A couple of minor mistakes I noticed in an otherwise flawless video: The creators behind the show weren’t ‘aware’ of the potential, there was a whole blasted civil war behind the scenes during book three over Zutara and Kataang. Heck the voice actors for Zuko and Katara were blindsided when they found out that Kataang was canon because they shipped Zutara so hard. Still ship them too. Several of the writing team worked hard to make Zutara happen, however those who wrote the checks just had to give Aang a little trophy at the end. I think it was during Korra that the creators admitted that Kataang was ‘kinda forced’. We were even supposed to get a Book 4 that led into the rebuilding of the world, goes into their lives, Aang finds hidden Air Nomads, and so on. While many claim that Zuko was leading Katara down a dark path during the Southern Raiders, and it was a very dark moment for her, I don’t think she was going to go as far as people think. Her anger wasn’t like Zuko or Zhaos rage, wild and unfocused full of bluster and noise, it was a fury as cold as the glaciers she lived on. She was focused and calculating, you can’t run covert ops if you can’t keep your head straight. Just as she’s a parallel to Zuko she’s a foil to Azula. Her inherit compassion wouldn’t allow her to go the way that Jet would of killing innocents. And even in the improbable event that she could, Zuko would help her turn back from that. Sure she let the killer go because it’s a kids show and they can’t show killing, and killing does change a person, but she’s not some delicate flower that some people try to make her out to be. Excellent video otherwise sir!

Artoria Pendragon (or Saber) is my favourite character in anime(and things related). And she’s super strong, one of the strongest even, but she’s not obnoxious nor flawless.

Even in 80s Western animated series, you had good female protagonists. They needed help from time to time, but they were not helpless damsels in distress. We had Scarlett and Lady Jaye from GI Joe, Diana the Acrobat from Dungeons and Dragons, Teela from He-Man & the Masters of the Universe, She-Ra who was the titular character in She-Ra Princess of Power, Cheetara from Thundercats and Firestar from Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends, just to name a few. They all had flaws and/or weaknesses but they generally were good characters.

Saber is very strong but she has lost plenty of battles in the Fate lore. In her own route she was decimated by Herc the first time they fought and than needed help from Shirou to beat Herc in the rematch. Granted she took Gilgamesh on her own one on one. In the 2nd route UBW she was relegated to side character. Finally in Heaven's Feel she was corrupted by the grail and became Saber Alter who eventually lost against the combined efforts of Rider & Shirou. Even in Fate/Zero Saber where she was in her most overpowered state, ultimately didn't win the Grail War though in the end nobody did. So i wouldn't say Saber is an overpowered character as she is very vulnerable at times but man does she have some great character development whenever she is depicted in the series.

Hajime Isayama did an amazing job with female characters, not only with Mikasa. Mikasa is criticized for being “boring” in the anime, having a one track mind and only thinking of Eren. I hear she’s more fleshed out in the manga. That said, i still love her to death. Her role in the story is HUGE, whereas other female characters in shonen anime (i don’t think AoT is shonen, but just bringing shonen up because it’s usually showcased alongside them and also has some shonen characteristics) are put in the background, or if they do fight it’s usually just fighting other female villains who are inconsequential in the story. That’s a major reason why i think Mikasa is iconic now. But besides Mikasa, we have Hange, Crista, Sasha, Annie. Hange I would argue is probably the best female character out there. She is multifaceted, multidimensional - it’s hard to find other characters like Hange. Props to Isayama, and hoping his work will pave the way for other creatives to create diverse, complex, and amazing characters and stories.

I mean they nail mulan in original animation but somehow still managed to butcher her character in live action should be enough evidence on how far degraded current western media creative department

Not gonna lie one of the many reasons i love the Xenoblade series it's because both male and female characters can be such badasses but with genuine obstacles to overcome and still show emotions and flaws, characters that make mistakes and bond with others When was the last time you saw a female character from the west admiting she liked a guy, like is that supposed to be a weakness? When most of male characters even today have that special lady they want to get back to after the day is saved

Reminder that it's not bad to have female protagonists. We have good protagonists from shows such as Kim Possible, Mulan, Owl House, Amphibia......I could make a list but it would take too long. But please for the love of God, don't pull the age old mistake writing terrible female characters, Mary sues that no one will care about or relate, or pander to a minority like corporations do (I stress the corporate part especially because we know how they act)

The people who created the Disney Renaissance Movies and the 90 TV you cited grew along side with or even before the current lead creators: and they were not 'hampered' by the entertainment they grew up with. I have a lot to say about my frustrations towards (mostly) american media, but I'll say this. Between americans and other parts of the world, the US (starting around the 2010s) is too "comfortable?" As in, they're way into their la-la-land bubbles and rather make new "problems" and continously victim-blame over innovating and improving. It's been a decade, and they STILL NEVER learn a lesson. And what's sorta ironic is that the countries (south korea for example) that are just as developed as the US continues creating neat & refreshing stuff that doesn't talk down to the audience, regardless of quality. Idk, I'm rambling, but it is funny to notice.

Power is handed to the unworthy. The first captain marvel movie was disturbing because of it. The lead role was written as a destructive sociopath with zero regard for property and public safety. She broke 3 doors and discharged a weapon many times in public with civilians about. That's not how a heroic figure behaves.

When you compare these protagonists from the female protagonists from Anime Jolyne joestar from jojo and violet Evergarden are leagues above these toxic women .

Modern western female protagonists are too op and have no weakness. The only weakness they have is not believing that they are strong. They are so overpowered that they make everyone look like an idiot despite having more experience than them.
