I liked wyll from the beginning. It literally drove me nuts that people are mad that he’s not an asshole, but a few of his asshole lines stayed and some of astarion’s cult would immediately throw him from the party for the rat diet thing, as if astarion doesn’t do and say awful shit the entirety of act 1. Anyway, from the start i thought wyll has a compelling story, and i did a run as him and it was really fun

The ansul revelation was epic. I mean on par almost of "I am your father." Vader to Luke. My first play through I was playing power hungry Great old one Warlock. I wasn't evil, but I wanted all my partners to be epic. so I did what I could for Karlach. I ascended Astarion. I was in love with Shadowheart and helped her to free herself from Shar, and fulfill her parent's wishes. But that Ansul reveal. I was astounded and pissed. Like this WHOLE time, i was taking advice from this legendary figure, that had fallen to the dark side. So I did the only thing I could do. I broke the princes bonds and took him as my ally, and convinced him to become the Illithid as I didn't want to go full illithid myself, and I wasn't going to let Karlach do that either. No I wanted the netherbrain to die, and hell If I could "trick" the prince to do what needed to be done, and destroy the illithids at the same time, well My character saw it was 2 birds one stone. But the really odd thing here is, The prince came off as more noble in heart and mind in one conversation with him after you free him, than the whole of the game with the Emperor. I was happy when we convinced Le'zel to turn against Vlaakith, as NO LICH should be allowed to live. The fact that the Githyanki followed her for so long is sickening to me. A Lich of all things. Makes me wish we could of played as a Githzerai instead of a Githyanki as yanki are warmongers. But all in all. I was blow away from the story. When Ansul calls the Emperor Baldur. I was like STF U!! no way!

Playing as Astarion is the best way to make him not annoying

he's the classic protagonist but the fact he doesnt have a true evil ending is a bit of a shame

I never hated Wyll, but I did find him to be extremely bland as compared to the other characters. I think it would have been more interesting if they went with the original concept, where he was the complete opposite.

Man I really enjoyed the rescue mission! Sure I restarted about 10 times to ensure I saved everyone but it was very satisfying in the end

I took it as any inconsistency is explained via there not actually being 1 narrative but many. The emperor is what your choices make him. The emperor you fight is always manipulating you but the emperor you allie with is telling you the truth.

I think I came across it by accident when I found a pipe on the beach by the prison. This was all before I'd rescued Ravenguard or had an argument in the streets with the flaming fist over Wyll's contract.

If the emperor was sent to steal the artifact then why is it in the hands of Shadow? Makes no sense.

Just found this channel and was enjoying listening through the backlog up until I had a Raid Shadow Legends ad pushed in my face. I cant help but wonder how much you got paid to lie to us.

At least from my perspective, the trust that's described in the first portion of this video is significantly overblown. Everything the dream visitor does and says has an air of suspicion about it. They refuse to elaborate on anything they say, give us commands with little real option to refuse as they hold all the cards (even more so than we know early on), and overall seem to be feeding us as little information they can get away with. All of this screams manipulation, almost to an absurd degree, and the fact the dream visitor is more than he presented himself as hardly felt like a twist and more like an inevitability. Of course this still leaves the questions of why and to what end, and, at least in my eyes, The Emperor's manipulation felt significantly more effective after the reveal as I had some understanding of what was actually going on. I do wish the writing was tweaked, so the dream visitor wasn't one giant red flag the whole time they were in the story, but considering the sheer depth of this game, this is a very small complaint. Nonetheless, The Emperor got turned into calamari in the end. After all, he and The Netherbrain are nothing compared to the friends we made along the way.

I believe that the emperor is the one who infects us, through the entire game he uses the guardian to persuade us to use illithid powers and when you meet him in his true form either persuades you into turning into a kind flayer completely or peer pressures you into taking an evolved tadpole and on top of that if you free Orpheus he literally goes back to the elder brain so we could safely assume that the elder brain purposely let the emperor of his leash to do this in order to get the prism

Releasing 7000 hungry vampire spawns on the city sounds like the most chaotic evil thing you can possibly do. There is no good choice. Sometimes murder is the best thing you can do. Just look at Dame Aylin’s actions. Or… Luigi? 😜

No one is talking about how the Emperor actually listens and doesn't lie at the ending of the game... You can help him with that guild he has, or even rule with him. You don't have to become a thrall to him, and he actually relinquishes the power to you after using it against the brain.

He’s my favorite character to encounter by far

I just really despise his ending if you choose to free Orpheus. He basically just finished going on this huge monologue about how he fetishizes being free and it’s all he wants in life only to go “you know what on second thought I don’t want to take a chance on the good will of this guy so I’m going to slink back into slavery and a lack of individuality.” That’s literally like if in the finals of the World Cup the game was tied 2-2 at half time and one team just went “yeah we quit. If we play the second half we might lose.”

In the opening scene where you get infected the mindflayer that infected you walks past dead/unconscious mindflayers leaning up against the wall. It's pretty clear what they are trying to communicate; the Emperor is the mindflayer that infected us.

I entered BG3 mostly blind, through some effort. Raphael first greeted me at the top of a ladder within the goblins' temple of Selune. From the moment he appeared and spoke words too good to be true, I vehemently distrusted him. I'm very proud of the way I handled him through acts 1 and 2 5:58 I've never heard "The devil you know" invoked in this way. I'm only familiar with "The devil you know is better than the devil you don't".

For me, the moment siding with the Emperor meant having to kill one of my companions (Lae’zel) was when I decided to break ties with him. Especially after knowing what he did to Ansur and the fact that from the start I had been denying the transformation he offered and didn’t plant more worms into my brain. Basically, during my playthrough I trusted my companions first because they are the people I spend my time on this journey with, while with the Emperor I would pick and choose. My strength was the trust in my allies, his weakness was his lack of trust in others. He didn’t even want to save Minsc! I mean, who in their right mind wouldn’t want to help Minsc event just because reading his mind is a pain?

Decent? Yes. Best? Pffff. Emet Selch, now that's a villain.

Alhoon in dnd lore is like an illithid lich who isn't controlled by the elder brain, because he is a lich)) so that wasn't Mephistophel who came up with the whole concept, as far as I understand he just had this in his collection of artefacts and oddities.

This quest made sure that every single subsequent run of the game I never gave the Emperor the time of day
