You guys didn't kick astarion at the first signs of him being a vampire? Wild Couldnt be me
for some reason a cutscene wasnt triggered when i encountered Yurgir and he acted just like a random enemy and i killed him 😭 somehow he was still alive in Raphaels home though! Wish the game had less bugs...
You made a young will ferral?
He called Rivington Rivendale XD
The hardest decision around Astarion is wether or not to get the +2 strength potion (at least for me, since optimize-everything-brain can’t not get it and then I feel bad)
Ketheric was someone who lost everything, and then again, and then again. No wonder he so pessimistic. Doesn't help that his twenty year old daughter dating a freaking old ass immortal would definitely creep out any father as well.
I don't think its cheating to delve into Forgotten Realms and D&D lore to lead to the truth of mind flayer nature.
I might be one of the few who doesnt like astarion at all. Most of the companions i find hard to like. They all LIE & USE you straight out the gate until you catch them showing their weakness
I just finished Act 2 of my Durge run and I'm upset and confused. I was going for a redemption and was tryong to actively avoid obtaining Slayer form. Like i didnt kill Isobel, the winged horrors did, and the Last Light Inn fell. AFTERWARDS Jaheria just straught up died. Then during my next long rest I almost killed Gale but i resisted. But now, I have the Slayer form. Just how? Other than that, I'm loving this run!
What you missed is astarion was pretty much a baby when he was turned into a vampire. Just think how long elves life spans are.
I still don't buy it. There is no proof, that it is the Emperor. Here's what doesn't really add to that theory of yours. It's not the artifact itself, nor the Comet Prince, Orpheus, that shelters us from Absolute's influence. It's the Emperor stealing Orpheus'es powers and channeling them to us, that makes us not going all squiddy. So he couldn't be aboard and infecting us, while he also protected us from within the Astral Prism at the very same time. It just doesn't click. Yes, it's all true, that the Emperor was leading a strike team to get hands on the artifact, but that supposedly happened earlier, than the intro to the game. At this point (throughout the intro), he's already inside the Prism. Otherwise we'd been squiddies the moment we've been thrown out the crashing ship. Remember what Daisy (the Emperor's disguise, it's refered to as that in the game files) said in one of the dream? "The order to change was already given several times, if it wasn't for me, you'd transform". That order was given many times and one could assume it happened even while on board of the Nautiloid. The Prism/Emperor inside it is literally the only reason you don't change while fighting your way to the helm. Since those tadpoles aren't the usual ones that gobble on your brain and in a week (exactly 7 days as described by Gale) turn you inside out and make you a squid, they are magically enhanced to do it in an instant - by an order. You can see that in a room while interacting with a console. So the Emperor can't be in two places at the same time, unless he used a projection, which couldn't grab a tadpole and infect people, would it? So again, not buying it. The Emperor stealing the power of Orpheus is the only way to protect us and he can't do that while outside of the Prism, least not for a long time. He was also fighting the royal guard of the prince for quite a time. Again him escaping the ship into the Astral Prism and immediately starting channeling Orpheus'es power while also going to fight the royal guard seems like a lot to do in such a short time. Rather fighting the guard and doing his stuff to Orpheus for a longer period of time sounds more convincing to me, more believable. I don't think he's the nicest person ever, definitely not, but I don't buy that all of this was just his evil master plan - implanting some people with a tadpole, securing them as tools and then protecting them. It doesn't really add up. Implanting people with a tadpole purposefully seems too risky, they could always succumb to the Absolute at any point, perhaps during a distraction (and having to fight a royal guard seems pretty distractive to me), stretching yourself even more to protect them, just because you've believed, you could handle it? Nope. The Emperor can't be that dumb. Taking advantage of a bunch of already tadpoled people sounds still more reasonable. Also in the intro cutscene you see the Nautiloid collecting people from Baldur's Gate, before the Githyanki show up with dragons. It would really make zero sense for the Emperor to tadpole a lot of people himself, because of all the risk. The more people he tadpoles, the more he risks them to fall under the Absolute. A terrible plan, giving your enemy such an advantage. I rather believe, that he took advantage of the situation with a few tadpoled people within the Githyanki artifact's reach to protect them and use them to fight against the Absolute.
