EXCELENTE Y MARAVILLOSO! PARA MI LA MEJOR VERSION DE LA 5th DE BEETHOVEN QUE DIRIGIO EL MAESTRO BERNSTEIN.
With Bernstein's conducting of the Vienna Orchestra, whether the following images are intended by the composer or conductor, I know not, nevertheless, I can see the seasons of Sibelius' native Finland in dramatic detail. Bernstein seems to bring out Sibelius' depiction of the harshness of life in the North country-how easily things can go awry and the anxiety it brings. I can see the springtime flurry of activity of the animals rushing about in the 1st and 2nd movements, as if time is short before winter darkness falls again. In the fourth, I can see a crew of sailors straining at the oars against the notorious waves in the open North Sea as the storm approaches and the Maelstrom threatens to take them under. Then, just when all seems lost, the clouds seem to break, as they see land, and they, at the end of human exhaustion, reach the shore in heroic fashion. I see none of this with the other versions as they are more mechanical.
Sting, listen Gershwin works a lot. 😊
Capolavoro!
By far Bernstein’s best 5th, and among the best ever recorded.

My old music theory teacher Morris Lang on the taxi horn.
Beautiful strong symphony, with Prokofiev inspiration here and there. One of his great symphonies.

감사합니다 ❤😂😂
Harold Wright?
maestro, soloists and musicians have already died, and the boys will now be grandfathers in 2025
Böhm conducts very slow tempos, especially in the Trio Et incarnatus. It makes me feel sorry for the little soloist boy. I have never heard this mass so slow and so long. But it is an important document and Peter Schreier is magnificent.
And together, those who were considered the best conductor and the best pianist of the 20th century…
The Newbould completion makes so much sense to me. I have always loved the symphony unfinished, and welcome the Scherzo. The Rosamunde entre-Acte is not as satisfying to my ears, however the very fact that it was composed in the same time period and has identical orchestration and key signature just simply makes sense.
One of the best recordings I’ve ever seen alongside Yefim Bronfman,Evgeny Kissin,Grigory Sokolv,
In my opinion (which is strictly personal) this is the best recording of this concert. But please prove me wrong 😄
10:43 orchestra hit
@6:30 The woodwinds are thunderously ahead of the strings. It’s very underwhelming. How can this happen with an orchestra with such credentials?
A landmark great symphony. It is a shame it is not revered by the music going public on the same level as Rhapsody in Blue. Credit must be given to Leonard Bernstein for making America really aware of its greatest composer. I think the same way about Aaron Copland's 3rd Symphony. These two are Americana at its finest.
Why does the theme of the second movement (Allegretto) of the 7th fascinate me so much? Each time it begins to play, I stop everything I'm doing. Feels like it's taking me to some place and time that aren't mine. This recording is certainly one of the most beautiful and melancolical I have heard so far. Maybe, o probably for sure, the circumstances as described by @happypancake6728 explain it. Thanks Lennyforever for posting and @happypancake6728 for giving us intimate background information.
Way, way too slow. If it wasn't for the label, I would have thought John Cage was conducting the symphony. I'm surprised Bernstein approved the release of this recording; or did he?
study the score and you will see how great was bernstein.....this is a master conducting!!
Excellent!
Have listened to many renditions of Beethoven’s 7th symphony, but listened to this, by Bernstein, on recommendation and my mind was blown away by the clarity, the interpretation and the brilliant orchestra with impeccable conducting by Bernstein. A masterpiece. Thank you

Grazie Wolfang..eri e sei un regalo non meritato dall'umanità! Grazie Leonard per questa meravigliosa esecuzione che ascolto ormai da molti anni...
wonderful
Grazie infinite!!! Concerto - capolavoro!!!!!
what a stunning performance!!
A magnificent performance of this grand romantic symphony. Liszt is still somewhat underrated as a composer, possibly due to the fame of his virtuoso pieces, and his extraordinary life style. He can be said to personify the Romantic era! Thank you for posting this wonderful performance.
I'm a Copland contrarian, preferring early Copland (especially Dance Symphony) and late Copland (especially Music for a Great City). Not so much the middle works.

Fancy Free begins @ 29:15
it was written in 1901, but the world premier was in 1951, 50 years later, and after many corrections in the score may be by the same composer and Benrstein later who had the honor to interpret it by the first time, and it was considered the first american music, i mean the first american symphony, there are some influence of european composers specially in the 3 movments, the disonance in the last chord is totally intentional . BRAVO!
Merveilleux Merci beaucoup
En los largos moviéndose iniciales, pensativos, Shostakovich se sentía cómodo. Largamente inspirado.
