This is such perfect timing, as I have been planning out my Sterling Ink purchases and have been going back and forth on the 5 year, I have failed at every type of journaling I've tried, so I thought the 5 year might work for me....but was thinking about doing one for my family as a whole, and then I came upon this and am so inspired to do this for my two sons, who are also 7 and 5!! Thanks so much for the thoughtfulness and inspiration.

Thanks for sharing an update on your system! Have you considered using the new Sterling Ink Daily a5 for your goal tracking and journaling? It has the monthly view and dated dailies but no weeklies. Then you could continue to use your fountain pens, use the monthlies for goals, dailies for journaling, and then intention setting in your other book :-) Thanks again for all your videos. A few months late, but this is lovely! I didn't realize Sterling Ink had a 5 year journal. Did you get the A5 or B6 size? And what cover do you have? It looks like it fits well. Has it still worked ok as the book has expanded? Thanks for sharing!

I get it, makes sense to me. I’m like you and work M-F 8-5 ish. Poi & hun makes a wonderful workweek agenda. It comes in a bound/spiral or you can get HL discs, dated or undated! I love it ! I needed the flexibility to move and add things. And this is the only system I’ve found that works for me. Take a look if you haven’t, I don’t see myself using anything else because bound notebooks don’t work for me.

I watched this twice. After first time I was in thoughts of, “no way that made sense, I missed something”. After watching second time I’m totally in your mindset, and it actually does indeed make perfect sense. 😆 I’m sure I’ll watch it again, because I’m totally stealing your method. I went back to work after being off for couple of years, family issues… anyway, I too have a 8-5 office setting (commercial insurance agent) n I find I need a place where I can list things, then make appropriate notes on matters (claims, new clients, etc). I still have to keep a separate planner for the things I have to keep track of for my moms Heath stuffs but this makes so much sense because in my work world, Saturdays & Sundays do not exist. Thank you for sharing, it so helped.

I appreciate simplicity no fuss no muss planners. I’m adding this to my 2025 consideration. I like that it’s a plain binding since it comes with a cover. The covers are so expensive after paying more for the artwork of the binding for other planners that you don’t get to see . This makes more sense !

Can I ask, since you need daily pages, why didn’t you get the full year size?

I don’t have kids (I’m sterile) but I also want to do a themed five year diary starting 2025. It was also an emotional purchase because in June, we had to put one of our very old cats to sleep and then in July we had to do the same with one of the dogs (also very old). So I want to write each day about something cute or funny (or even annoying) that they did each day to remember the precious moments with them❤ I know some of them will be gone before the five years is up (we have a lot of old animals) which is why I want to start ASAP and make the most of our limited time together❤ and as for the young ones, it will be interesting to see how they grow and change in the 5 years!🥰 im particularly interested to see my very anxious cats progress! I’ve been working very hard his whole life to build up his confidence and trust so I will be interested to see if I can make more progress in the next 5 years! As it stands, I do already journal about them every day but it will be nice to have more space to record more of their shenanigans as my journal is only A6 so I can’t fit very much! 😂

I regret not getting Powersheets this year. Tried another goal planner but it just didn't work for me. I love the structure of Powersheets, especially the tending list and quarterly refresh!!

Your "weekend planner" is brilliant!

I have used planners for a very long time. As an educator you must plan and stay consistent; knowing exactly what’s happening every 30-minutes or so. So I learned very quickly to stick to a planner that had discs, and I could add and removed pages at a moments noticed. I am a person that dislikes ghosting on pages it’s my pet peeve. With that being said; I have watched the planner community change over and over, and it is so easy to get caught in all that . I use a big hp for teaching, classic for faith, and a mini for everything in my purse. Hope everyone finds what they are looking for. Good luck.

I, too, use the month in review page consistently, as well as the first page each month for thinking through various aspects of the month. Every year I wonder if I should get PowerSheets again because it is expensive, and the books do gain mass for storage after a few years. But being able to look back over the years--even when not every page is filled out--has been important for me. I appreciate your emphasis on reflection. I found the reflection questions in the Monk Manual system very helpful--monthly (although PowerSheets covers that); weekly; and daily. I used one quarterly planner to try it out but can't commit to buying 4 books per year. Now I incorporate most of the reflection questions in my daily and weekly planner/journal.

This year I went with classic happy planner size thinking I need the 7x9 - I'm finding it to be eh

Glad you are testing out the B5 to see if it works for you. I love B5 - but it gets quite big to carry around - even at work for meetings...so as much as the page size and the feel of it always appeals to me (and I love my B5 notebooks) it's not a great fit for me for a planner in a lot of respects. Did you see the Papertess B5 Manager planner? I am intrigued by that because I'd love to see how the layout would work.

This is a great idea. I am starting a new role and I need a new set up for notes vs to do list; project planning style. Using notebooks vs planner might be my saving grace.

Beautiful flip!! Absolutely love your setup. Also love the Plotter monthly and weekly, I’ve been planning on those for 2025. I love the Japanese planner aesthetic and the thin, thin paper is a game changer. Once I started using Hobonichi a few years ago I was a convert for life, I actually love the ghosting and how it gets “dented” (which I never in a million years would have imagined I’d like). I can’t get into the Bullet Journal 2.0 notebooks because the 120 GSM paper is too thick for me now (though I do still love the original 80 GSM notebooks :). Sorry to be waxing philosophic about paper… 😅 thanks for sharing!! ❤

After watching so many of these mid year planner updates where nearly 100% of them switch planner. I have come to realise that the FOMO is what contributes to this but no one admits it. There are just so many choices that its complicating a simple thing like laying your planners down on a piece of paper. Listening to these videos carefully it's almost like people are looking for a reason to be dissatisfied with a planner in order to run out and buy a new one; it's too square, the page is not the correct shade of white etc. It's just wild.

I'm so tempted to switch to rings. I journal a lot, probably more than I do planning. Sometimes I just vent, and days later, I don't like that I vented, and now it's there in my bound book. With rings, I could at least move them to storage so I don't dwell on the negative. That's why I like Happy Planner, but they are not purse friendly. And Sterling Ink selling lined tomoe for this might be my jam. Lol. Nice video. Lots of good info.

I would have just ordered a second co:pact N1, when you realized that you were going to run out of pages. At least that way the planner would get used. What will happen to all of those incomplete planners? Do you go back and just use them as journals?