For me, whether to kill the 7000 was the hardest choice in the game. I was too scared to take the tadpole so that was never as big a risk. But this? I had to think about it heavily. I was so worried that if I freed them, they would slaughter part of the city. Ultimately, I reflected on my journey with the game so far and what I had observed about Astarion and myself playing. I decided that if I was treating Astarion like a person, wih agency and right to live, respecting his freedom and autonomy, then I must do the same for these victims. He could restrain himself, so perhaps they could as well. I gritted my teeth and said to let them live. To my relief, that seemed to be the best choice. But no lie--as soon as i long rested, I immediately went to get the city newspaper and see if it had been updated with a rash of killings. It had not. As a roleplay thing I was relieved, but as a gamer I was a touch disappointed. Not even ONE exsanguination? It would have been cool if there were some repercussions because not all of the spawn were well behaved. Or maybe we could even have an encounter with one killing someone and reckon with our actions. Alas, the game can't do everything. Just most things! 🤗
Cyric, I hate D&D 5th edition. 1. There already was a God of Necromancy, it's Velsharoon. What happened to him? 2. Selune is a greater deity, there's no way anyone can bring her soul back unless it's with Selune's permission and the willingness of the soul to return to the mortal realm. Even greater deities (something Myrkul isn't anymore) can't enter another's realm without their name being mentioned as a way of calling. 3. Thorm's grief makes little sense. As a worshiper of Selune with a lot of wealth and influence, he could have spoken with his wife and daughter in heaven all time anytime. Hell, he could have minecrafted himself and he would join them in heaven. This could have been easily avoided if only they made him a worshiper of any other deity meaning they part ways after death. There's no point in mourning the dead on Toril (the world of the setting) because gods are real, afterlife aka heaven exists and good people literally go to a better place. The only thing to mourn is soul destruction, being turned into an incorporeal undead or perpetual torment. Irenicus > Thorm, yes his motivations are basic power hungry but at least it makes sense in the universe, it doesn't raise the "---but why didn't you simply do this..." question.
i do remember having fun and even defending the game when i was playing it but after i finnished the main quest line i was like wait thats pretty much it for this game just but hey maybe i one day will end up getting like a couple hundred mods for it installed and replay it that way and then properly enjoy it because as a sandbox for modding it does look perfect like tons of space for modders to make interesting quest mods hell a mod that adds some more biome variety would be absolutely sick because i felt like i was coming across the same 4 biomes on every damn planet like there was a lush biome with forests and stuff like that and a dessert biome with pretty much nothing and then a snow/ice biome and i guess a standard moon looking biome and and i never really went out of my way to explore a random planet since i was mostly focused on doing quests and finding new quests to do because the outpost building aspect was one of the least atractive things to me
I love how you can get his armor in act 1 greatest merchant of our generation.
I prefer Cazador over astarion unpopular opinion I know
Hated him immediately. I really have no idea why, but I hated him right out of the gate.
I would’ve gave him pictures of spider man if he chilled the f out
Letting Astarion kill me so I get to wake up and punch him in the face is my favorite part of my BG3 playthroughs XD
A small correction, Astarion wasn't dead when Cazador found him, he was going to die but hadn't yet. Astarion only accepted Cazasor's help in desperation to live.
Astarion was really enough of an annoying asshole without giving him essentially unlimited power, thank you very much
Best plot twist in gaming??? This pales in comparison to the true identity of koveras
"ever hear a villain sing his own theam song?" yeah every disney villain
I find it kind of eerie how long he was following us on our journey. You can actually catch his spies on several occasions throughout the story such as in the Shadow Cursed lands when you’re approaching the location of the night song. If directly confronted, they puff away in a plume of smoke.
The plot twist just doesn't add up - if Balduran set out "300 years ago" (as stated by the inhabitants of The Isle of Balduran) and his fate is unknown during the events of BG1 (1368DR), how in the world did he suffer ceremorphosis by going to Moonrise, which was built as a Selūnite temple in the late 14th century DR? In the beginning there would be no Absolute in Moonrise and let's assume Balduran returned post-siege on Dragonspear Castle (1369) and found the city in post-war upheaval, with refugees and all that, he decided the city needs a monetary injection (relatively reasonable so far) and so he went dungeon-delving into Moonrise. Delving for what? Shovels and construction equipment? The structure is yet to be fully built, remember? It wouldn't be a "base of evil" or a dungeon for another 112 years.
So what you are saying i shouldn't have killed both kid and his parents instead of playing hide-and-seek? Shame
I honestly just found him kind of annoying my first playthrough. Extremely easy to see through him the second you meet him and since i didnt immediately go along with whatever weird garbage he wanted to spew at me, he threw a temper tantrum and showed off his wings and horns to be impressive, only further solidifying in my mind: "oh yeah hes just some asshole." VERY surprised to see that this was NOT the general opinion of raphael.
Paladin Durge is the true Main Character journey
I haven't done the Ascended choice, but watching Cazador just makes me think that Astarion must have screamed the same way when the runes were carved on his back. As an aside, I like how the voice for Cazador is blatantly based off the male elf voice for Oblivion.
All you really need to know is really in the lore, whenever someone becomes a mindflayer, they are not themselves anymore. The tadpole becomes the mindflayer and absorbs the original hosts memories and only think that it is the host because of the memories. So if you guys tried to help Karlach, sorry, you only turned her into a mindflayer for nothing. Especially since the return to Avernus ending hints at her finding a cure.
