Haha it is so frustrating at times! Especially with younger kids and not having learned any of this myself. I don’t know if you watched any of the book clubs with the creators of the curriculum but they basically insist that if the 4 pages are to much to customize it to your family. They’ve given all types of examples like just focusing on the one type of problem and then you can do that on the following pages since they repeat the same information etc. My plan is if it becomes to much to focus on one page and the pages that match in the other days and then possibly go back through it again since we school year round. The flash cards are awesome too if you have them! Looking forward to any updates!

I started having dizziness in 2019 after the birth of my 5th child. I didn’t start getting actual vertigo around until 2 1/2 years into it, I believe. I have been checked out by multiple doctors had many scans and nothing found thankfully. My mom was diagnosed with Ménière’s and when I went to the ent I told them- they told me I don’t have it? I still deal with vertigo… it’s awful. I do use the LMNT packets. We try not to eat out much. When we do, I mainly order only the quarter pound patty from McDonald’s - that’s it. I’ll get several of those. Not sure what the sodium content is in that- I just know it doesn’t have all the awful stuff in it. My family and I are trying to be as natural and whole food as possible. I found for me when I get the vertigo attacks, laying down on my right ear (that’s the side that seems to be the issue for me) and making sure I stay on that ear until it’s all gone. Could be days…. Then gradually work my way to my back- I try to stay off laying in the left side. Seems a lot of vertigo is happening from my research. I don’t know if you watch yonite, she has a channel called the steady coach. She has been very helpful- she has a lot of videos. Thank you for doing this video - I am one of the ones who asked. It is very hard being the one who suffers through this AND I know it’s hard in the spouse too. My advise for anyone who is helping a loved one through is to be kind and patient. We hate this as much as you do.

Your baby adding his own little noise at the end! 🤣 I recently came across your channel and I love your style. I was influenced by Jady Alverez about six years ago to go the route of "earlier is better" for academics. My daughter knew all of her letter sounds before she turned 2 was reading "the cat sat on the mat" type sentences at 2.5-3 years old. Fast forward, my 3 girls just had birthdays this winter and turned 6, 3 and 1. My 3 year old knows most or all of letter sounds and recognizes numbers up to 10, colours and some basic shapes. Very on track and even a little advanced still, as far as CM philosophy goes (from my very new understanding of CM). We hardly ever do "school" with her. I have done flashcard work with her at most 20 times in that last year so most of what she knows is residual from then and otherwise learning from books, playing, talking with us and hearing her big sister talk about such things. My 6 and 3 year old have been doing Brainquest Smart Cards together and its one of the sweetest ways I've ever seen them interact with each other. 🥺🥰 I feel myself leaning more toward the delaying of formal academics these days as life is busier now than when I only had my firstborn. Teaching my first to read so young was a blessing because she could entertain herself very easily with books and videos games before her other siblings came along. The younger two will not require this as they have each other to play with. My 6 year old also has a high reading level, about 3rd grade or so. She read words from a reading placement test all the way up to 10th or 11 grade, but I don't know how accurate the test was as they were expected to know the the meaning of the word and also how to use it in a sentence - not just phonetically read them like my daughter did. So anyway, my daughter has mostly been doing Easy Peasy level 1 Math, LA and the first Reader (all of the red books) and doing super well with it! Buuuuuut I also am getting into older resources such as Ray's, McGuffey's, Primary Language Lessons by Emma Serl, Life of Fred and so on. I own or will own all of these soon as I scored big on FB Marketplace one of them being a Childcraft Encyclopedia set complete and in nearly brand new condition for only $15 Canadian!!! Those will be soooo amazing for much of the informal learning in the early years. 😊 I also have several workbooks from Sherry Hayes at MomDelights and also Laurel Page from The Land of Kakiak. Our newest book from Laurel is the Everything Notebook for grades 1-3 and it looks perfect for doing open ended note-booking in the different subjects. It seems like something you might like for Phoenix someday as its similar to the worksheet you showed in this video, but levelled up for when he can tolerate more writing. My 6 year old is quite similar to Phoenix it seems. Can be very high energy and silly, advanced reader, not much trouble with math and less into the act of writing. My daughter really struggled with forming letters and numbers correctly without tracing. I had to wait for her brain to be ready to articulate her hand movements correctly. It seemed to click overnight sometime around age 5 or late 4. So drawing was also difficult and she basically recreated the same few drawings for a year or so hahaha. Adding a baby in my belly whenever I was pregnant lol. Not sure what to say now. I've rambled quite long enough, I think. I'm excited to see more content from you and maybe we can chat a little bit on instagram if you have it? I chat with Laurel a few times a month these days lol. Its super helpful chatting with other moms who have similar aged children and are using similar or the same resources! God, I pray that You bless the Rivera family and guide them along this messy and beautiful journey of schooling and raising their boys. In the name of Jesus, amen. 🤍

