Could you do a video with the new DR891 digirig please
And after you have made all of the cable connections the first time, label both parts of each connection (A-A, B-B, etc, or 1-1, 2-2, etc.) so you don’t have to remember all of the connections for the next time.
I'm glad you're back. I'm looking forward to more videos.
Heard you on js8call, 7.078 on 26 October. 73
Thanks for the video. Always tough getting all the volume levels set right.
What if you dont have the pnp show up?
Great job on the walk through. I like how you keep it simple. If you make a video on how to connect to winlink with VaraFM on a HT, I'll definitely check it out.
Nice setup. I like it De VE7JAI 73
Excellent video!!!! thanks for posting!!!!!!! Subscribed
I believe there are several settings in the radio that have to be changed in order for this to work properly
I had a problem with the CAT control. The radio kept shifting the frequency around. I changed "split mode" in wsjtx to rig instead of fake it and that seems to fix my problem.
the new one allows the cat control now
Thanks for a gun case tip! Will give it a try! 73, K5WYS
I am not sure if that's a USB B plug.
Great walk-through of setting up the FT891 with the Digirig. Thanks!
i use the same radio with 2 antennas,3 80 amp hour costco marine batteries,2 100 watt panels,it does fairly well, its at 4100 ft in the sierras, its been running non stop for almost 2 years,i am going to upgrade the radio, and add 1 more panel,my panels are mounted almost vertical,it snows several feet every year, and would cover the panels,thanks,,WRXG377
Helpful video. A bit confusing about USB connectors. Your cable with USB -C on one end and USB-A at the opposite end. The “Printer cable is USB-A to B. B plugs into he radio (or printer).
Thanks for the video, going to be setting this up soon myself. Looks like you’re out in Pine? I’m over in Conifer, might have to hit you up for some advice on some things if you’re open to it!
why not let digirig do CAT control over the audio cable? this is a feature of digirig? - thanks!
I have both a four section fiberglass pole set as well as the aluminum mast kit. What I failed to have made before moving to the EU was an adapter that would allow the fiberglass masts to mount on top of the aluminum mast kit. This would allow isolation of the mast from the antenna wire at the upper most section of the mast. The aluminum mast kit is a bit awkward for one individual to set up and was used by two man crews in the military but it can be done. Might be a problem once I get the fiberglass mast sections added to the top of the aluminum. BTW those fiberglass tent poles were used to hold up camouflage tents in remote areas, they came with an unusual three section that look like snow shoes with a common center mount for the poles. This prevented the poles from punching through the camo tents. 73!
Excellent explanation on this rig! Now I have to setup for the legacy FT857, not the D version and rock and roll!
Thank you for the amount of detail found in this video. Up until now, its been a lot of piecing together info from multiple sources. Having some issues connecting but it was great to hear the modem dial etc by the end of the video. 73!
Did it make any difference after you installed it? I was thinking of putting HF in 21 Ram and was unsure if I would face the same issue.
I don’t think it helped anything. Most of the noise comes from the eTorque system and I haven’t had time recently to look into how to mitigate that. Once things free back up if I figure out a solution I’ll post a video for it.
Great job with the off grid repeater mate.
Congrats on the first SOTA activation!!!! A lot of people would have sped up the set up, but there's a lot of value to showing it in real time, so I'm glad you did it this way. Can't wait to finally do some of this stuff myself!
Hey I appreciate the comment. I’ve taken a hiatus from UA-cam to get an EMT certification for when things go sideways. Two weeks left and I’ll be back to making videos
Great advice for anyone trekking out to the boonies by themself. I've had lots of fun on my bikes out in the middle of nowhere, but I'm really looking forward to getting a similar setup for doing some POTA/SOTA stuff finally. Great way to have fun, but safety and multiple backup plans have to be in the forefront for sure!
Thanks - Sometimes this digital mode stuff is way to convoluted. You made it simple. Almost plug n play thank you 73
Thanks so much for this awesome video! Explanations I've seen (or read) before have always resulted in my having more questions than answers, but your explanation was incredibly thorough. I'm so glad I've stumbled upon your channel. Cheers and 73!
I just downloaded the CP210x_Universal Window Driver file. Right click on silabser (setup info...a 2kb file), but there was no "install" option. Ideas?
I’d just double click and install that way. Honestly, I’m not good at reading instructions so that’s what I did the first time anyways. Hope that helps.
