yes, i agree-bigger cymbals are where it's at. never mess with any crash smaller than a 18inch-avoid big thick loud projection crashes, unless you got the touch and work them, great video and love your approach.

Great video! However, that virgin kick has a subtly different resonance. It might just be that they’re two different drums, but it does sound better. There’s more fundamental tone and fullness to my ear. YMMV, and yes, it is probably subtle enough that most people will never tell the difference. And your points about setup are well stated. Thanks for the effort!

It doesnt matter. If that was the case nobody would port their head. It makes zero difference. Whose really wanting a tom to ring out for 4 seconds. Thats when ppl start to complain that their drums sre too ringy

Hi Brian thank you for your prompt reply. I generally play, pop, pop rock, funk, hard rock, a bit of heavy metal.. not a lot ...no death metal etc. I saw the new Mapex MPX 14 x 8 snare. Since I use a Mapex Venus I thought th3 Mapex MPX would be a good one to go to . But I'm open to suggestions. After all its all about the tone , the sound etc

@@BrianTheChristopher Thanks brother! I have a big drum session coming up that Im engineering for a band Im working with, and I just about pulled the trigger on some Reso-Tones or Reso-Twos, but I figured I should wait until I have some time to experiment with them first, so I just went with Emps/Ambs for this one. Can I ask what model kit you were playing in these vids, and also did you prefer the Reso-Tones or Reso-Twos? And what were the main differences in sound/feel you noticed between the two? Thanks bro!

I bought Resotone 2 for batter heads on my 6 ply maple Ludwig kit a couple years ago. They definitely have a lot of sustain, too much really … they ring forever. That's a pretty easy fix with bit of muffling, however they also produce a very scooped mid-range effect on my drums … the midrange body is really quite lifeless compared to other thick heads like a Remo C. Emperor, which I went back to after several hours w/ the ResoTone 2. The Resotone sound is very bright and slappy with a lot of low end - very modern. Just not my cup of tea.
