The Coolest Backcountry Hut in Southern Colorado
Easily my favorite mountain weekend experience to date! We were their last weekend before they change from a summer destination to a backcountry ski hut for the winter!
Jump to Hut Tour: 1:32
Campfire Ranch at Red Mountain Pass: campfireranch.co/campfire-ranch-red-mountain-pass
Full Weekend Recap: approachableoutdoors.com/featured/campfire-ranch-red-mountain-pass/

The hut is located about six hours away from Denver on Red Mountain Pass, right in between Ouray and Silverton on the Million Dollar Highway. It sits on 35 acres of land 11,200 ft above sea level and the views are to die for.
The hut itself is not what I would expect from a backcountry hut, more like an elevated mountain cabin with a few camp qualities (like no shower, but they do have a bathroom with working toilet and sinks.)
The main living area has a giant living room, table for family dinner and kitchen you don’t have to use (they provide most of the meals for you.) It sleeps eight, with one bunk room, one room with a king and a loft with a queen. Two dogs are allowed to stay at the hut with your crew.

Dog-Friendly Weekend in Moab, Utah

With no dogs allowed on the trails in Arches and Canyonlands National Park, we found the perfect dog-friendly hikes in Moab, Utah! Brewster my our 5 month old pup - we think some sort of Heeler mix? Also, we noticed his harness kept coming loose on the firs...

Can i ask what month you did this in? Ive just started training. I am 50 and do worry i wont make it!
How was your body feeling 3 days after the trip?
Amazing view . Your so beautiful Kylie beautiful smile 😊
Carly your so beautiful and amazing woman 🫶🤘💯
Beautiful.
Was this late Sept. or early Oct.? Beautiful scenery! Thanks for sharing!
@@veythach6101 Late Sept!
Was there last when volcano erupted. Went on to Dublin, missed it and was bummed.
I remember doing that in 2001. Our guide vanished after his first day, so we found our porters again everyday, but walked it alone!! I spend my 20th birthday at Machu Picchu : )
Gonna be there in a week's time (first week of December)... can't wait. Thanks for this.
Thanks for sharing your experiences with the world 😎....WAIT A DOG GONE MINUTE WHERES BREWSTER?
Ha! He wasn't born yet :)
2025 challenge accepted 🫡
Lake is SUPER Cool 💯
I forgot to say hi to Brewster👋
Holy cow 11,200 ft yahoo, back of the day used to go up to Mammoth. I believe the top was 13,000 feet. Don’t remember this place beautiful for sharing.
I loved your video! I bought flights and pre-booked a airbnb, but I am still thinking If I should go considering the overpriced trip this is. Would love some tips! Was it dangerous to rent a car considering the snow? Can you share the company with whom you rent? Where did you choose the day trip? Did you stay in Reijavnik? Thank you!
I can only imagine what it must’ve been like back in the early days when all that was wide open to natives to be able to go through all that and enjoy it to the fullest in and out of the waterfall areas daily life there thank you so much for sharing this is extremely beautiful however I did see the elevation on that 7100 feet Buddy don’t know I can do that yet
Hey Kylie! Thank you so much for doing these & taking us along for the adventures. The hot spring video of the hot spring was great. If you ever do more, there are some good hidden ones all around Colorado. I know a couple. Also, if you ever do any videos of self-care (great for mental health) - Massage Therapy, I’m a great advocate & I know a lot about recovery for the body. Work & adventures can injure us at times. Massage is in my opinion, the best recovery & the best for mental resets. Feel free to reach out anytime if you want to know more -
I need to get out of the city. Moved here from Ca. in 2006 ( please don't hold that against me!) and have yet to see a moose. I see you spotted one on this trip. Thanks for posting an excellent clip.
Of course not! Those were the first moose I’ve seen in a while. If you’re looking for a good chance for moose check out Indian Peaks Wilderness - Long Lake has a ton of moose!
That stove is absolutely the most inefficient stove Primus ever invented. I threw the burner away and use the pot with my SOTO Windmaster with the Tri-leg pot stand. 2 cups boil time less than 1.5 minutes.
This is by far my favorite video that you have posted. It sure looks like an AMAZING place. Keep up with the GREAT videos. we enjoy them so much.
@@deanhardman768 this means so much, thank you! Still learning how to make them fun - it’s an experience!
You're outdoor adventure are awesome.🤘 I would love to go to one your hikes with you 🫶
I'll let people know next time I do a group hike!

