    I was recently let go yesterday for "poor performance". The reason was communicated to me verbally by HR, not by management. The question is, should I even bother with giving an explanation, or should I simply state that I was laid off? I can definitely explain the termination (as it involved management decisions that led to my having to work a miracle in order to deliver results, which of course didn't happen - I am trying hard not to blame the employer, but it is what it is). How is this for an answer: "Management wanted to use a certain material which I knew was incompatible with my design; I made my concerns known [verbally], but the decision was made nonetheless, and the design performed poorly as a result." Should I further state that I have learned to be more vocal in what I know to be incorrect (communicate it to upper management), or should I leave it open to interviewers' questions? Or should I refer to it being a "layoff" (the termination notice does not indicate a reason), and state that it was due to the program losing budget (which is not a lie)?

    This video is great, I get asked by people all the time how to get into law school so I'll share this next time I get asked. Pretty much bang on. I got in back in 2015 and this is pretty much the approach I took to get in. The personal statement actually makes quite a difference, I also know, as someone who did a one year masters in between that at least Dalhousie, where I went, really values those.

    How important is it to have the minimum grade for admission?

    • @TheJurisJourney
      @TheJurisJourney 4 місяці тому

      It really depends on the school you're applying to. While grades are important, some schools have a more holistic approach and also consider things like your extra curriculars and community involvement.

    • @MrChippinator
      @MrChippinator 2 місяці тому

      Today, aim for a 3.7 on a 4.3 scale. It's gotten way more competitive than when I applied. If you have a crazy good LSAT score, a Masters degree in something or a professional designation already, that can really offset your undergraduate GPA too. I hope this is helpful.

    Thank you so much for sharing your story❤ I had a very similar experience last year. I was forced out of a job that I was stressed at solely because it afforded me the little luxuries I had. I was very slow to tell people what had happened because I was so ashamed and embarrassed. I looked at it as a reflection of my competence and skills. Fast forward to now, I’m in a much better environment and role that aligns with my interests. My leadership praises me often and I just feel like I get to contribute in ways that show off my expertise. I’m just wholly in a better place with myself.

      Depends on a lot of things. Assuming you have significant practice experience, grades matter a lot less. Some schools weirdly have a cutoff. I ended up doing a PhD with a fairly impressive record from my LLM (including existing publication), and, while many top schools didn't care that my JD grades were below average, as law school and law academics are two very different things, some just had a weird cutoff policy. If schools like that don't want you, it's their loss.
