I only review something if I’ve personally played and experienced it, which means reviews can take a while before getting published. I am honest in my reviews; therefore, there is no guarantee they will be positive. I get a high volume of requests which means I may not review something even if I am sent a free copy. If you are interested, please send the item either through email or DriveThru RPG - but always pitch it! Let me know the scenario or system concept, what’s fun about it, and why I should take the time to play it. Thanks for your support, and happy gaming!

Game Master Types in TTRPGs - Which one are you?
The pronunciation of väsen in the beginning was basically flawless! Let me know if you want any help with pronunciation guides for any Swedish names in the future. Not that I don't enjoy the americanized versions too.
I've run all the adventures in A Wicked Secret and Other Mysteries, and I think that it is an exceptional book! This was the first adventure I ran for my Vaesen group. We all loved it, it was a great starter adventure, and it really set the tone for the 30+ adventures I've run since! Somehow, all the characters remain alive/
Keep reviewing Vaesen materials, please! I saw a review of something by Vaesen 7-8 months ago but can't remember what is was... so, please, press forward w/Vaesen... & keep putting out your interesting, informative videos/content... Cheers!
never gonna be able to play this stuff with a group of friends but its dope to know they exist.
If you're interested, there are a bunch of online cons where you can play these kind of games. There is a VaesenCon (www.vaesencon.com/) that happened in Sep this year and you can try and catch next year. Miskatonic Repository Con is this weekend for Call of Cthulhu (tabletop.events/conventions/call-of-cthulhu-miskatonic-repository-con-2024) and Illusion Horror Con happens in December (www.theillusionhorrorcon.events/). I'm sure there are more!
Yeah... I know what you mean... I'd try & incorporate as much as I could in my Call of Cthulhu setting...
You pronounce Väsen better than most ttrpg-tubers I've heard!
Nice! :)
The lore and the universe for this game kicks ass.
My first contact with Kult was by reading about it in a TTRPG magazine back in '97, a few years before I had the chance to actually play any TTRPG. I was a preteen back then but also already a horror-hound, so the themes of the game really fascinated me. Fast forward to almost 30 years later and I still haven't got the chance to run a Kult game, but I definitely intend to change that LOL. Anyways, great review! You seem to be pretty cool and really passionate about the hobby, I'm hitting that subscribe button right now 😊
Hi XPLovecraft, I have 2 questions about the mechanics as i am about to be a GM for the scenario Gallery of Souls. Maybe you can help me. - First, for the stability, basically it will have consequence only on the disadvantage rolls, not if your player is in a bad situation? For example your player is in a situation where he need to act under pressure, an unfocused stability will not give him a -1 penalty on the roll? - The second and i am really confuse on this one. In combat, the players have the opportunity to do a roll to avoid damage, but if they fail. Are they going to do a second roll to endure the injury so ? Or is it 2 separate rolls and they can only chose 1 option. The rule books doesn't really help on that topic i thought. Thanks for reading me, hope you can help. Great video!
1- You are correct about stability. The -1 penalty only applies to when players roll on their disadvantage (things like bad reputation, cursed, fanatic, etc.) 2- If a player is in combat, and someone goes to hit, they can roll "avoid harm". If they fail, the GM chooses if they "end up in a worse spot than before" or if they have a chance at injury. So two options for the GM. A) The GM may just say for example: the gunshot misses but they've backed you into a corner. This puts the player in a worse spot. or B) The gunshot hits. In this case the player then rolls "endure injury". If they succeed, perhaps it's just a graze - no wound. Partial success could be a hit to the arm causing a serious wound. Failure could be a hit to a vital organ causing a critical wound. So depending on what the GM chooses with the "avoid harm" roll will depend if they move to step two, which is "endure injury". Hope this helps and good luck with your game!
Neat! Guess I'm going to have a look at the chase rules again...
Is this a remake of Kult: Death is Only the Beginning RPG and the related Kult CCG?
Dat thumbnail is perfect 😂
Love this! Thanks xplovecat!
I have to start the campaign tomorrow, thanks for this, I really should skim the books….
Actually, the Demiurge is gone, but the Archons and Death angels do enjoy feeding on our souls for sure!
And! Where did you get those postcards?
Great review. This is my favorite TTRPG. I love the system but I do agree that as a gamemaster it takes a bit to get into it and understand it. I would never play it with too many players. 3-4 is the maximum for me.
I've played this scenario. I really enjoyed it. Sandbox scenarios are hard to pull off but this one really works. Also, the infection table is a really great resource.
Excellent! More Vaesen please. :-)
Awesome!
I love KULT: Divinity Lost. I ran a game of it a year ago and my players still talk about it and how it scared the bejeezus out of them. We all loved it. It was a blast. 😊
It is definitely a game you need to get comfortable running. Nice intro for new comers =)
Great review, XP! Thank you. 😊
Fully agree with everything about the layout. The GM section gets a bit stuck in its own design to be actually useful in a lot of places. I do HIGHLY recommend the Gamemaster's Guide Beyond Darkness and Madness even if you don't play KULT. It is an amazing resource for any type of TTRPG horror game.
