I Played THE AXIS UNSEEN So You Don't Have To | Indie Game Review
This October the Horror Genre of gaming has come alive, undead, and up from the depths to give us amazing new releases. The Axis Unseen is one of those games that brings you uncomfortably to the edge of your seat. I played this game on its release day and will be breaking down what you need to know and reviewing what happens when a solo developer with a proven track record gets free reign to create the game they want.

The Axis Unseen is an indie game that comes from a developer of some of the largest game releases in the past 20 years. Titles like Fallout 3, 4, and 76, Starfield, Skyrim, and more are all on the resume of Nate Purkeypile. Seeing the brainchild of someone who not only contributed but led teams on these titles more than qualified this game for me to check out.
The past success and innovative ways to have enemies track you show information, and more means the technical side of this game alone was impressive. The art, music design, environment, and storytelling turned a great idea into a masterpiece in gaming. From throwing you into the game with little time to adapt and process during the intro to you exploring far and wide, The Axis Unseen is not a horror game but a terror game that turns all the dials up to 10.
Sitting on the edge of your seat but being too scared to run is commonplace in this game. Almost everything that could help you will also hinder you. Using light sources to be able to see means you are a beacon to the monsters you are trying to avoid, walking on rocks to prevent footprints means you are making more noise, and trying to run means your heart rate increases so you can no longer hear the enemies around you, and the lack of noise from using a bow and arrow means you don’t have the fire or stopping power of modern weapons.
The Axis Unseen earns a ‘Must Play’ Rating for anyone who enjoys horror, open-world, and survival-style games. From the start, The Axis Unseen plays with your mind and only lets you relax when you step through a portal to upgrade your stats at specific locations.

Skyrim bow game wooooooowy I'm so impressed
It's all good, but why do you want shredded cheese to be banned?
store bought shredded cheese has a starch coating that makes it taste worse. freshly grated is just better
Thanks for checking out the game! I'm glad you liked it and I think you understood the point of the intro :) Also, I really like how you called it out as a "terror game", it's a term I've used to describe to people the difference between, say, Amnesia and Resident Evil 4. I think it's much more RE4 style, which yeah, to me is a "terror game". Maybe it'll catch on some day haha. Like metal, I think horror has a lot of genres. Thanks for the vid!
The only part of the game I didn’t like was how trying to run away meant you alerted everyone and their mother where you were. What was a fight you could’ve handled starts to feel like the final level in Halo Reach. But hey, skill issue on my part 🤷🏻♂️ Look forward to seeing what you do and come up with next ❤️
This DLC actually sounds quite cool. I wasn't too keen on Dredge DLC, because of how isolated from the main plot the later regions of the main game are. They feel more like an afterthought to me, especially with the shifting tone. So while I absolutely loved the Marrows and the two southern regions, the ancient fire area and the swamp did very little for me. This looks like a more worthwhile experience.
Had this game in my wishlist for over a year. Didn't have a clue the game was released until just a moment ago, marketing team dropped the ball. Deserves better than an 86 player peak. edit: Didn't realize this was a solo developer, so no marketing team. It's a shame it didn't catch more attention. It could've used 1 or 2 more trailers at some game events, like TGA or one of the June showcases
In my corner of the internet is was every 4th tweet I saw😅 I do agree if some more money had been spent to help the game get more reach that could’ve helped but for a solo dev, they still put a great game together and videos like mine are helping share the game to more people!
This video doesn't really even answer the question in the title, it just presents minor spoilers and tips
so i have to
I think they also fixed the cloaked guys to
what you got against shredded cheese?
store bought shredded cheese has a starch coating that makes it taste worse. freshly grated is just better
@@banshreddedcheese hmmm most the cheese i eat it shredded. mostly in grilled cheese sandwich. only thing. taste is burnt bread and hot sauce so i cant tell lol
Fermented eel? 😳
Dude, way underrated channel. Love how friendly you are and how the review was written. subbed
Yeah its the middle of the night 😂 im actually waiting for this game to download i am an offshore fisherman by trade And construction during offseason but the things they put into this game is really doing it for me. Drag fish in nets to keep them from rotting, hallucinations if youre panicking, you have to repair traps, can you only operate traps diring daylight hours? I guess you could fish at night too if you dont mind jail and fines . its all awesome whoever made this game has been out there for sure it really makes me appreciate it more.
You are fun engaging thorough and very helpful on the immersive games I get stuck in thank you very much .
Glad to help!
It literally took me 40 minutes with maxed speed boat
Its 3:30 in the morning ty very much
Yo did you notice the gaint monster in the iceberg it has eyes that move and follow you
What do you have against shredded cheese?
store bought shredded cheese has a starch coating that makes it taste worse. freshly grated is just better
A really good DLC. But it had almost too big of an impact on the map. With it completely chaning the vibe of the map with the sludge everywhere.
Sea of Stars would have been sooooo much better if they didn't have any character faces on the dialogue boxes or the FMVs. Whoever did the art needs to go back to school, it disturbed me so much that I couldn't power through the game.
Wait and sea of stars
I couldn’t put Sea of Stars down after I started it! Definitely worth a playthrough or two
I go play star salvager