15:03 You described USB A and B the wrong way round. USB A is the rectangular host connector that goes to the computer. USB B is the almost square device connector that goes to the radio. The cable must be USB 2.0. The USB 3.0 A plug is backwards compatible with a USB 2.0 host, but the USB 3.0 B plug is not backwards compatible with a USB 2.0 device.
I would love to see how you have that hamstick mounted to your truck. Thank you
Great video. I’m looking for good radio settings. Do you have a list of radio settings?
Finally got my 891 to work! Only think different in my end was the two COMM Ports picked up were switched up from this video. On yours’ and other videos, the COMM Port labeled “Enchanced” was the lower number one. Mine on the other hand was the high sequential number. Once I selected that comm port labeled as “Enhanced” it worked without issue!
Nice video I’m about to make one very similar antenna that’s for the video
Glad you enjoyed it! The antenna worked really good on 10, 15, and 20. Had a lot of noise on 40 for some reason. Good luck with yours!
Were you using HAMRS to log? Nice video, thanks.
Hi! Yes I was.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! I was thinking I had a faulty unit. Again, thank you! K3SLH
If this videos helps just one person, you, it was worth it. It only took me about 15 minutes to figure out the problem but I initially thought something with the front end of my radio had failed or fried.
Your background remembers me of Red Dead Redemption, only the bear is missing hehehe 73!
Haha
Best rope for pulling over tree branches is what the arborists use and that's zingit throwline with a throwbag.
Yeah, absolutely I bet that stuff works great too. Just kind of hard to find at the local hardware store.
288 at the time im posting this. Great videos and thanks for making them.
Thanks a lot I appreciate that!
Hey mate, is it OK to feature your clip in my Channel? It will be credited in the description & comments section with your name watermarked on the clip. Thanks, DU
Yeah sure no problem. Thanks for asking!
I'm not so sure its necessary to install yaesu's software. You are interfacing with the digirig and not the radio itself. I could be wrong though.
For CAT control the computer interfaces directly with the radio via the USB cable, not the Digrig. There may be another way to go about it, but so far I am not aware of any.
@@JosephLittleK3ARK I was under impression the digirig handled cat control as well. Thats how it works with my 857d, which doesnt have a usb port.
"Unlike other transceivers in FT-8xx lineup, Yaesu FT-891 does not expose the serial interface lines and instead implements serial CAT internally via its own USB connection." forum.digirig.net/t/cables-for-yaesu-ft-891/16 Also, Check out the USB driver manual at the bottom of the list of files for the 891 www.yaesu.com/indexVS.cfm?cmd=DisplayProducts&ProdCatID=102&encProdID=DF4DB262968932E999EAF928B5B6A1A7&DivisionID=65&isArchived=0
@@JosephLittleK3ARK Interesting. Ultimately I'm trying to see if this will work on a mac. Yaesu's software doesnt appear to work on mac, but if you can live without cat control, it just might work. Thanks
Good Job on the Antenna Setup. I could not do this any better myself...73 de Uncle Günter from the other Side of the World 💯👍🙋♂
Thanks so much I appreciate that. Antenna wasn’t a very good performer on 40 but the rest were pretty good.
Is that the $80 micro center laptop?
That one is not, but I do have the $80 laptop and my experience with it has been great. Would recommend.
I have that lip mount. I like it a lot. It does scratch your paint, however.
I like it a lot too but kinda wish I had gone with one that bolted under the hood. Can only run the mini sticks. The full size wobble way too much.
What brand is the tower sections?
I have no idea.
god job 73
Hey thanks I appreciate that!
Interesting to see repeaters that are only in cabinets and not also in a 'shack'. Most around here that I'm familiar with are in an actual small building. I guess this shows that it can be done on a smaller scale with the proper cabinet, etc.! Looks like a good location...minus those switchbacks. lol
Hey I appreciate you watching and your comment! I wish we would have had a building on site to put it. We had a good site but that was it. Had to come up with everything else from scratch.
@@JosephLittleK3ARK Looks like it’s working out good. Hopefully it keeps serving you all well!
My wife loves Kara and Nate’s videos. She would have made me plow the driveway for them 😂
Hahaha that so funny!
You need a few snap on chokes on all oeads in/out the laptop to stop RFI from locking it up. The antenna is only a matter of inches away. Good luck
Hey I appreciate you watching my video and leaving a comment. All my cables have rfi mitigation/chokes/ferrites built in to them and I don’t have any issues there. I use them in the shack where needed. I’ll keep this in mind if I run into problems in the future.
