Riva Racing Sponsons: Are They Worth It?
Gotta pick up one of those GP1s!
I bought 24 jetblaster this fall but was torn if I should wait for a 25 being new. After seeing pics of it and it being 6 inches shorter I decided to buy 24. The reason is we use are jetblaster as a family unit mostly doubling and pulling a tube and 25 just did not look like it would works as good for that as 24. The 24 is still nice to just play on alone but 25 might better for that. Was also nice getting $2400 off 24 at end of the season.
We have a first year Jetblaster. It's got 32 hours on it so far. I got a chance to talk to a guy with a GP1800 at the lake. I was telling him how on our lake on a choppy day, you really have to be out of the seat if you are over maybe 35mph or so. Not that that's a bad thing, you just need to be relatively athletic to get the most out of it. He told me that he had just been over 70mph sitting down. So maybe that's an insight into the small PWC vs. large PWC decision.
That's because a GP1800 is a boat that displaces a decent amount of water and is heavy 😂. They handle chop nicely because of that , infact they handle chop better then most small boats. A jet blaster is as close to a modern 90s ski that you are going to get, and it's still about 100kg heavier then an original waveblaster.
Great review!! Nice job
Thanks! Hope to do an actual side-by-side soon!
That looks like a fun, nimble ski. I bought my wife's 2024 Superjet right there off that show room floor.
Nice! Bought my EX from Steve as well. Love the atmosphere compared to the large dealers. I bought my wife's EX used but originally was sold by Steve.
Just buy a 1/2" stainless bolt and use a stainless hose clamp and call it a day.
After you tightened the hubs, did you back them off a bit and hand tighten?
Usually tighten as I am spinning the hub then back off 1/4 turn usually does the trick.
Little too quick for me
❤❤❤❤❤❤
You don't need to block it off. Just take the hose out and leave it like that
@@smokeyjayshouse the wasted propulsion is next to nothing but my OCD would not allow me to leave it open. 😏
Do you know if you can install the handlebars and grips without getting the steering system?
I’m sure you could bc the bar thickness is the same but I think the OEM steering has a higher mount than the Riva…
@@oldfarth2016coming back to this, the race director at Great Lakes Watercross and everyone I’ve talked to said you need the steering system :(. Probably the next upgrade unfortunately lol
Don't for get if it's supercharged make sure you don't forget to take the ribbon out to improve air flow
Not supercharged. Not much gain doing a ribbon delete on a TR-1. Plus you have to drill it out compared to other engines that you just pull it out.
I wonder if you could just weld in the partitions to the original intake and save a boat load of money
@@BaoNguyen-un1km there is more than just the partitions but if you have the welding skill, why not? $40 for the EXR grate seems like a better investment to me including time.
Do ride plates magically install and uninstall or is there another video with the step by step install? Asking for a friend.
They are magic. Didn't you know? :) Had a hard time doing it with one hand and the tri-pod was not helping. 4 bolts with a 12mm socket just like the intake grate. Very straight forward.
Does the Riva plate need to be a torqued to a certain spec? Does any sealant need to be applied to the bolts or the around the plate?
@@davidallsopp704112.5 lbs. what I’m trying to figure out is how to get around the trailer bunks.
Do you have to worry about the intake spacer or should that stay in place? Seems like lost mine and thinking it happened when swapping out the ride pate.
Does it get hot in that compartment area, from the machine?
It can but a small flexible cooler will help if you are worried about your good/water getting hot. Best part of the bag is carrying anything half-way large can now be done like a VX or FX. EX's were not design with good storage.
My favorite part was when you explained how to do it instead of just showing a fast-forwarded version with music playing which made it really difficult to actually see and understand what you were doing.
Fair enough. Thank you for your elaborate feedback :). I can do another video next time.... - Bearings can only go in one way. - Need to pack the bearings first. That is what you see me doing with the grease in my hand. Just scoop the lip of the bearings continuously until the grease comes out the other side. Here is a better video of packing the bearings if you still need help ua-cam.com/video/UywlK7VQIRE/v-deo.html. - Seal goes on the back side of the hub. Install the bearing then seal (solid side out) with a hammer and equally sized socket or 2x4 to ensure even pressure. - Front side seal is installed same time as hub to the axle. It will be secured when axle nut is installed. Tighten axle nut evenly including rotating hub to ensure even seating. - When fully seated, rotate axle nut a 1/8 to 1/4 turn counterclockwise - Install axle axle/nut cotter pin - Install wheels. That's it!