Fuzkinf lost my honor run because they made me stab shadowheart in my sleep and the entire camp beacome hostile
That video is not good. If you stay loyal to the Emperor, the one you saved your life, he won't ask for power (He only take power if you force him to do it, he won't request himself). If you stay loyal, he keeps his promise and goes away. Was he seeking for self-preservation? Of course, it is was every living creature is trying to do. If you stay ally with him, he writes to you and remembers you as an ally. Empy is the most loyal ally you have in the entire game. He never look after power, gold or anything else. He want to be free. And if you say that if he lives he will have to eat brains, will answer that if you let Astarion alive, he will have to dry blood of victims for his entire life too. Is letting alive one mindflayer alive a problem when you release 7000 vampire spawn? I don't think so. Empy is one of the best character of videogame, because he put the player in front of difficult questions. He want to survive, nothing else.; He saved our lives, never taking anything from us. You can tell about lying, but anyone who be a liar if they said they would have trust him if he came to us first day under his mindflayer form. Empy worked to save all Astral planes long before our character is involved.
Empy does not named himself "The Emperor" It was a named chosed by Gortash once he enslaved him again under Elder brain influence
Personally I think Oberon Vortigern is the best game villain of recent time
He's actually THE baldurs gate
I didn't find this hard. Because all those "people" are no longer alive and would cause more problems for others due to thier nature.
i'm still kind of pissed larian didnt think of giving more options with dealing with the potion of strength, like astarion stealing the potion from her while baring us out from future content with her, or paying the vampire with either goods or services.
'Edward'? Are you kidding me? Astarion is a masterpiece of a character
I just randomize the dream guardian until the hair is colorful
I’ve taken to nicknaming Clarota, after the character from Critical Role’s first campaign. If you know the story, you’ll understand why.
I expected the actual answer to be the reveal of the PC from KotOR. Although at this point I wouldn't be shocked if it turned out The Emperor actually was Revan all along
Im in act 2 of my durge run and i decided to do a slowburn, i was decent and nice with people until meeting netie and her atempt at our lives trigered durges decent into bloodlust, i didnt felt good about the grove but im commiting to it
*nobody trusting the emperor cuz he is a mind flayer*: Me playing as/ending up as a mindflayer in every playthrough: right....
The order of events doesn't make any sense. I thought it was implied that the Emperor was already within the Astral Prism by the time Shadowheart was transporting it to Baldur's Gate, let alone when she was abducted. If that's the case, then it couldn't have been the one to infect us.
Like many others in the comments I was fooled by the Emperor in my first playthrough, and my friend kept a lid on it so that he didn't spoil it for me. The level of betrayal I felt seeing him as a Mindflayer is as insane as the tears I cried when I finished the game and Karlach's scene happened. In my subsequent playthroughs I go along with his bullshit, even holding his hand and hugging him in certain scenes, but always tell him 'no thanks' when he appears in his squad glory to seduce me. It made betraying him to save Orpheus and helping Lae'zel all the more sweeter. As good as 'that's twice the time Harleep says it takes you to finish'.
TRUE-SOUL I WANT PORTRAITS OF THE ABSOLUTE AND WANT THEM YESTERDAY!!
3rd incarnation of the goddess of magic. Midnight became the new mystra during the time if troubles same time cyric and kelemvor accended
The moment he appeared in the Grove, he had my full undivided attention. His character is pure evil bard energy, and it pains me that we have to kill him. I'm sorry, Raphael, but home girl Lae'zel's journey is more important.
Yeah, didn't watch the video but I can tell you right of the bat that the Emperor is very weak and controversial character... I don't know what kind of person was he in life, but judging from his talking statues and his friends he himself was a nice guy, not cruel, deceiving or dominating right. After becoming a mindflayer he ctarted to slowly degenerate into a typical mindflayer, even though he had huge free will and remembered everything bla bla. The question unanswered: why? Omeluum exists and he doesn't even have that strong will or whatever and doesn't remember anything about his former self, but it seems like he doesn't have any dirty thoughts that of a mindflayer, even wants to eat vegies. His wizardry empowered him more than the psionic shield of Orpheus? Please. I can believe that wizardry can empower one to resist the Elder Brain and to become rogue illithid. But still an illithid, it won't make you kind and fragnant. But super strong free will + psionic shield of Orpheus should. But it doesn't work for some reason, therefore the writing is flawed. It almost ruined my run when I truly wanted to trust this guy, always keeping in mind Omeluum, the living proof that illithinds actually CAN have a nice and kind souls. But the writer forced his drama absolutely oblivious about Omeluum existance. "IlLiThIdS HaVe nO SoUlS!" the bone man says. "I aM a MiNdFlaYeR, SoRrY, IlLuSiON Is mY wAy" Emperor says. Ugh, so bad.
