This Barringtonia asiatica was originally planted by John Criswick of St. Rose Nursery. What a beautiful tree! It may be the only on on the entire island. You can see it on Lagoon Road, AKA Kirani James Boulevard, across from the gas station.

Moses the lumber man inspects a teak plantation in St. Andrews, Grenada. These trees were planted too close together so many are too small to be usable; however, there are some very good ones as well. Teak is a valuable tropical hardwood and is very easy to grow on Grenada. Don't plant teak too close together or it will not make large trees!
Milling Mahogany in Grenada with the Lumbermate 2000

In this video, Moses of Corinth demonstrates milling mahogany with the LumberMate 2000. Grenada has a variety of valuable tropical hardwoods including blue mahoe, mahogany and teak. Through this sawmill, Moses is able to cut wood and provide beautiful lumber to local furniture makers. This piece of mahogany was over 6' long and 18" wide, making it a particularly valuable log.

    I can't think of a more wasteful, time, and effort consuming way to make charcoal. What a lot of work and wood for such little charcoal.

    I believe there was a tree of this species growing in the Mount Hope area of Trinidad about 15 years ago. Haven't been near the place in years so don't know if the tree still exists.

      Put it this way the harder the wood the longer-term it will last there's special wood for that and u know when it's hard because of the sparks it gives out of (kupairsh ) 👍🏿

    Interesting way of making charcoal.. I feel like this was an incredible amount of work and took a long time though... there are a lot of ways to make it pretty simply, including covering a pile of wood in mud and let it burn for a few hours before plugging up the air holes. That only takes like 6 hours. This took several days. It’s always interesting seeing it done if different ways though.

      More wood more time it takes. And the longer it takes the better d quality of the charcoal,it last longer for kitchen purpose.🤗