What your axle rating? I seen two sets of the bearings, one for a 2,500lbs axle with measurements of 1 1/16 x 1 1/16 & the 3500lbs axle kit at 1 3/8 x 1 1/16.
What could be cheaper than just taking the tube loose at the top and route the hose downwards? Exactly what I did for my fishing rig.
Have you heard of PWC DOCTORS VERSIPLUGS OMG WE HAVE 2 SETS ON BOTH OUR 2023 EX SPORTS NEVER HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT PUTTING IN OR TAKING OUT THE PLUGS JUST PUT EM IN AND NEVER LOOK BACK
Sorry for the loss of gear; still a great video!
Much appreciated!
Yeah, the thing is pretty expensive even for an SVO for what you’re getting
Nice vid. Thanks for sharing.😎
Thanks for watching!

64 top?
I hit 66/67 a few times but on flat water. Gauges are not 100% accurate. Local lake is @ 1700ft so we will get a couple mph more in Havasu. We are in the Manufacturer Stock so nothing can be changed except a seat cover and grips.
Have you done the ribbon delete, if not curious on your thoughts to why or why not. Thanks
I have not. Technically not allowed IJSBA in my class but I am sure there are some racers that have done it.
Thanks for info
Stooopid !!
Riva after christmas was 40% off I spent a 1000 bucks on stuff.
Yep. That's why finally pulled the trigger on the steering kit...😎
Where did you get your seat from?
Jet Trim cover.

Have you looked into any of the new JetBlaster (22, 23, etc) parts to see they are interchangeable to you EX?
I have not. More into short course racing so the JetBlaster components would not be a good fit. Good idea though for others looking for a creative way to covert to those components. 👍
Does the optional Bluetooth volume button work with any brand speaker?
I believe so. I say that because we have not used the remote in some time due to inconsistent operation. My wife now just adjusts the volume/track with her phone. Plus it is one last thing to charge.
I enjoy your videos on your EX’s. I have 2021 EXR and the glove box door barely stays on. The hinge side is the issue. I have been trying to come up with solution to retain the door if it pops off. It’s a really strange arrangement.
Thanks! We have to be super carful not to bind the door when closing. It sure tries to break on us. Hoping the next generation EX has this resolved.
I needed a couple pointers on reinstalling my wife's EX intake grate and found this video helpful. What lake were you riding on at the end? We ride the Colorado just north of Yuma. Also just subbed ✌️
Glad it was helpful. Lake Pleasant is what we are on in the video. It is our local lake but do hit Canyon, Saguaro, and Havasu on occasion. The Colorado is the best IMO. We used to have a place on the Parker Strip and miss it every day 😢. Thanks for the sub!!!
I did mine for free, take a 1/2 bolt, cut about 1 '' of hose , shove the bolt in the hose and clamp it all down.
I just put the JetTrim on my 2018 FX SVHO Cruiser. Was surprised at how easy it was. Took about 3 weeks to get the seat covers in which was super fast. It took about 30 min per seat and that was taking the staples out. I bought a staple remover that it’s like the back of a claw hammer but on a screw driver. So I can pry and it will pull the staples without having to use anything else. According to their instructions, If your original seats didn’t have the hold down tab straps, like yours since it doesn’t have raised areas, you keep the original cover on to waterproof the foam. If it has the straps, like mine since it is raised in areas, you have to use a bag to cover the foam. I ended up getting a roll of the slick film they used originally and put it over my seat. Stapling everything back on only took about 5 minutes. And I got the same stapler as you. Worked awesome. I got the marine staples, but they wouldn’t sit flush and just ended up using the stainless ones. I can’t wait to get mine out on the water. Due to your grip video, I order the grips and the extender from Worx and they should be here today. ODI is close to me, about 20 minutes away. But when I went to get the grip extender, it also had the grips on their site too. I also ordered their trim extender for my ski.
Nice. Glad everything worked out. How did the grips work out?
Thank you for all this important information
Our pleasure!
Did you sell the jetskiis?
Nope. Just been super busy.
I haha racing is addictive and fun.
Did they make you disable the visibility spout?
There is no one there that regulates anything. It’s a free for all. But those of us that have Yamaha, like to disable them just so we are not getting wet all the time with it. Or if your riding with other people you are not soaking them every time you get close to them. They are annoying and only serve a purpose if your riding straight with no one else.
Nope. Just preference.