It sounds like we have a lot in common. I’m actually considering Laurel’s everything notebook. How do you like it? We just got our middle son her My First Copybook along with the preschool flash cards. And we are doing her math facts workbook and abacus flashcards with Phoenix. I’m actually working on my own resource to put out. It’s not done yet, but I’m hoping to be able to have it available soon. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

@@Homeschooling_with_the_Riveras I think you should get the everything notebook. Phoenix may enjoy having the "big kid" version of copybook. 🙂 I can't say how we like ours as we only recently got it and life has been a little chaotic lately. Whenever my 6 year old does do her schoolwork (which is only like 2-3 days per week right now while we're getting back into the swing of things after sicknesses), she does the 3 R's in EP since she doesn't need much help. She can do it, get marked and be on her way in around 20 minutes of active work time (maybe about 40-60 including breaks). I think there is no chance my daughter won't enjoy it though. I feel like as parents, we know what gets our kids excited and the open-ended nature of the everything notebook pages are absolutely perfect for tailoring exactly to our children's' learning styles and capabilities. I know for a fact that on some days, I will cross out the instructions and write my own if it better suits our needs. I will help my daughter draw things while she also contributes to the drawings with her favourite pencils and sparkly gel pens. I find that when I'm involved, it wouldn't matter what resource we are using. My daughter just thoroughly enjoys bonding with me rather than being tossed and work and told "bring it to me when you're done." While I do have her do that as well with EP, other things such as notebooking with Bible topics/verses, books like Primary Language Lessons and science topics would most enjoyably done with mommy. My daughter will always get more out the lesson when she is able to chat with me about what we're learning about. I might sound more put-together than I am. You said I think in your "when the homeschooling plan doesn't go to plan" video - that your hair reflects how homeschooling is going. Yeah, that's how I've felt since December. I'm hoping things improve soon and I can figure out my minor health issues so I can achieve the amount of energy I am meant to have as a reasonably healthy adult.