Your awesome meteorologist. I like watching your forecast
Kylie: The best way to experience Million Dollar Highway is on motorcycle so you can truly enjoy the views ......Did you bring your camera?
I bet that would be amazing! I did bring my camera but had it on a funky setting so I didn't love the results - it's such a learning curve!
@@approachableoutdoors8147 Yes, just like your career as a Meteorologist, there is a lot that happens behind the scenes that people don't know or see. While it was probably time consuming & difficult to for you to grasp at first, over time the task has become more routine as you learned what works and how the final product will turn out.
Thanks for taking us along cutie, I mean Kylie 😊
Looks like a great mini vacation, thanks for posting
It was SO much fun! Such a cool experience!
I really wanted to see the trail, but got to see you instead. Sad 😢
Awesome hiking! Did it in 2004 and still talking about it. Thanks for sharing.
It's such a core memory!
We did Telluride the weekend before and it was spectacular. Great photos and video.
Kylie i watch the news you look beautiful. see you up close you're so gorgeous 🫶 beautiful eyes 😊
You have that weather voice Nice:) First time watcher. Good channel. Kentucky is where a live. Its a natural wonder. Mental health is Key. I am US Navy Veteran with PTSD from my service. Routine rest and good exercise is awesome. How about a coffee? That usually works for me if the lady likes coffee. I ride my Ebike to work at City Hall and are posting it to my channel daily. Its a work in progress.
Looks beautiful!
It was gorgeous!
Awesome scenery and great adventures of Kylie and Brewster, and friends. Thanks
The scenery was unbelievable!
Your beautiful on fox news morning. Up close you're gorgeous omg😊
Kylie: You need to ask yourself how far down the rabbit's hole you're wanting go with your photography - like with Brewster, the more money, time & energy you put in, the greater the rewards - I would start with learning about the Photography Triangle (ISO, Aperture & Shutter speed) also the difference between RAW or JPEG pictures- The great thing about digital is you can take numerous photos, so take experiment with different angles, camera heights, zoom lengths of the same thing playing around with the Aperture/ISO/Speed settings and when you download them see how each effect your shot. You can also find good tips on UA-cam for this as well as nature, fireworks, sunrises/sunsets shots. Photography is in the eye of the beholder - shoot what you like and have fun with it - not everyone can be a John Fieldler 😀
I love all of this - thank you! I'm slowly learning and hoping I can put more time into it as I get farther into it :)
Great place amazing. But you make the scenery more better 😊
Seeing you on tv beautiful. Seeing you up close you are gorgeous Kylie and Badass meteorologist 😊
Beautiful Colorado. And Kylie your beautiful. 😊 nice views😊
Absolutely another wonderful video brought to you by the stunningly beautiful Kylie!!! Great job!! Keep these wonderful videos coming!!
Thank you! It's fun :)
Nice video as always! I think your photos look great. You have a good eye for composition. Now you can hone your skills and enter the Crested Butte Wildflower Festival photo contest next summer!
Ohhhh that would be so fun! I'm not sure I'll be up to that level by next year, but practicing a lot!
That amazing. You look so beautiful
Your smile is gorgeous 😊
I’m going there Oct 2nd - Oct 4th campsite 14 as well! First timer so I’m very excited!!
how was it?
Did you have explosive diarrhea
some friends and I backpacked to those very springs back in the mid 90s in mid-June. the almost 10 mile hike wasn't bad except the last couple of miles that we were forced to use the snowshoes that we had thankfully brought just in case. after crossing the creek three times and the last crossing was wading across in very cold water because the logs that were the bridge had fallen from the other side of the bank. Once we got to the springs, there were a few other people there and apparently the hot springs were, at that time, considered 'clothing optional'...so we did what the 'natives' did and enjoyed the hot springs au naturale. I noticed your video was strictly swimsuit friendly. the scenery at the springs with the surrounding mountains was incredible and I'll always remember that trip due to it being the first and only time that I've ever watched a porcupine in the wild fairly close. incredible trip and I'm glad back then that we didn't have to get stressed with the whole reservation permit system.
Love it
Approachable Outdoors Minnesota version. If I can get my daughter to bring Bubbles and Lenny from her place to the Walter Mondale Trail in Interstate State Park I'll post it for you! It's in Taylors Falls, MN and I call it the doggo Trail. The smaller dogs actually have an easier time because it's rocky. About a 2.2 mile round trip on the cliffs of the St Croix River.
I love this idea! Sounds gorgeous
@approachableoutdoors8147 Kylie, I just came up with a hilarious response to one of those bad pickup lines. Next time some Biff jokes about you being paid to be wrong with the weather, remind them of one guy paid MILLIONS per year to be wrong 80 percent of the time. That would be one Mel Kiper Jr, paid to be wrong on an insanely consistent basis with the NFL draft on ESPN.
OK.. Iceland is one of my bucket list places, along with Svalbard, Norway. I see Brewster didn't make this trip. Next time maybe I'll come to Denver and bring my 19 year old daughter to dogsit..she would love to meet him! 😊
You’ll love it! And I actually did this trip before Brewster 🥰
We enjoy following you on your hikes, trips and wine tastings. You are such a sincere person. You also take some amazing photos. The ones from France were exceptional.
Aw thank you! And appreciate the kind words - I'm working on my photography!
Brewster is a great name for your dog!!
Hahaha thank you!
The BEST pickup line I've ever used was actually an accidental one. A coworker came in with a new hairdo and said it was her poodle dog look. I replied I didn't care what breed it was she looked remarkable. Next thing I knew she asked ME to lunch. I'm in Minnesota and have found my own gems for hiking. Interstate State Park is 20 miles east of me. The Walter Mondale Trail is my fave. Nobody thinks of Minnesota when I say river cliffs but that trail has several! And promoting local trails? Cook County on the North Shore is phenomenal. And I have GAD too. I'm running with your tip about not replying to my socials at 3am. Gotten myself into trouble doing that...
