I've been saying for a while now that scalpers have really destroyed this hobby. Not just the Die-Cast car hobby, but also Action figures, trading cards, and Funco-Pops. When the Pandemic hit and people were either afraid to leave the house or stores weren't staying open or whatever reason, scalpers saw this as an opportunity. But that grew and grew. Soon people saw that they could actually make money on this. Buying entire cases of Hot Wheels at $0.88 cents a car(At that time), and then they could sell the higher end or most wanted castings for 4 to 5 times that even more for some. Plus the Super Treasure Hunts and the Regular Treasure Hunts you could see them for BIG MONEY. Super Treasure Hunts were selling for $40.⁰⁰- $75.⁰⁰ maybe more. Matchbox, ⚡Johnny⚡Lightning⚡, 🌎Auto🌎World🌎, Greenlight, or ANY Die-Cast maker who offered a Chase Piece of Limited Edition model were being being emptied off the shelves. 🕷🕸Spider-Man🕸🕷 figures, X-Men figures were also being bought before they hit the floor. Scalpers here have actual "employees" who go to stores every single day. Plus many of them also have Stockers at Target, Wal-Mart, Game🔹️Stop, and other stores who sell Hot Wheels, Matchbox, and other Die-Cast cars. These stockers hide cases, chase pieces, or highly sought after Action Figures. It's no longer a hobby here, it's a second hand business. People advertise on Craigslist as well as eBay. I've seen fights break out over WHO gets that case on pallet. What used to be a fun hobby has become a ruthless and vicious event.

You aren't a scalper if you buy a couple out of a set. Some people dont have enough money to buy a whole set so they get a couple favorites. I agree with you that the scalpers are terribly annoying. I just started getting into hot wheels cause of my son and recently found out about THs and all that and after a couple months finally found my first one! I can only afford a couple premiums at a time. When i was a kid I collected wrestling figures and never got the whole sets lol I ust got my favorites. And guess what I still have all of my figures cause I love them, never sold one. That's why with hotwheels I buy the ones I like the most, it would be crazy to buy the complete sets lol just to say I completed a set lol. Even if i happen to not like the car but you're just getting it to complete the set really doesn't make much sense to me. Everyone collects differently and if you're a set collecter than I'm happy for you lol I'm not going to tell you to stop!

The moving parts Porsche has now been released in back to back sets in red and also gray/silver. I have both but haven't opened them yet. With over 900 Porsches on display I'm out of room. Need to put up more Carney cases.

They really screwed that Lamborghini. I LOVE that truck. But won't buy due to that mainline lambo they stuck in there.

I go for the 60s , 70s American muscle cars, classic trucks or hot rods … never really looked for treasure hunts on purpose.

They give you a choice. You're supposed to CHOSE 1 of the polar opposite decoration types. You can't possibly fit in to both designs. You have to man up and choose either red or blue. You need to discuss your problems with your doctor. You need to involve him in your buying lunacy frenzy before it's too late for you. You're hurting your own brain if you say you like polar opposites. You should be buying harlequin cars instead. Half half or quarters type cars. NOT FULL POLAR OPPOSITE models. I want to see 50% of your gathering to GO! YOUR NEW JOB IS TO decide on either warm colours or cool colours and take out the opposite of what you decide on and hide those cars for 1 month.

It's no longer a collection. It's turned into frenzy buying and lunacy. How about you show us the cars that you turned down, the toys that you rejected. I think you can't stop yourself from buying. You're compulsive at buying everything in sight. You haven't got any ability to eliminate 1 colour from your buying frenzy. You're squeezing yourself into every colour decoration. You can't possibly look good in all these colour combinations.

The VW is the best, but Matchbox always had a very blocky look to it. I presume this is because mattel owns both and they can’t have any MB cars beating out HW though I could be wrong

Hey Phil, Great presentation. The Team transportation trucks are way too plain. The Impala color would be Lilac. The Grand Cherokee looks bad without rear detail. The Golf is the best one in this video. I look forward to returning to the various Wal-Marts to buy some of these. Somehow I am unlucky with my recent trips . The Wal-Mart at Marché Centrale is a real mess.

Yeah, I believe you're right about the Lamborghini, being the peg warmer. My favorite Team Transport from this series, is the Toyota Corolla. That '66 Impala is one per case, I found one, want to find another one for my uncle, he had a '66 Impala, back in the day.

great video. i love when i hear these stories. i myself try to help collectors out in my area. i once gave this collector three sth that i had already hav. they were just sitting in my stash collecting dust so i rather give it to someone thet will enjoy them like i do. boy did it make his day

For me, 2025 is going to a slow down year. I have collected cars that represent the world of car design of all ages. They are like the hotwheels 2023 land-rover. I will likely pay the price for the set because I what the 4 door version of that SUV. But it will be looking some oddball stuff like the matchbox 2021 Morgan 3 wheeler. For the most part, downsizing what I get looks to be the way to go. But in saying this, if things look interesting, I could break what I say too. Time will tell how it goes.