Great presentation, Enjoy the Ride and be Safe.
Slamming your balls or a softer seat pin the throttle the wave runner will chop those waves straight pin your a good driver and spank that green machine 1499cc with mods
52 mph the wave runner chops/hops those tiny waves
The stock EXR / Jetblaster intake grate is the best you can get. I bought a Riva intake grate for my '23 Jetblaster, and it does not hook up as well the stock intake grate. Cavitates way more than the stock grate. Kinda disappointed. However, fhe Riva ride plate was a massive inprovement.
Good to know. Thanks!
What improvements did the ride plate do? I have been thinking of getting one just want to know what benefit it will give me.
@@jdlmon64 Helped with porpoising. Not sure if it's unique to mine but the how liked to porpoise (bounce up and down) a lot. Also helped get on plane a bit quicker, gained 1mph top speed, and made a huge difference in the amount of grip while turning really hard. You won't notice that last one unless you ride aggressively and really throw the ski into corners, but if you do, I am sure the back end has slid out and you've spun around or maybe even been thrown off. The ride plate made it much harder for it to slide.
The impeller is more for a full throttle acceleration, stunting and choppy water, it's design helps prevent cavitation and maintaina hook up instead of just spinning and bouncing off the rev limiter. The ride plate is more for handling. Pwrosnally on my brand new 2023 Jetblaster, the ride playe eliminated my skis porpoising. It really liked to porpoise at medium speeds on light chop, now ot doesn't. It also liked to slide out in hard turns, and the ride plate eliminated some lf that tendency as well.
I tried my friends svho with riva sponsons and i loved it!! Thanks for sharing! Def getting those!
One of the most convenient locks you can get for the trailer hitch lock is the Bolt brand lock. You get ones that are keyed to your vehicle key. I only have one tow vehicle, so I have a few of their locks, a pad lock, cable lock, hitch pin lock, and the trailer hitch lock and then they have a tongue lock. All keyed to my truck. So it’s one key for all and I don’t have to have a lot of different keys that always get lost. As long as you have your vehicle key you have the key to your hitch and trailer and all that. For the spare tire, you can buy a lock for it that screws onto the lugs and actually acts as the lug nuts for it, you can undo it by hand, no tool needed. The two halves connect to allow a padlock to lock them so they can not be unscrewed, and your tire stolen. I use the Bolt padlock there. I use the Bolt cable lock to attach to the rear tie down to the trailer. Since it is a vehicle key, and they make them for all types makes and models. You need to make sure you get one for your brand vehicle and type of key, standard cut or side cute. Since it is a vehicle key, they are harder to just rake pick like generic trailer and hitch locks are. Can still be done, but takes more of their time. For license plates, use nuts and use the security head bolts or screws. They need more than just a screwdriver or pliers. I am also surprised when you got stopped in the past they didn’t mention the reg numbers. I can see if your video the required spacing is not there lol. But really check out the Bolt locks. They are awesome and don’t have to worry about extra keys or misplacing one.
what is the diameter of the handle bar with out the grip?
Oh boy. I believe it's 7/8 but cannot remember 100%. The replacement Riva bars are 7/8 so should be the same.
You should never have to pay to launch a boat
yamaha really screwed up the storage capacity on these skis.
Agreed. I have a feeling that this will be rectified whenever the EX is updated. The bag is all is really needed IMO. It fits tons of stuff. Thanks for watching!
My issue is my 21 EX Delux wobbles when riding my 6 year old on it. Will changing the sponsons stop the wobble?
Are you referring to lower or higher speeds? If higher speeds, yes it will help. The EX is not as stable as a VX, FX, or GP so you need a little more throttle input with two people on board. However, even thought the EX is Yamaha's current smallest runabout, it is massive compared to it's predecessors. The first time I rode an EX it felt like a boat compared to my previous skis...:)
Are the ODI "watercraft" grips different than their ATV grips? I had put odi rogue grips on one of my older waverunners and they were slippery when wet. maybe I got the wrong version? Surely there are not two versions of ODI rogue out there with different compounds?
The only difference I am assuming would be the size and mounting style. Compounds should be the same. You are correct, the grips can get slippery when wet especially when new. However, I believe the grips were designed in conjunction with good gloves in mind. I use Jet Tribe gloves and everything changed for the better. The materials work well together to ensure a good grip. Hope this helps. Thanks for watching!
@@oldfarth2016 good info on the gloves. I love the rogue grips on the ATV but I wear gloves on it