Hi! This is the first time seeing your channel. 😊I'm 10 minutes in and I've already noticed so many similarities between our families. I am not new to homeschooling, buuut I am new to GOOD homeschooling. An emphasis on good literature being "textbooks" for fun story time living book learning, simply omitting certain commonly learned things in public school or homeschool curricula and you are now temping to simplify even more! If you've ever looked into the Robinson Curriculum, you'll know that something RC kids do is attempt to memorize like 900 and something math facts by age 8 or whenever possible and then start Saxon 5/4. They even recommend against using an abacus as soon as the understanding is there on basic place value and equations in all 4 operations. Keep in mind the recommendations are based on the father's (Art Robinson, I believe) experiences with being a widower to several children while being a busy farmer and whatever else he did. Mr. Robinson really did an amazing job curating the curriculum plan, and while it is still a great option to consider for families where the parent/teacher does need to be hands-off like through sickness or something, RC is certainly not going to truly benefit some people - at least not in the first few years. In fact, the first few years would be stressful for many children who don't easily learn or retain by rote memory or dislike/struggle with writing and reading. So anyway, I am a stay at home in Canada to 3 girls. They all had birthday in Nov. and Dec. and are now 6, 3 and 1. 🤍 I also went a bit nutso homeschooling early with my oldest because I has so much time and was so excited to start - and honestly she did great. She knew her letter sounds before the age of 2 and was reading "The cat sat on the mat." type sentences by roughly 2.5 and reading words like "stand" by age 3. She absolutely looooooved doing flashcards and would ask me to bring out the "flah cah" everyday haha. She was so little she could read, but spoke like a toddler. 😂 I do personally believe it is a gift to teach a child to read young because there is so much self-entertainment that can come from it, but obviously only certain children would do well with learning "too early." I will definitely be doing things much different with my other children. I might actually wait until age 5 to start teaching tiny little formal lessons and until then learn most things through play and conversation. Fast forward, we've been through so many workbooks (mostly all started and not finished) and now I'm leaning more toward a Charlotte Mason style of learning. So much money wasted when my daughter doesn't even currently enjoy the act of writing. Her little 6 year old still struggles to hold the pencil in a way that doesn't cause fatigue after only a few words. I've been redesigning my curricula repertoire getting all of the classics I can get my hands on! A First Year in Number Everyday Number Stories Ray's Primary Arithmetic Life of Fred McGuffey Readers Set Prumary Language Lessons by Emma Serl Etc. And several read alouds from the Ambelside Online year 1 book list I'm currently dealing with a life situation and once that is dealt with in about a month, I'll be able to have the energy and focus to mentally plan out how to use these sweet materials in the best ways I can think of! Casually talking about grammar while reading instead of JUST listening for pronunciation and comprehension. That kind of thing. Ok, I'd better close out as this was plenty long enough. I'm just excited to find a homeschool mom with similar aged children who is all about exactly what I want to get into! Less workbooks during the younger years and more learning through play and through chatting as a family. Ahhh, I love it! I feel the anxiety from how much my daughter doesn't love workbooks melt away just talking about these changes. 🤭 May God protect your family, home, cars and workplaces from all types of harm, attacks and sicknesses. In Jesus' name, amen. 🤍

You mention your husband has maniers, could you make a video about that? That might sound odd but I suffer from dizziness/ off balance and sometimes get bouts of vertigo. Maybe you could talk about how he manages his maniers and what his expiring has been? I’ve been to the doctor and thankfully nothing is ever found (praise God) but my mother suffers from maniers- the doctors said I don’t have that, not sure if it hereditary. I love your videos. I am a homeschool mom to five, one has graduated already. Your videos encourage me to stick with the basics and be centered in Him. I am always reminded to stay with McGuffey- stay with what works. I love Mott media. ❤❤ I’m not done with the video so I may comment more after.

That’s a great idea. We will do a video. In short, for my husband, it’s hereditary. We had to cut out almost all salt. We make a lot of things from scratch. He also can’t have any caffeine or chocolate. He has to drink 64oz of water a day. And he can’t sweat too much or he has to drink a lot more water. It’s all about keeping hydrated. All his doctors have agreed, no salt is the way to go. It’s hard at first, but the taste buds adjust and he doesn’t need the salt to flavor his food anymore. He actually doesn’t like the salty taste anymore. I hope that helps until we can get a video out 🙏🏻

@@Homeschooling_with_the_Riveras that does help! I have cut caffeine also and have not had any vertigo since, just my normal baseline dizziness/ off balance feeling. I look forward to the video! Anything you can think to share in the video that helps him. Thank you much.

You’re welcome! We know what a struggle it is to manage Meniere’s. It’s been a journey with many ups and downs for us. I hope whatever we can share will help. My husband’s started off gradual and then progressively got worse. If it’s not dealt with early, it gets worse and worse. He’s gone deaf in one ear. So the earlier you can manage, the better in the long run. The salt is an essential to eliminate for long term success.
