I thought this could be useful for the folks just starting out on a DIY project. if you are experienced in doing this you may want to add info that may be useful to the beginner. it was brought to my attention that I was not using "no-ox-10" on my wires ends prior to crimping. to me this was optional. however if you are using lead-acid batteries, are in a wet environment or just feel better wit...

      All depends on you and your circumstances. I can say "yes" for me. I have been very pleased with them. They have been in use for a while now and in operation 24/7. Trouble free. I have received awesome customer support from battle born both over the phone, on their website and in person. These batteries of mine have operated in 30 degrees to 115 degrees without issues. I like the design with the connection terminals, there is no chance of damaging the battery when tightening the cables. If you go to their website you can read all about the battery, I like them for all of that also. I am a retired master truck technician however I chose to have a well built battery that their experts designed and built. I have not worried about failures or fires due to batteries. I agree that they are expensive and the most expensive part of my build of the system. But because of them I feel at ease because I never have to think about them. Hope this helps. Thanks. I had a "dope-slap" moment when I realized I might have reversed some cables which were colored red and black. If I were using all MC4 connectors it wouldn't matter that the negative cable was red, technically; but I was connecting to adapter cables with SAE connectors and I realized they disagreed on the color coding. I used a gender changer but had second thoughts and decided to test the polarity before connecting up. Using your technique, I could see that the polarity was reversed so I removed the gender changer and all is well.

    • @crusin73
      @crusin73 2 роки тому

      as the title suggest, this is a "sample" of the splice, not the wire. this is simply to show how the crimp and crimper worked. by the way, it is not a safe practice to use wire nuts in RVs. and also 2 or 3 strands is not going to degrade this wire like you stated. sure, you may want that perfect fit, but sometimes you will find a straggler or 2. I have been in the automotive industry for over 50 years. retired. and in those 50 years I have never had an issue. I am not saying to make it common practice, you should avoid straggler wire strands as much as possible, however in some instances where it really won't affect anything like while making a sample it shouldn't be an issue. hope you are having an awesome day and thanks for watching.

  • @petersplat6164
    @petersplat6164 2 роки тому

    It looks good enough for an RV. But I can tell you from professional experience, trimming off strands that won't fit in the ferrule is a no no. Those strands are there to provide the certified current capacity, and you just cut them off. Some might say "I've never had a problem", which is fine for an RV, but not for things of more importance, like aerospace. By the way, my original Buchanan C-24 crimper has "twist wires before crumping" stamped right on the side of the tool. Of course your wires are too big for that, but for smaller wires twisting is the rule, per the manufacturer with the original patent.

    • @crusin73

      @@JJ-sv9kh When smoking there are 2 ways, I have used the smoker tray, (1) soke a tray full of chips for an hour before you start cooking, then use those in the chip tray. (2) the tray has a cover, only use the smoker burner first, let the chips burn. I tried using 2 trays, but the smoke flavor became too strong. So now I line the tray with tin foil, fill with desired wood chips, put the meat on the smoker until it stops smoking, then I turn off the chip burner and turn on the 2 side burners very low, trying to keep the temp between 200-300 on average. it also will depend on what you are cooking. after you use it a few times you will see what and how you will need to adjust to make it work best for you. good luck I am still enjoying what I take off ours. One thing I have done is use a drip tray and grate to keep most of the grill clean. I can also use the drippings to make gravy if wanted for the meal.

    Good job, I will try that on ours tomorrow! I hope it’s an easy fix like yours! Ours was dripping a little bit inside this past weekend. Thank you!

      Did it work? it could also be a bad / old seal that needs replacing.
