I can't still believe that Batman Forever was just one year later of The Mask

I wish they went less goofball, comedy heel for this character but they got Jim Carrey and that was the direction they wanted, expanding on the goofy points of Batman Returns. The really lame part of this movie for me was when The Riddler threw the grenades in the bat cave and they did the baseball music and little ding noises when grab his balls. I remember at a 12 year old looking at my brother in disgust (I think I was 12).

Had the vhs of that movie when I was a kid. Watched like hundreds of times. Pretty nostalgic.

Edward murders Stickley and then hacked into the surveillance cameras and edited footage of Stickley to make it look like he committed suicide. Then he pretended to cry.

Just recently watched this, and this scene in particular made me realize that this may very well be the best sequence in the whole film. It seems like it should've been much longer and darker.

With all of batman's high tech gadgets he couldn't be bothered to put security cameras around his gate? he wouldve figured out who sent him the first riddle right away.

This always made me laugh for some reason. It might just be the dummy’s laugh mixed with the song in the background that takes away it being scary at all.

As an adult, I have found a new appreciation for this movie. The more times I watch it, the more I realize how great of a Batman movie it is.

Forever is a very good movie with a dazzling production design and some of the best action scenes in any Batman movie, but this 1 min scene in Edward Nygma’s apartment above the (green) Criss Cross Laundry is simply perfect. That scene is all we need to peer into Edward’s lonely, obsessive life. He has just one line, a question delivered to The Guesser, which is just perfect. Add the whimsical yet dark Flaming Lips song, Bad Days, and you can see Schumacker’s craft. Plus, Jim Carrey is himself a dark, yet maniacal creative genius. This scene manages to transcend the entire movie.

This is a fun scene, but I can't believe Wayne Manor doesn't have a security camera out at the front gate. The mystery of who left the riddle should have been solved the following morning.

You know, in retrospect it shouldn't have taken Wayne as long as it did for him to figure out who was leaving the riddles. He could have just looked at the gate camera, as well as the office camera, and seen that it was Nygma.

I love this scene so much. The songs melody is childlike yet menacing, like a long forgotten music box, whilst it’s soft, relaxed vocals depict depressing realities and maniacal revenge fantasies. The apartment is lit brightly, but purposely leaves dark, shadowy corners. The unknown, hidden within plain sight. The further in we go, the creepier the imagery, culminating in something hidden deep within - the terrifying fortune teller with its truly disturbing laugh, that Edward then goes on to speak directly to - as though it were alive. Almost like it were a friend who’s in on his plans. I love it all. It captures the term “criminally insane” beautifully. We know everything we need to about the inner workings of Nygma’s mind in one short scene. Cinematic brilliance 👌

Funny how a 2 minute scene gives so much info and background to a character with no exposition at all. Whoever did the set design for this movie is a genius aswell.