Is there anyway to get rid of the dark splashes after they accumulate on your boat? I know they can be used for crafting and I noticed one fell overboard at some point, but is it possible to just throw ones you don’t need/want overboard or discard them in some other way?
Yes you can just discard them like any other fish or resource. I was holding on to them to see if anything would happen when your boat fills with them
You move your hands more than an ASL translator
Well I’m still gonna, A N D Y O U C A N T S T O P M E
I got the game with the new dlc since it was on sale, so it's been in tandem with the game which has been a delightful experience.
I liked the idea of the dlc but after finishing it quickly felt disappointed. They elude to a big bad the whole time youre there juuust for it to never be shown in its full glory
I thought you kept saying "my asthma" 😅😂
I love the game but this was dissappointing. No big ending?
Is there a free upgrade of the physical PS4 game to the PS5 version?
I dont watch streams but if you made a challenge run of "Iron Rig" before base game video on here I'd watch it for sure
Vetulicolia on top
Spoiler warning!! The fish man scene was definitely my favorite part of the DLC. Wanting to keep some oil in the water just to marvel at the new enemies. Worth every penny.
I was almost disappointed the way that arc ended. I wanted to know more. He almost looks like a hairless, hornless version of the narwhal so I made that cannon in my own head despite the timeline being centuries off
Loving the new ship upgrade
there's so much room for activities!
@@banshreddedcheese😂😂
me enjoying all the monsters ike the serpent or kraken thing ignoring me and no panic and miasma and hallucinations:
Why would you title it ‘so you don’t have to’ if you want people to play it.
Its so you dont have to play it yourself to know if its good or bad. At the end he tells you that it is worth the buy. Basically just a 1 minute review with a thought provoking title that's all.
For the achievements yes. And for the scrap net yes! To see Leviathan save our asses HELL YEAH!
Scrap net?
@@Chekmate-em3mc That net that fish up all kinds of scrap and materials.
great video. absolutely loved the base game. When I have time will now pick this up. Thanks for timecoding the spoilers! sub'd
Getting that net that fish up scraps and materials is a life savor. No need to waste time just fish up all the materials in an instant and jewels to sell. I think get that early would be a game changing.
That trawl net is new and didn’t exist when I made this video😅 Might need to make an updated version with new advice now that all the free updates and 2 DLCs are out 🤔
The "so you dont have to" in the intro made it sound like the dlc was bad I got scared for a sec x)
Quick Travel Porthole at The Rig? I didn't get this 😢. Great DLC! Loved the story, the upgrades and fishing. The scientists ending was awesome! The ship performance upgrades are amazing...love how you can stack them. 10/10
That quick travel portal is the main reward from the previous DLC the Pale Reach! It’s super useful in this DLC too
@@banshreddedcheese yes, I have that porthole...I thought you had another right by your rig. Gonna watch your vid again. Thanks. ...totally forgot you can pick up the anchor and move your porthole! Awesome!
I can do much better
2 major downsides for me were the size of the oil rig (typically they’re much bigger) and then the ending was very lackluster
It’s not an oil rig
That ending was anticlimactic ash, glad I didn’t buy the dlc
These games that come out for less than msrp and nail their presentation and theme I am always down for DLC. Dredge is short, sure, but it was incredible and I want to reward a great product. I'd love DLC for games I got a disproportionate amount of value out of for relatively little $, like Dave the Diver, Valheim, the Subnauticas, Planet Crafter, etc. All of these games significantly cheaper than other products I got much less out of.
a cargo ship angler? cool
Is this really the end though? Please make a part 2 !!!
I still need to go back and 100% the fish catching but otherwise that was the DLC. After I stopped recording I had to grind out a handful of research parts but no one wants to see that
@@banshreddedcheese What an unclimactic ending :(
Not the outro getting cut off cause it was too close to being over the time limit 😅
Just finished it in one session. I really enjoyed it
Bro, I laughed when I saw all the Dark Splash Stockpile!!! There's definitely a great use for them at the end of the game, but that many, had a good laugh at the end inventory management. Nice going.
I was curious what would happen if your boat filled with it. Unfortunately nothing but the Tetris skills came in handy
