would be awesome, no compromise!
@@mototoki Will be going for a Zeel too, had few in the past but have the handheld programmer, think I’ll be getting the cable and using a laptop as looks so much easier.
@@bryansuperduke1290r I have a dedicated video on the Zeel, it’s a great bit of kit. Dont forget to get the extension cable or plugging in to programmer can be tricky for some installations!! I found out the hard way!

Oh the memories. So good to see her up and about!
It’s been a long road but worth it (I can say that now!!)
Great job buddy. You went through hell with that bike. You got there in the end though. I crashed my 350 hybrid in April due to a loose clip on. Broke for a corner and it gave way, sent me off the road and destroyed it. Cost me 4k so far and it’s still not finished. I feel your pain. I also got that shop to straighten my wheels and they did an amazing job.
Thanks! Yes, this bike did put me to the test, but it was all worth it! Sad to hear about the 350, must have been a lot quicker crash than mine. Hopefully you'll be able to get the parts you need and stories like mine can offer a glimmer of light at the end of the tunnel! Thanks for sharing your story, hope it gets on the road soon and you're recovered too!

With the amount of distracted drivers out there today having a dash cam on your bike is a must today. Having one can make a court case work so much better in your favor. Brings a laser camera footage showing you in the right and a knucklehead driver at fault can be a game changer. Like the features this camera offers and will be investing in the F1 thank you
Was enjoying that until the fookin shit music ffs
This is going to my spank bank!
One of the greatest machines ever built.
Sounds great 👍🏻
Well done on the miss, great escape path choice. Also motorbikes are fun, even more so on a good old 2 stroke.
Thanks! I figured they could have panicked and jumped forward as I passed, so I went behind them instead!! 2 Strokes all the way!
Miss my F2 👍
Jc20? Ive got a jc22 foxeye
Just my plain old RD!!! JC22 is very rare - lucky!
@mototoki 350? 😀 yeah had mine 5 years now still on road mate don't use it too much nowadays as it cripples me to ride it more than a hour lol
@@stu-b1 Yup 350, comfy as an armchair next to my TZR 3XV so I know where you're at! Good job keeping the Foxeye on the road!

I could have used that for the title lol
Reduce your speed
20 is plenty
Its worth it in the end for a 2 stroke. It just is 🙂

I love 2 strokes!! I'm in the process of learning how to edit and make my own videos of my TZR. I just uploaded a small video of my TZR 1kt with no editing just for the heck of it but I need some things before I can start for real. Cheers!

I run a 50 year old bike, and ethanol just isn’t an issue. As long as you follow some basic rules. Ethanol attracts moisture like you say, if you use the bike regularly for example once a week and use a whole tank, it doesn’t get a chance to absorb moisture. turn the fuel tap off and run the bike out of fuel and coast home clutch in, so there is no fuel in the carbs or fuel lines. Decent quality carb rebuild kits and fuel lines are ethanol proof, you get what you pay for. That said I always try to put the best fuel I can through my bike, but sometimes you just don’t have any option, if you’re doing a long European tour etc. I used to have a TZR reverse cylinder back in the day. I have just been kicking myself for selling it. Turn on horizon levelling and calibrate your camera on a known flat surface to get rid of that angle. I would rather listen to your engine than terrible royalty free music. Nice video and good to see my local roads.
Thank you for your comment. Lots of valuable points! There is a split of opinion in the TZR forum also about how to tackle the ethanol in fuel and you are quite right, there is the option not to let the fuel sit in the carbs/lines by running it dry or draining the carbs if you're laying up over winter. I worry about running it dry as both cylinders don't run out at the same time given the difference in length of fuel hose to each carb. I'm also a little set back for draining the carbs as there's no drain screw on these. If the float bowl had the traditional plug at the bottom it'd be easier to swap jetting too without splitting the carbs but I digress!! Good advice though to save quite a bit of cash. I'll look into the ethanol resistant/proof lines but the carb kits are pretty much fit what you can find!!! Shame you got rid of the 3MA, I know how it feels to look back with such regrets. I sold my original RD 350 in 2014-ish when I was skint and only got £1800 for it despite it being a very nice bike. Roll in ten years and my "new" RD 350 cost me £5k. Ouch. Thanks for the advice on the horizon levelling. I have a DJI Action 3 and it doesn't calibrate correctly. I've spent all morning "fixing" this by using sheets of paper under the right side to set a false horizon that counters the skew the camera has. Well, let's see if that fixes it but statically it seems to work, thanks for the advice here. Yes, sorry about the music, I have learned a lesson there, but glad you like the video and thanks once again for you thoughts & advice!!!
@@mototoki I guess the best thing to do is work out what's best for your bike to work around is particular operating requirements You can get fuel that doesn't go off from garden machinery places like the one in Wickham, it's specifically formulated for winter storage.
@@cliveamp Totally agree! I'm going to do some research to see if I can find float bowls with the plug. That'd be a real help, but as you say, if you're running every week you can use pump fuel, just don't let it sit that long and make sure it's dry/has storage fuel before a layup. I get my fuel from Winchester Garden Machinery - they have Aspen on the shelf but that's a product from Anglo American Oil so they are a distributor and you can get any of the product range delivered. It takes a bit of nagging though!!
@@mototoki yep that's the stuff. Expensive but worth it. Sorry I didn't consider the potential problems of no oil going through a two stroke. You forget everything you once knew. When you've been on four strokes for 25 plus years. If I see your bike up at loonies I will come and say hello. Have you been to caffeine and machine over the road at the hut? They do a Japanese night at the beginning of the month.
@@cliveamp Yeah the Aspen is expensive per LTR, but the R-SUR is much better value. Still stupid expensive though! It'll be great to meet up & I'll definitely make another Loomies this year but Caffeine and the Machine sounds good, is that a weekend or week night thing? Going to Hayling Island if the weather is good next week, haven't been there if you forgive the pun!
My dream bike
I'm famous at last, I'll be expecting royalties for my name dropping and showing MY amazing bike. I use storage fuel plus from the same supplier, totally ethanol free too. Btw cost £375 to have the system cleared and the carbs rebuilt, not just rubbers and gaskets but emulsion tubes as well....
I think we can come to an arrangement with the royalties - I'll buy you a cuppa at the Hayling Island bike night! Your experience with ethanol is the main reason I switched after Esso dropped the ball for everyone. Horrendous cost for repair! The bike runs so much better on quality fuel rather than the mix & rot you get off a forecourt. It's like beer from the cask compared with beer from the drip trays!!!
