Occultic;Nine — 10 Years Later
As of the day I'm uploading this video, it has been exactly 10 years since the original Japanese release of volume 1 of Occultic;Nine. However, since 2017, the IP has remained on complete hiatus with us fans still waiting for volume 4 and "Occultic;Nine Elite".
Given the circumstances, I figured I'd make a short little personal reflection regarding my thoughts on the series.
As always, special thanks to the members of the SciADV Wiki Editing server.

Naoki Urasawa's Most Depressing Work - A Review of "Happy!"

Naoki Urasawa is often considered to be one of the greatest mangaka of all time. Yet his personal favourite of his own works - Happy! - remains incredibly obscure among English-speaking audiences. As far as I'm aware, I'm the first to make a video on it in English. This video serves as a review of Naoki Urasawa's "Happy!", the second of his two sports manga. Why the Steins;Gate Movie is "Canon"

Steins;Gate's movie can absolutely be considered canon. And it does not contradict the rules of the series. In the past decade, countless English-speaking Steins;Gate anime onlies have mistakenly believed the Steins;Gate movie to be non-canon and unimportant to the franchise. But with recent localizations of wider SciADV series content, the fandom's understanding of the movie has changed drasti...
My Favourite Chapters in 20th Century Boys

I made this video several years back but never published it until now due to some personal insecurities and dissatisfaction with the video. But after watching a recently released 20th Century Boys fan animation, I was given a push by some friends to just go out and publish it. It's almost completely unaltered compared to how it was a few years back. Anyways, this video's a little rough but plea...

    Great in depth review of Urusawa's underrated gem, and one I gotta make the time to check out especially due to its parallel to my favorite work of this manga creator, Yawara. Maybe you could do a review on that manga, too someday.

      @@bassman.sharingan12341 Wow, that's great news. Can't wait to see it and reflect upon your keen analysis. In particular how you feel about Yawara's plight, her supporting cast especially Jogoro ( imo, mixed feelings about the old master/manipulator) and insight upon the sport of judo. Also, just how kawaii is Yawara among Urusawa leading ladies. Be well man and thanks for the response.

    Going off the Urasawa trend, I've been collecting the Asadora! manga over the past year or two and I very much enjoy it. Not only is virtually all of it drawn by Urasawa himself (instead of backgrounds done by his editors), but it has a very engaging and relatable thematic undercurrent of the children of the day dealing with immense expectations and having to fight what surmounts to an existential crisis unlike any other humanity has previously dealt with. I don't think it's an allegory for global warming but that sentiment is very easily applied. The characters who don't think themselves good enough become drug addicts, try to change themselves, or keep their efforts secret from their contemporaries. It's a basic kaiju story but it's also about the human effort to survive the insurmountable and regain what the world has unfairly taken away, the elite of our world placing its safety upon the youth.

    This is a great video. Good on you for putting this out there and getting more people into the larger Sciadv series. I personally never thought much of the series, I think Chaos Head Noah is quite mediocre and Steins Gate, while good, I find to be significantly overrated. But then I read Chaos Child, and that is one of the few 10/10 visual novels I've ever read. It's something I'd call a genuine masterpiece and it blew me away and shocked me to my core more times than I can count. It's one of those few stories where, if memory wiping a story from my mind was possible, I'd pay a ludicrous amount of money to do it and experience this tale blind again. My overall point for anyone reading is, even if you don't like, or aren't particularly fond of, an entry in this series, that doesn't mean you shouldn't give the others a try. Despite being in the same series and having similar names, and even covering similar themes and topics, these are VERY differrent stories with VERY different characters and plots, despite how similar they may seem on the surface.

    Watching this video again, I have a question. If anyday someone decides to adapt these visual novels of Science Adventure into live-action, will 2 or 3 seasons of one hour episodes will be enough? If you can, please answer guys.

    • @bassman.sharingan12341
      @bassman.sharingan12341 10 днів тому

      Adapting SciADV into live-action - even if Japanese-made - would be quite challenging. Ignoring concept-related difficulties, you'd ideally need a full season of hour-long episodes for each entry. But each entry is of a different length so the number of episodes would be different for each title. S;G for instance could work in 8 hour-long episodes. But R;N or C;C would need 12 hour-long episodes.

    Soo, just finished Chaos;Head Noah, and I want to continue with ChuChu cuz you said it's important for the series, but I can't find it in english anywhere.... My question is how do you know it has lore implications and it's not just a dating romcom spinoff? Can I read about the plot somewhere before I move on to Steins;Gate? I don't want to wait years until an english patch, and by the time I'm done with the sci-fi adventure series, whatever info Chuchu has will be irrelevant. Can I move on to S;G without info from Chuchu? How badly will it affect my experience of future titles?

    • @spheromancer_
      @spheromancer_ 16 днів тому

      The english translation and port is still being worked on, so you won't find it yet. I haven't read it, but from what I hear it shouldn't be that bad to skip. Something in it happens to Takumi and that thing is essentialy spoiled in later entries, but you won't miss anything in the plot of later entries. TLDR: Later entries spoil C;H Love ChuChu, but as far as I know ChuChu isn't important to the plot of the series beyond knowing what happens to the cast of C;H. Again though, I haven't read it myself, so take it with a grain of salt.

      @@kuraihikari5785 I actually was considering making a video on the implications of Anonymous;Code! The issue is I'd need A LOT of people to help me with that considering the sheer magnitude of the reveals present within it. It'd also take a ridiculous amount of time to do considering all the entries I have to go back to to find the relevant lines for. And Steins;???'s release may render some of the video obsolete not too long after its release. So I am a bit wary with doing something like it.

    • @kuraihikari5785
      @kuraihikari5785 17 днів тому

      @@bassman.sharingan12341 Yeah I understand it’s quite a daunting topic. The game practically expects you to have an encyclopaedic knowledge on the rest of the series to catch all the references and things it recontextualises. Although that’s partly why a video covering all the implications might be a good resource for fans that felt a bit alienated by anonymous;code, even if they enjoyed it by itself. But it definitely is a big task that would take a while even with multiple people. As for Steins;???, it’s probably best not to worry too much about it since we practically know nothing about it. Even if it does add some new context, it will most likely build off of ideas Anonymous;code already introduced. Or who knows, considering most people have only seen Steins;Gate alone, they might just say ‘screw it’ and leave referencing the grander science adventure series to a minimum.