As the author of the gm's guide, you officially just made my day. Thank you so much for the kind words! 🤩
Wonderful review. Thoughtful, concise, and fair. Really well put together. Thank you for bringing more attention to our game. Been writing for _KULT_ since second edition, so elated that it's getting more love these days 🙂 Definitely need to get a game together!
@@DayInDaLife Nice callout! The original _KULT_ popped up around 1991; a couple years before _The Invisibles_ but yeah... pretty sure the gnostic horror vibe was in the 90s' zeitgeist. Indeed, the early _Invisibles_ comics inspired some of my recent work on _KULT: Divinity Lost_ - great crossover potential :-)
This was a very good review of a game system I personally find very hard to like.
<3<3<3
Just starting the campaign and soooooo need this. Thanks and Subscribed!
Huh. So edgerunners is an actual thing in the rpg. Fun!
As a long time Swedish RPG player, I like the setting of Vaesen, like most of the Fria Ligan settings I have played. Unfortunately, Fria Ligan´s game mechanics really sucks. It´s terrible and flawed in so many ways that my group doesn´t play them very often. When we do, its strictly for the settings.
Vaesen is one of my favorite games! Can you elaborate why you don't like it? Not crunchy enough?
@@martinMARTIN244 There are many things really, I´ll list some of them off the top of my head. For a start I´m not a fan of d6 systems, but thats a small thing. In Vaesen I don´t like the relationship between character aspects, why would I want to start out hating one of my fellow players? I don´t like how conditions work, the motivations, etc... These are things that add to a game, but I want to flesh it out myslef, find some of it out as I play and develop my character. I prefer a game with more skills. In Vaesen they are too broad. Not enough chance of making your character unique. Some things you might be able to house rule, but when you have to house rule too much, it makes for an annoying system.
@@mickee7526 hmm fair points. I don't usually fill out the relationships, I like those to develop organically. Conditions can be a bit weird especially since the players choose which condition to apply to themselves. And because Vaesen is, at its heart, a rules-light system, the skills are more focused than d100 Cthulhu for example. The limited amount of skills is meant to emphasize they type of play the game encourages. Essentially, I understand if it's not everyone's cup of tea, especially if you prefer a more complex game. But it is a great rules-light game.
@@martinMARTIN244 Yes I much prefer the Call of Cthulhu system. In my opinion CoC has the best game system. Stats, skills, etc all works very well. And I don´t run it rules heavy, I just want a great system from the start.
TY
There are two more reasons for the investigators to go to Australia [SPOILERS]: The opportunity to find tomes with more mythos knowledge and potentially learn some spells; and secondly, the opportunity to get a couple of lightning guns that could help them out in other cities.
Betrayal. Genius - YOINK
The prop kit from HPLHS is amazing!
thanks for your videos on the campaign, they've been super helpful ! 🙏
By any chance could you give more details on the type of magic used to cure Eloise Vane of her curse and what the costs and materials were? Thanks!
Funny. I'm about to run this for my group starting tomorrow night. I appreciate your insights, I'm finding them really helpful in these final stages of session prep.
I have really been wanting to run KULT: Divinity Lost but this concept of using the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse is really nifty. Going to check this one out.
Do you think you'll do a video on the arkham horror rpg?
Didnt know you were getting into Kult Divinity Lost. I dont know if the system is for me but i have enjoyed Seth Skorkowskys videos on the system so i expect ill enjoy your Kult content as well
thanks for this my friend it is appreciated
Thank you so much for this video! I started playing America with my player and then we had a 6 month break because of scheduling issues and this was perfect to remember the key points in short time! Thanks ❤
Thank you so much for this! Trying to keep my players on their toes for this chapter!
Is Alexander Catcott really a real person? I can't find any info about him, can you help me, please?
Excellent work thank you! its sounds like it was really light on preparation requirements?
Thank you for the review! I like how you give ideas on how to modify the scenario.
Hello, great video thank you, CoC is my go to rpg, however I'm struggling to find a hardback book in the uk Any one know where I can purchase this book in the UK please Thank you.
Sounds like you had fun. What kinds of mechanics for diving are used in the scenario? Is there a kind of mini-game for things like how much breathable air the Investigators have, or for avoiding tearing their diving suits during the exploration?
Very cool to see someone reviewing CoC. Subscribed!
Another excellent video more please 😀
Hey really good video. Glad you made a Tech. It's my fav Role in the game.
It's one of my favs as well!
I love using the fairfolk in Call of Cthulhu scenarios! It is not done enough.
Totally agree. I love it!
@@XPLovecat I was thinking I might post the scenatio I wrote online to see if any other keepers would find it at all useful.
